Dear Father Dale A. Johnson (Barhanna)

How are you doing? Hope you are doing very well ,thanks to the
Almighty God I am too. Dear Father! first of all I would like to
extend my cordial thanks for your reply.

Second,I have another question. Sorry ,I am troubling you. I am doing
a research on the historical development of Eucharistic Liturgy in
Ethiopia and the meaning of its symbolical rituals. For this ,I have
to study the Oriental Orthodox Churches' Divine Liturgies and their
development. This helps me to understand the relation of Ethiopic
Divine Liturgies with that of Oriental Churches. I tried to browse
various sites to obtain the life history of St .Phioloxenus of
Mabbug .Would you please send it? If you have other useful materials
related with my work. Please ,try to help me. Many thanks for your
kind cooperation.

May God be with all of us.

I lack words to express my gratitude for your kindness. But I am
ignorant of French. If you have ready made document in English, try
to send a paragraph about the life history of St. Phioloxenus of
Mabbug. Other wise, don't worry. I will try look for other sources.
If it is possible ,please! try to help me in answering other
questions which I am going to post in coming days. Once again, I am
grateful that you tried to help me.

Subject: The term 'Jacobite'-- Now a Passion for IOC..!
tjeldose
Send Email Send Email

Dear moderators

There is nothing ever exempted from Criticism in this world. Criticism is always
a success when its intedend with right sense..! Recently the Jacobite Syrian
Church went udner Fire by some of the Bishop Candidates of IOC. A Ramban joked
on this what Roman Catholics of the west on their ignorance twisted in 17's or
18's..!

Anyone who contact with new generation priests in Roman Catholic Church would
say that thier Church is the only true church in the world.! Even during last
Visit of Pope to Australia they had the 'Way of Cross' on World Youth Day..! It
means that they dont know when this has to be commemorated and thier yougsters
were in the Pub onthe previous day drinking beers and when a TV reporter
contacted about this, the young team of girls and boys responded in a funny
manner. For them whether its 'spiritual' or'sports', without 'SPIRIT', there
is no Spirit'!

These ignorance has had in their forefathers who bluntly blammed the Syrians who
followed the true principle of Jacob and with thier ignorance and pride, the RC
called him and his followers as Jacobites! But a true study on this even by the
Theologists in Europe has put back different conclusion and thats what prompted
Pope John Paul to come with an Open Pardoning Ceremony!

When a Ramban from IOC in Kottayam came with some 'Conclusions' it looks like
so.When he criticised the term and been using that name Jacobite)which he firmly
concluded was a teasing or nick name, he open up his ignorance same as those who
without any spirit.!

After a while, off late, an Old man from Thrikkariyoor claims differently
allowing no one else to use that name. When Ramban jokes at this name, the
Thrikkariyoor man claims this name for Patent...!

So is this name 'Jacobite' a passion for them...?!!And to add little more, the
Big Wigs of Kottayam (Who pride themselves as Genius budhists)!) is still no way
to accept the Indian part of Universal Syrian Church as a Church.they call
Putherncruz society..! The IOC is based in India which has to be adhered to
Indian Law, This Church Jacobite church-Indian wing of U.S.O. Church) is also
adhered to Indian Law and been accepted by others in the society.! But IOC
cannot admit that..!

Poor IOC's...! You have to accept this truth...! Your forefathers from
Vattesseril did the wrong thing which you have to repent one day..!when the time
for that comes, HISTORY or TIME will tell the story to new generation.

Hope it has some clear intention to protect our faith.
Prayers and Regards,
Eldose

If God is love, he who has love has God within himself. If love is absent,
nothing is of the least profit to us (1 Cor. 13:3); and unless we love others we
cannot say that we love God. “No man has ever seen God. If we love one another,
God dwells in us, and His love is perfected in us” (1 John 4:12). From this it
is clear that love is the most comprehensive and the highest of all divine
blessings spoken of in the Holy Scriptures. And there is no for of virtue
through which man may become akin to God and united with Him that is not
dependent upon
love and encompassed by it; for love unites and protects the virtues in an
indescribable manner.

Reading: From the Gospel according to St. John 17: 13-26

Dear and Respected Brethren,

In the first sentence of today's reading we hear our Lord's earnest wish and
desire that His joy fulfilled in His children. What is Lord's Joy? He wants all
his creation united to our Father in heaven. When we all could re-establish a
permanent and eternal relationship with God Almighty, we also could enjoy the
joy of our Lord. In verse 14 we read, "I have given them thy word, and the world
has hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the
world". When we come across this verse, we must examine ourselves, whether we
are free from the closeness and friendship of the world and we are living away
from the attractions of the world. Are we not under the bondage of the worldly
attractions and pleasures of our choice? Can we claim that we are not of this
world and we are perfectly like Lord Jesus? St. Paul asks in his first epistle
to Corinthians (I Cori: 1:30) "But of him are you in Jesus Christ, who of God is
made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification and redemption" Again
St. Paul exhorts us in I Thessalonians 4:7, "For God has called us into
uncleanness, but unto holiness". In Hebrews 10:10 we read, "By the which we are
sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all". The
above verses reminds us to keep up the sanctification of our body, mind and
spirit until eternity and to grow spiritually to the perfection by the
acceptance of the body and blood of our savior whenever we could, with true
repentance and holiness.

Our Lord is sure and certain that we need protection from the evil when we are
living in the world. So He intercedes to God the Father for our protection.
While we are engaged in the selfish desires and the evil deeds, we cannot escape
by blaming the evil powers. If we want freedom for ever from the evil powers, we
must long for it and must put an end to the friendship with the evil and selfish
desires. In Galatians 1:4 we find an assurance: "Who gave himself for our sins,
that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of
God and our Father." We should not forget the truth that our Lord is trustworthy
in freeing us from the bondage of evil and hence we are supposed to seek God's
mercy and compassion for the purpose. In 2 Thessalonians 3:3 we read, "But the
Lord is faithful, who shall save you and keep you from evil".

In verse 17 we hear the prayer of our Lord and Savior. "Sanctify them
through thy truth: thy word is truth." Here we are supposed to concentrate on
three significant words, a) Sanctify, b) Truth c) Word. We all know what
sanctification is. When God dwells in us after making our body and mind clean,
it is the real sanctification. For the act of sanctification, God needs our
participation also. Sanctification cannot be achieved by God's mercy and
compassion also, without the co-operation of the faithful. We all are supposed
to wait for God's action with true repentance and eagerness to achieve the
blessing. Our Lord establishes that He is the truth. The words or promises of
our Lord are not imaginary; they are real, genuine and unquestionable. Our Lord
Jesus is the word of God, which has incarnated in St. Mary for the salvation of
the entire universe and entire mankind. We know all these truths or we pretend
that we know all these facts. Let us think how they have influenced our lives.
Can we say that these truths have affected our lives? Do we give any importance
for the truth or the word of God in our practical lives? Let us think again and
again.

In verse 20 we find a prayer of our Lord for all those who might turn to the
Savior of mankind, due to the words of the faithful on the world. Let us think
whether we were able to attract a single person to Lord Jesus, through our word
or deed or even though our perfect Christian life? Are we not supposed to care
and attract the hundreds of innocent around us, who are ignorant of the word of
God, which is the truth?

In verse 22, we listen "And the glory which thou gave me I have given them; that
they may be one even as we are one". Are we not supposed to have mutual respect
and recognition? If one would honor another as the child of God, who lives in
God and remains in the love of God, will there be any sort of tensions, quarrels
or differences of opinions? Being Christians we often forget the truth that we
all are in God and with God. When we would realize the fact, there won't be any
sort of deed or word, which might spoil the peace of all. Our Lord sincerely
longs to have us all together with Him. Kindly read and meditate verse 24. Are
we really interested to be with Him? Mr. X might be happy to be with God, but
might be hating the presence of Mr.
Y. But God wants Mr. X and Mr. Y and Mr. Z together with Him. Let us pray for
the will of God. "Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven". When we recite
the Lord's Prayer every now and then, let us try to realize the full meaning of
the prayer.

May God bless us all
Jose Kurian Puliyeril.

Hats off to Divanasious Thirumeni & SOCMNet.org

The Official web site of Manjinikkara Dayara, is professional design
and informative too. Please keep update the site.

SOCM-Forum, Shroro, Dukhrono, Prayer Cell and now Radio Malankara all are very
mush far-fetched efforts of the moderators of this forum. May the almighty bless
them and their family abundantly!

Our church have too many good web sites available online, unfortunately very few
only is the official site. Even most of the official web sites are not updating
regularly. We must appreciate the efforts of the laymen of the church for
keeping the name of our holy church in this modern communication media. I am
sure the Holy Synod acknowledges the efforts of these laymen and thus reflected
in honoring the chief moderator of this forum by decorating him with the
chevalier title for his and his team's praiseworthy efforts.

I think this is the high time Holy Synod must think about assigning a
metropolitan fully for the electronic media communications based in the H.Q.
Under the leadership of this metropolitan, church should bring all the laymen
who spend their time and money to one umbrella
and run an effective and authentic presence in this modern communication media.
This will help a lot to the present generation and coming generations.

We have many seminarians, why can't train few of them for this purpose. Give
them proper training in the English/Syriac/Malayalam languages and in the
internet activates. Conducting liturgical service alone is not the ministry
which they area called. In RC church there is 20th century saint who known as
Saint and Prophet of mass communication.

There is a saying in Malayalam, "Othupidichal Malaum Porum". Tap the
available resource and utilize it properly, this should be the vision
of the Church in this area.

Dear all,

In this edition (Aug 1/08) of viswasasamrakshakan, in the series answering
doubts relating to faith and tradition of the church, one of the question is in
relation to the usage of salutation Mor by the Metropolitans themselves, with
their names. Being one of the forum members who shared my thoughts on this
subject earlier in this forum I wish to share my mind after reading the reply in
viswasasamrakshakan, on this subject and on initiating these types of
discussions to clear doubts on matters relating to church, traditions and faith.

Earlier when I raised this issue in SOCM forum
(http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SOCM-FORUM/message/12151) there were two relevant
postings from Mr. Abraham Kurian and Dr. George K John. Though I was not in
complete agreement to ideas put forward in both the messages and could I have
tried to answer those postings pointing to some other letters, usage etc. within
our own church, I preferred to withdraw from that topic because it seemed none
of the forum members have a clear idea on the topic and none of the leaders of
the church seemed interested in clearing the position.

Now I don¢t want to comment any thing about the reply given in
viswasasamrakshakan but only thing I wish to submit with every due respect is
that I don¢t understand anything regarding the usage of Mor from that reply,
whether it is proper to use it by oneself with his own name or not proper to use
it but the only feel I got is don¢t raise a doubt on any of the practices either
in the church or of the leaders. When I wished to clear my doubt on it earlier,
my intention was not to question the practices in the church or of the leaders
but to have a clear idea on the usage/topic. But I am really sad that even after
a reply by one of the learned leaders of the church the topic remain unclear.
And even sadder that I couldn¢t understand what is meant by the last sentence of
that reply in viswasasamrakshakan.

I request every one related to the discussion to forgive me if any of my words
hurt anyone, which was nowhere there in my intention.

Regards,

Alex Thomas

"One of the Fathers related that there was an anchorite in the desert of
Nicopolis whom a devout layman used to serve. There was also in the city a rich
and godless man. Now it came to pass that the latter died and the whole city
made a procession for him, including the bishop, with lights and incense. The
anchorite's servant, according to his custom, went to take bread to the
anchorite, and he found he had been eaten by a hyena. He fell face downwards on
the ground, saying, 'Lord, I shall not rise till you explained the meaning of
all this to me. That godless man received great pomp, and the monk who served
you night and day has died like this.' Then an angel of the Lord came to say to
him, 'That godless man did a little good, and he has found his reward here below
so as not to receive any remission above; but this anchorite, although he was
adorned with all the virtues, yet had some faults as a man. He has paid for them
here below so as to be found pure before God.' Satisfied, the servant went away,
giving glory to God for his judgments, for they are true."

Dear All,

Few of our members were commenting on this subject. I think it is an
unwanted discussion few among us drag this forum. We are not believing in any of
the IOC propagated dogmas. Then why we should worry about their internal
matters. It's their problem, let them consecrate hundreds into bishoprics, let
their Catholicos assume any titles. Did it make any difference to our FAITH
matters. We are not IOC, we are different. One after another their tall claims
are proving unworthy in the eyes of Christian world. Some of them preach
universal love, beautiful sermons, but immediately after that their sermon will
be how to prevent some other faithful from practicing their faith matters, open
revolt against the Head of the Church. All these are now boomeranged, and the
basic question of obeying the higher authorities are now slowly vanishing from
them.

My earnest prayer to our members is not to be like the IOCians. They say
something, and do something. Our Lord taught us to see even the soil in our feet
should be left with, before we proceed further, if we do not find an acceptance
in a house, town or nation. Let us not venture with IOC principles.

With prayers,
CJ Varughese

All faithful of Jacobite Syrian Church should appreciate Services of SOCM forum
and its moderators.

Make this pilgrim centre like the one Parumala Mor Gregorious centre built by
Indian Orthodox Church. Look at the new Church and pilgrim centre buildings etc.
constructed by IOC in Parumala. Why can't we Jacobite Syrian Christians make
contributions to construct buildings/facilities in Manjnikkara?

Matrimonial Advertisements NOTIFICATION: The SOCM-Forum is keeping a
free matrimonial advertisement section, which will be published on
every Tuesdays.

This service can be availed by any Malankara Christians. However,
recently we have noticed that many esteemed members, after sending
the matrimonial advertisements to us, are not informing us whether
the ad is to be continued for longer periods or not. Some times we
face embarrassing situations when the advertised party got married
and still the marriage ads in the forum are repeated.Hence, as on 17
April 2007, we have decided to keep any matrimonial advertisements
initially for a period of ONE YEAR only. If any advertisers
would like to extent this period after its initial period, they have
to send us a written request to extent the period. In such cases, we
will continue the publication of the advertisement for a further
period of one or two months, as per their request. However, we will
not be continuing the ads thereafter.

We request every advertisers of today's matrimonial section, to
cooperate with us in informing whether the marriage is over or you
want to continue the ad for another period. We will only continue
with the advertisements of such confirmed advertisers.

Hope everybody will understand and cooperate with us.

Be with us and be part of us.

“If you fall, rise, and you shall be saved.” You are a sinner, you continually
fall, learn also how to rise; be careful to acquire this wisdom. This is what
heaven consists of: learning and praying the Psalm (50) “Have mercy upon me O
God, after Thy great goodness …” inspired by the Holy Spirit to the king and
prophet David, and say it with sincere faith and trust, with a contrite and
humble heart … the most important thing in life is to be zealous for mutual
love, and not to judge anyone. Everybody shall answer for himself to God, and
you must look inward to yourself.

Dear readers ,

I remember reading somewhere that the no of emissaries were 70. But you get the
no as 72 by adding the gospelists Mor Lukose and Mor Markose to it . As you can
see they were not Apostles. They might have been given the ranking of
emissaries. For further information I have heard that Mor Addai , the twin
brother of Mor Thoma sleeho , was the head of the emissaries .Mor Addai is often
referred to as sleeho. I would request the learned members of this forum to
clear this doubt.
