Devotional thoughts for Sunday of St. Mary's trip to Elizabeth 02 -12- 07

Reading: From the Gospel according to St. Luke 1: 39-56

Dear and Respected Brethren,

When St. Mary went in haste to the residence of Priest Zechariah and Elizabeth
and saluted Elizabeth, the baby in the womb of Elizabeth leaped in joy and
Elizabeth got filled with the Holy Spirit. This is what is told in the beginning
verses of today's reading, especially in verses 39 to 41. These verses are quite
significant as they could vouch for the teaching of the Orthodox faith since
those days. The leaping of St. John the Baptist from the womb of his mother is
very clear and strong evidence that infants could realize Lord Jesus, Holy
Spirit as well as saints especially St. Mary, Mother of God. St. John the
Baptist leaped while being in his mother's womb because at the very moment he
recognized Lord Jesus, the savior of the entire mankind and the universe, His
blessed mother and the Holy Spirit, which dwelled in his mother. Elizabeth got
the fullness of Holy Spirit only because of the presence of St. Mary there,
carrying the Savior of the mankind in her womb. It is clear that St. Mary could
not only uphold intercessions for us, but also through her presence she could
speed up the indwelling of the Holy Spirit even. If it is so, what is wrong
in seeking her continued intercessions? We must make sure that we are making
use of her intercessions for the growth of our spirituality, other than
utilizing the same for our worldly riches and gains.

In words 42-45 we read about the words of appreciations of Elizabeth about St.
Mary. In verse 43 Elizabeth asks "From where is this to me that the mother of
the Lord should come to me". Elizabeth got the unique blessing to address our
Savior as the Lord for the first time, especially much prior to His blessed
incarnation. It is a God given opportunity and blessing. Beyond that she
doubtlessly addressed St. Mary as the Mother of God for the first time. That was
also many days prior to the incarnation of Lord Jesus. It is a blessing to
realize our Lord as Lord and God. Elizabeth got these rare blessings as she
got the full and abundant supply of the Holy Spirit. We all have received the
Holy Spirit in our lives through the baptism as well as the Holy Chrism. And
still are we in a position to recognize our Lord and Savior, though we get a
number of blessings every second? We must seriously think about the occasions
missed by us. We have to try earnestly to identify and to recognize our Lord
God, as and when we face Him. In verse 45 we read her saying that blessed is she
that believed. How is our belief? Could we believe in God as our Saints and
others believed in Him? Let us make sure that we could also believe in God as
our forefathers and Saints believed in God.

We could witness St. Mary's staunch and strong faith in the following lines from
verses 46-55. This small portion of the Holy Scripture is known as the hymn of
St. Mary, the blessed Mother of God. She starts the song "my soul does magnify
the Lord. And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior". In 1 Samuel 2: 1 we
could find a similar song of praise from Hannah. We are often reminded by the
Holy Church to rejoice in God. But are we able to rejoice? Where lies the
hindrance? We often try to rejoice in the human way of rejoicing. We are either
ignorant about the spiritual rejoicing or we do not take it seriously. What ever
be the reason, let us make a decision to rejoice in our spirit. Let us realize
our Lord God and rejoice in him in our spirit. We are supposed to worship God in
Spirit and Truth.

In verse 48 St. Mary says He has regarded the low estate of his handmaiden, for
behold, from hereafter all generations shall call me blessed. In fact St. Mary
was repeating the words of the Angel, who annunciated her. Let us think what
would have been our response, if we were in the place of St. Mary. Definitely we
would have argued about our own greatness to get the blessing. Let us learn how
to be humble and moderate. Let us not forget how to respond to God's mercies and
blessings. Kindly read the verse 51 and meditate on the strong right hand of
Lord God. Kindly read Psalms 98:1, 118:15 and Isaiah 40: 10 and enjoy the happy
victory of His right strong hand.

Let us seek the continued intercession of St. Mary, Mother of God wisely and
aptly. Let us also believe that our Lord God will be merciful to us also as He
had been to our forefathers like Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Let the intercession
of Priest Zechariah and Elizabeth be also a fort of protection and blessing for
us.

May God bless us all.

Last day one of my close Suroyo friend from Germany and told that ex Suroyo
Dayroyo Mossa who was here with the other two monks, is now acting there as
bishop. He is saying that his name is Mar Severios Moosha and he was ordained by
the excommunicated Malankara bishop. Also my friend promised me to send the
photograph of the ordination in few days.

I think the two bishops who temptated them ordained him as a bishop.

Dear in Christ,

As we were going through lot of unity calls in our forum and the forum of the
dissident faction (IOC) I would love to narrate the experiences in St. John's
Jacobite Church Vadakara, which is my home parish. As many of you are aware,
this parish has more than 1300 families and more than 90 percent of which
belongs to Jacobite Syrian Church. Three years before, the Honorable High Cort
of Kerala approved the Election of the Church in which all the Jacobite
Candidates won over Indian Orthodox Candidadates with a large majourity.
However, they are now trying to create problems in the church. They Indian
Orthodox faction, with the help of "turn aside" priest and Vicar claims that
they conducted "Pothuyogam" and try to create problems in the Church. The Sunday
before last at Koothattukulam Chappel the above said priest told to the
parishioners while being at the Church " I am happy to be with you. But if I
come back to you they (the Methran Kakshi People) will kill me".

I know this may be little bit improper to put this message here. But I am
putting it here just to remind my brothers that this is the attitude of the so
called dissident faction who lelf the Universal Syrian Orthodox church in 1970's
by claiming the uncanonical throne of St. Thomas. I just want to highlight the
cheep tactics of Indian Orthodox people in pressurising their own clergy.

I pray and wish that may almighty God help them to understand their fautlst and
encourage them to return to the Universal Syrian Orthodox Church.

I have a friend who is Indian Orthodox, I wont name him, who attend
Holy Qurbana at an Indian Orthodox Church and also made a pilgrimage
to Sabrimala. Does this prove that Indian Orthodox Church is in
communion with the Hindu Religion ?

Your argument that SOC is in full communion with the RC based on the
actions of one of the members of SOC, sounds just as ridiculous as
the above argument.

Dear Mr. Abraham Paul,

Many thanks for your response. If my knowledge serves me right, formerly we
(both jacobite and orthodox) recited only the main or official name of
designation of our living spiritual fathers in the first Thubden. Of the three
patriarchs remembered, the first is the patriarch of Anioch Moran Mar
Ignatius, the second is the Catholicose of the East Moran Mar Baselios , the
third is Gregorios of Jerusalem, though only Bishop, he is designated as
patriarch on a special privilege. It is only in the recent edition of the
Jacobites that the full name of patriarch of antioch has been given.
We(Orthodox) have not made any addition or deletion to the liturgy so far. We
have no delicacy in adding the full name of the patriach of antioch in our 1st
thubden provided his designation has the approval of the holy synod and
Malankara Association.

The unofficial skipping of the names of the departed holy fathers in the
5th Diptychs in some places may be to save time from our lengthy liturgy and
to avoid disgrace to the remebered forefathers. I have attended the holy qurbana
said in many jacobite churches, there I have seen most of the acolytes recite
the names of the holy fathers mere mechanically and without any sense of
concentration or devotion. Anything done devoid of spirit and in a mechanical
manner does not mean anything. The liturgy performed mechanically becomes a
perfunctory act. So it is always better to have a meaningful diptichs than a
farce diptychs.

Be assured of my prayers for you.

With love,
Yours in Christ,
Fr.T.George,Ireland.

Dear Mr. Mathew,

Sorry, it was by oversight, I mentioned the spiritual founder forefathers of
"Christian Church" who are named for remembering in the 5th Diptych as "Syriac
forefathers".

Thanks for correcting me.

The point I wished to bring out was, if any Christian sect who does not wish to
follow the "Creed", "Diptychs" and other such liturgy in worship in the Syrian
Orthodox Holy Qurbana being followed in Malankara for ages as it is, they should
just discard those and use whatever they like.

Just leave alone, the believers of original Orthodoxy Faith Order,
without finding fault pointing out some individual or inclusion of some
regional practices which were always considered as in order in such
situations right from the Old Testament days.

2- Kidnapped priest freed

Diyarbarkar, Turkey: A Syriac Christian priest kidnapped this week in southeast
Turkey was released yesterday, a provincial official said. "The priest was
released in good condition..." batman province Deputy Governor Aziz Mercan said.
Television images showed the bearded priest wiping tears from his eyes and
embracing security personnel. "Given the information obtained from the priest,
we now know who the perpetrators are, and security forces are tracking them
down," said Mercan, who would not give the names of the suspects. Unknown
assailants ambushed Daniel Savci's car on Wednesday as the 55 year old priest
was travelling to the Mor Yakub monastery near the town of Midyat. The
kidnappers were reported to have sought a ransom of 300,000 euros.

1- Turkish Christian priest abducted

A priest from Turkey's Syriac Christian community has been kidnapped
in the country's south-east, officials say.

Edip Daniel Savci's car was reportedly found abandoned near Midyat
town in Mardin province on Wednesday.

A local clergyman had received a phone call demanding a ransom for
his release, the Anatolia news agency said.

Attacks on Turkey's Christian minority have increased recently. A
Catholic priest was shot dead last year and three Protestants were
killed in April.

Five men accused of the attack on the Protestant missionaries went
on trial in the town of Malatya last week.

Turkish police are working to secure the release of the missing
priest, security officials said.

Turkey's Syriac Christian community numbers an estimated 25,000
people and is based mainly in Mardin, in the largely Kurdish south-
east, and in Istanbul.

Syriac Christians are one of the faith's oldest denominations and
are found in modern Iraq, Syria and Lebanon.

The Indian Orthodox Church has an official website now.

The following is what it says about Baselious Eldho Maphriana
(Kothamangalam Bava)

"After his (Mar Gregorious Abdul Jaleel of Jerusalem) time those two
West Syrian dignitaries who came in 1685 intended to achieve the
Patriarchal destination. But unfortunately they achieved nothing,
because of the death of one soon after their arrival."

http://tinyurl.com/2jla9o

The following is what it says about Parumala Thirumeni.

"He (Patriarch Ignatious Peter IV) consecrated 6 bishops (one of whom
is Parumala Thirumeni) of his own accord himself without the consent of
the church or of Dionysius V, taking from each of them registered deed,
to ensure and strengthen but also over their dioceses. Indeed it was
these new bishops formally and systematically not only West Syrianized
their dioceses but also stabilized the jurisdictional claims of the
Patriarch thereafter."

http://tinyurl.com/2omv7v

Though the history given on this site is so full of hate to the Syriac
Orthodox Church and the Patriarch, the 'Gallery' section is a very
useful resourse.

It has many hymns from the Divine Liturgy, Holy Week and other
important church occassions.

http://tinyurl.com/2nudnq

The really good thing is that it is recorded without the distractions
of the drums, and the big orchestra. I wish our church also completely
stopped the use of these musical instuments during the Liturgy. The
drum beats completely disfugres the hymns. I have addressed this in two
of my previous messages to this forum with no reply or interest from
any of the members. I am posting them again, in the hope that there
will be someone who will show some interest.

IOC heirarchy should come bold to say whether they approved these ordination by

going to take any action against these opportunist metrans, who are defiant in

Where was the 1934 constitution when Moshe was made bishop of a church which
no one can name at this point of time. We all know that Methran kakshi people
are those who always claim that nothing in this world is above their 1934
constitution and everyone born in the past, present and future are bound to

when two bishops of that group made a person a bishop (?), that too without the

It is once again proved that the so called IOC ( Devalokam Church )

Shlomo to all,

In one of the previous mails someone had highlighted that when these
people left via Cochin Airport, one of them was seen in the red
robes. Now the secret is revealed. From the background it seems that
the photograph is taken inside St.Thomas Aramana Chapel at
Muvattupuzha.

I wonder whether there is a provision in 1934 constitution wherein two bishops
can ordain a new bishop. I think minimum three are required. There are all
chances that these people just have posed for the photographs to be carried by
suryoyo person as an evidence that he is a bishop now. For the truth to come out
we should wait for a video.

Let us wait and see what actions will be taken by the mighty Devalokam leaders
who claims that nothing will be done against the 1934 bible in their Church.
They are now cleverly fooled by these name-sake Bishops.

I really feel pity on these two 'Arunodayashukrans' which are fallen down.

Church's Roots Aren't European, Says Pope

Comments on Syriac Poet-Theologian

VATICAN CITY, NOV. 28, 2007 (Zenit.org).- Christianity didn't
originate in Europe, but rather has its roots in the Middle Eastern
world of the Old Testament, says Benedict XVI.

The Pope said this today during the general audience in Paul VI
Hall, which he dedicated to the figure of St. Ephrem the Syrian, a
fourth-century theologian, poet and musician.

He said the reflection continued along the lines of his commentary
last week on the fourth-century Syriac Christian Aphraates, which
also showed the cultural diversity of the early Christians.

"According to general opinion," said the Pontiff, "Christianity is a
European religion that has exported the culture of this Continent to
other countries. The reality, though, is a lot more complex, as the
root of the Christian religion is found in the Old Testament, and
therefore in Jerusalem and the Semitic world."

The Holy Father continued: "Its expansion during the first centuries
was both westward -- toward the Greek-Latin world, where it then
inspired the European culture -- and eastward to Persia and India,
thus contributing to stimulate a specific culture, in Semitic
languages, with its own identity."

St. Ephrem, said Benedict XIV, "was the most important
representative of Syriac Christianity, and succeeded in a unique way
to reconcile the vocation of the theologian with that of the poet."

A deacon

Ephram was born in 306 in Nisibis, in what is modern-day Turkey, and
died of the plague in 373 in Edessa, in what is modern-day Greece.
The Pope said that while not much is known of his life, it is
commonly held that he was a deacon and lived a life of celibacy and
poverty.

The Holy Father said the deacon, "a rich and captivating author,"
also "left us a large written theological inheritance."

"The specific character of his work is that theology meets poetry,"
continued the Pontiff. "If we want to get closer to his doctrine, we
need to acknowledge that he studied theology through poetry.

"Poetry allowed him to deepen his theological reflections through
paradoxes and images. His theology became both liturgy and music at
the same time: He was indeed a great composer and musician."

Benedict XVI quoted several of Ephrem's hymns, as examples of the
saint's "poetic theology."

In his hymn "On Christ's Nativity," Ephrem reflected on the figure
of the Virgin Mary: "The Lord came to her to make himself a servant.
The Word came to her to keep silence in her womb. The lightning came
to her to not make any noise."

Pearl of faith

In another hymn, "On the Pearl," St. Ephrem talks of faith: "My
brothers, I put (the pearl) in the palm of my hand, to be able to
look at it closely.

"I observed it from one side and then the other: It had only one
appearance from all sides.

"(Such) is the search for the Son, inscrutable, for he is luminous."

Commenting on the hymns of the fourth-century poet-theologian,
Benedict XVI said, "His theological reflection is expressed with
images and symbols taken from nature, from daily life and from the
Bible."

The Pope also noted the deacon's writings on women: "To Ephrem the
role of the woman is a relevant one. The way he wrote about women
was always prompted by sensibility and respect: The fact that Jesus
dwelt in the womb of Mary has enormously raised the woman's dignity.

"For Ephrem there is no redemption without Jesus, just as there
could be no incarnation without Mary."

Matrimonial Advertisements NOTIFICATION

The SOCM-Forum is keeping a free matrimonial advertisement section,
which will be published on every Tuesdays. This service can be
availed by any Malankara Christians. However, recently we have
noticed that many esteemed members, after sending the matrimonial
advertisements to us, are not informing us whether the ad is to be
continued for longer periods or not. Some times we face embarrasing
situations when the advertised party got married and still the
marriage ads in the forum are repeated.

Hence, as on 17 April 2007, we have decided to keep any matrimonial
advertisements initially for a period of THREE MONTHS only. If any
advertisers would like to extent this period after its initial
period, they have to send us a written request to extent the period.
In such cases, we will continue the publication of the advertisement
for a further peiod of one or two months, as per their request.
However, we will not be continuing the ads thereafter.

We request every advertisers of today's matrimonial section, to
cooperate with us in informing whether the marriage is over or you
want to continue the ad for another period. We will only continue
with the advertisements of such confirmed advertisers.

Hope everybody will understand and cooperate with us.

Be with us and be part of us.

In Our Lord's Love,

"It is for a good purpose that the demons are allowed to dwell within the body
even of those who are struggling vigorously against sin; for in this way man's
free will is constantly put to the test. If a man, while still alive, can
undergo death through his labours, then in his entirety he becomes the
dwelling-place of the Holy Spirit; for such a man, before he has died, has
already risen from the dead, as was the case with the blessed Apostle Paul and
all those who have struggled and are struggling to the utmost against sin."

Shlomo to All,

Now the MSOC can be rechristened as 'Universal Indian Othodox Church'having non
Indians in its clergy, Synod and believers. The history may undergo a change. I
think they also have a priest in America of that origin.

With this incident, the hypocrasy (or rather hysteria) of Muvattupuzha Athanasius
and Thrissur Militheos are exposed and the group of people and clergy (except
who need only money) who are with them will realise these wolves in Lamb's coat.
Militheos is trying to malign H.H the patriarch by creating problems in places
under H.H's jurisdiction. He have forgotten who has laid the hands on his head
and extended all the facilities for his years long stay in the Holy lands. This
is the best complement which can be given by a son to his father!!!!. The sons
of Malankara shall never forget this.

This bishop ordination fell short of anticipation because most of us
were expecting a show which included a patriarch ordination.
Melithios must have also felt the same because he also expected
nothing less than a patriarch.

Word on the street is that these two did the ordination defying the higher-ups
in IOC. Those rambans were in contact with Milithios for a long time and are no
strangers to Devalogam. Milithios tightened his relationship with the suryoyo
community when he caught Fr. Joseph Tarzi.

A Ramban in IOC is also pulling some strings. His relative in America, is
currently the cradle rocker for Fr. Tarzi. This ramban who claims to be a
member of Cheria Palli and his well wishers are helping Athanasios create issues
in and around kothamangalam area. A kothamangalam diocese mentioned by the IOC
is not a slip of the tongue I believe. The crossover methrans are trying to
create a Syrian Orthodox Church in India within the Indian Orthodox Church which
is in imaginary terms part of the Syrian Orthodox Church of Antioch. This way
they are trying to catch innocent laymen and make their survival within IOC
stronger.

The mainstream methran kashi in full throttle are in the process of making MOSC
into Indian Orthodox and does not want anything to do with the Patriarch or the
SOC. There is also this subculture within the methran kashi of individuals who
consider themselves "were once pathrekese". The methran kashi think tanks used
these people as armies to wipe us out. But now they are becoming the biggest
headache for methran kashi. Which reminds me that anything and everthing that
the methran kashi used to strike at the Jacobites only came back at them like a
boomerang.

There are also talks within the Athanasios camp that he wants to get out of the
IOC. Only time will tell what these three methrans are up to next. When looked
back years from now, any one with common sense will label these three methrans
as the biggest blunder for not having peaceful coexistence between the two
churches. This "peace mission" project undertaken by these methrans was just a
miserable failure. The scars left by their "peace mission" will still be
visible on the Jacobites for years to come.

Three monks leave her church - a schism?

The last two weeks were not light for the Syrian-orthodox church of Antiochien
in India. Three monks (Mushe Grgn, Stefanos (Stalin) Budak and Isa Irgur)
travelled from Germany to Kerala to become bishops for the autokephale
Syrian-orthodox church in India. Why do three young monks of her church turn the
back and do form new Kirche "? Monk Mushe Grgn is keen for some years
on the office of the bishop. Monk Isa and Stefanos are a fellow traveller of his
diabolical plan! Three weeks ago these three monks travelled to Kerala and
stayed with the bishops Athanasius and Melitios. The just embarrassing bishops
have likewise turned in the 90s of the Syrian-orthodox church of Antiochien the
back. In India come these her concerns did the agenda of the abgespaltenen
Syrian-orthodox church in India. After long debates and discussions, the synod
decided uniformly that these monks cannot be consecrated for following reasons
bishops: they do not belong to the Syrian-orthodox church in India; all three
monks are only 25, 26 and 27 years old; everything three have no concluded
theology study, only German professional school-leaving exam; further they aim
only at power; if they have already become disloyal of her mother's church, they
could be also disloyal now again and become unreliable.

Now the question, dear readers and female readers positions itself at this
point, how could this come so far? Monk Mushe Grgun and monk Isa were
consecrated in 2001 by the passed away metropolitan Mor Julius Yesu ' Cicek to
monks and afterwards to priests. Monk Stefanos (Stalin) Budak was consecrated by
the metropolitan Cicek in 2002 to the deacon and afterwards to the monk. All
three monks lived cloister in Holland in the Saint Ephrem. Nevertheless, after a
short time they started to prepare for the cloister brothers and, above all, the
bishop problems. One tore out the phone arrangement. Other the nose broke to a
monk's brother. Further they insulted the metropolitan and wanted to hit him
even, completely apart from the threats. Once thus monk Stefanos said in present
of a priest following to his spiritual father (bishop Cicek): Ich scrapes out
to you the eyes. Vantage point only how you will end. " He said this to bishop
Cicek who loved his monks and supports. With the funeral ceremony, however, he
played before the patriarch and all people the innocent and well-behaved monk!
Monk Isa and Mushe said to the bishop: Wir will throw you from the cloister,
we would like to become bishops here ... " all sorts of examples there to call
is...

After everything had to leave three by the police, on account of her terror the
cloister, these about 9 months stayed in the houses of her parents. Archbishop
Benjamin Atas from Sweden took up them mercifully and gave them any freedom.
After a certain time they wanted more, i.e. they wanted to become bishops, above
all, monk Mushe Grgun who plays the saint today before each. Monk Mushe and
Isa left Sweden and her merciful bishop because he could not consecrate them
bishops. They went in Switzerland. There they stayed in a cloister community of
the holy Catholic church in Einsiedeln. Also monk Stefanos moved to Einsiedeln,
because he could live in Europe in no cloister, because it had to dance a lot
after his whistle. At the conference of the last synod it was decided that all
three monks must return in a cloister, this did not fit them, decided to leave
this her mother's church and travelled in the South-Indian Kerala. There how on
top was described none of you to the bishop consecrated. Supposedly monk Mushe
should have been consecrated in an adjoining room by two dropped bishops
Militios and Athansaios. After the canon law of the Syrian-orthodox church of
Antiochien, more exactly after the canon law of all orthodox churches and also
the Roman Catholic church such an inauguration is trifling and is already
allowed not at all. On 29.11.2007 all bishops, priests and organisations of our
people received a letter from a metropolitan called Mushe Grgn, thus from
the letter contents obviously there arises the Syrian-orthodox church of
Antiochien would like to split and train a schism. Please you do not take
seriously dear readers and female readers, this letter of this pseudo bishop,
because the holy synod has written a letter in Kerala, and disproves this
inauguration.

Unauthorized consecration of German as Metropolitan kicks up controversy

Kottayam, Dec 4: Two bishops of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church have
stirred up a hornet's nest through the unauthorized consecration of a Christian
German monk as Metropolitan at an undisclosed place in the state last week.

The monk was ordained as Severios Mosa Gurgan, who has assumed charge at the
newly created Orthodox Archdiocese of Europe. The assumption of the foreign
bishop in an ecclesiastical high ground was at the end of a long standing tiff
with the Holy See of Antioch in Damascus.

The event has gained slow but steady attention in the annals of the Church,
especially since the installation was reportedly conducted after keeping a
majority of those in the Church hierarchy as well as almost all the faithful in
the dark. It is said that the two native bishops, who are migrants from the
Jacobite fold to the Orthodox side, took the initiative to settle scores with
their earlier band. Though the idea of laying hands upon the German monk by
Orthodox bishops came up for discussion at the Synod meet held in August, no
final decision was taken then.

Interestingly, the local bishops had also given the go-ahead to the Canon Law
that a minimum of three bishops should be present for the installation of a
bishop. Further, Catholicos Baselios Didymos, the church supreme, and Catholicos
designate Paulose Mar Milithios, was very much present there, but did not attend
the consecration ceremony. It is common practice to the Orthodox Church, like
all other denominations, that the Church supreme and the next one in the
hierarchy leads the installation ceremony of a bishop. None was aware of the
details of the event, a top functionary of the Church told Express.

drunkenness, miserliness, boastfulness, self-praise, vanity, pride,
scornfulness, and denigration of the poor, forgetfulness of God and so on ad
infinitum, are evil. Few are there who have the strength to resist the
temptation of riches and to be in control of their wealth, not becoming its
servants and slaves."
