Dear members,

There rises the 'crucified truth on the third day'!!!!!!!!(Not as
claimed by late IOC Catholicos, after SC verdict!!).

As Mr. Issac Joseph predicted in his above titled message, IOC his-storians
'developed' new theories and concluded that the London based Doctor's claim on
'Dukhathinte Panapathram' was true and the song was written by his relative late
Ramban!!!! However, within a month this 'claim' becomes the real 'Dukhathinte
Panapathram' for those his-story creators!!!!! The great grandson of 'Sadhu
Kochukunju Upadeshi' itself came forward with the proof,
(http://www.icon.org.in/misc/DukhathintePanapathram.jsp) to contradict the
'false claims' and 'new his-stories' of IOCeans.

However, I would like to congratulate the bangalore based his-storean of IOC to
publicly acknowledge his mistake in 'creating new his-story'. But, the original
claimant is still at large!!!! May be cooking up another storey for self
fame!!!!!! Let us wait and see.

Regards

Varkey Titus

Angels of Light: Ethiopian Art from the Walters Art Museum
March 23 - May 20, 2007

Acquired largely since 1993, the collection of Ethiopian icons,
manuscripts, and bronze processional crosses of the Walters Art
Museum in Baltimore is today one of the largest and finest
collections outside of Ethiopia itself. Historically, Ethiopia was a
Christian kingdom with strong ties in both trade and religion to the
cultures located around the Mediterranean. By the fifteenth century,
this African nation had developed a tradition of icon-painting that
rivaled the Orthodox empires of Byzantium and Russia, as well as the
famed panel paintings of Renaissance Italy. That Ethiopian artists
were aware of these other traditions is made apparent in their
choice of religious subjects, such as Saint George on horseback or
Mary with the Christ Child, which were adapted from Byzantine or
Italian models. Nevertheless, a survey of Ethiopian art-from crosses
to icons to manuscripts-makes it clear that, over time, Ethiopian
artists transformed their models and infused their works with a
unique sense of form and color.

Angels of Light: Ethiopian Art from the Walters Art Museum features
approximately 40 highlights (icons, manuscripts, bronze processional
crosses, etc.) from the Walters' permanent collection, including
recent acquisitions. A comprehensive publication, Ethiopian Art
(2001), featuring scholarly essays by Kelly M. Holbert, Assistant
Curator for Medieval Art, Walters Art Museum, Getatchew Haile, Hill
Monastic Manuscript Library, St. John's University, and Jacques
Mercier, CNRS, Ethnology and Comparative Sociology Laboratory,
University of Paris-X, serves as a companion volume to the
exhibition.

Matrimonial Advertisements NOTIFICATION

Dear Members/Readers,

The SOCM-Forum is keeping a free matrimonial advertisement section,
which will be published on every Tuesdays. This service can be
availed by any Malankara Christians. However, recently we have
noticed that many esteemed members, after sending the matrimonial
advertisements to us, are not informing us whether the ad is to be
continued for longer periods or not. Some times we face embarrasing
situations when the advertised party got married and still the
marriage ads in the forum are repeated.

Hence, as on 17 April 2007, we have decided to keep any matrimonial
advertisements initially for a period of THREE MONTHS only. If any
advertisers would like to extent this period after its initial
period, they have to send us a written request to extent the period.
In such cases, we will continue the publication of the advertisement
for a further peiod of one or two months, as per their request.
However, we will not be continuing the ads thereafter.

We request every advertisers of today's matrimonial section (No.
68/07), to cooperate with us in informing whether the marriage is
over or you want to continue the ad for another period. We will only
continue with the advertisements of such confirmed advertisers.

Hope everybody will understand and cooperate with us.

Be with us and be part of us.

In Our Lord's Love,
SOCM Forum Moderators.

between them. The unholy are like the everlasting, but they are not everlasting,
because they cannot receive eternity from one who is not eternal. And so, he

The British Library has a vast collection of ancient sacred texts
acquired during the heydays of the Empire. The Library is currently
exhibiting a selection of early Jewish, Christian and Islamic holy
books until Sep 23, 2007 in London. I had the opportunity to visit
the Pearson Gallery recently and would recommend this to anyone who
has an opportunity to be in London and interested in seeing the
treasures of the Syriac Christian tradition on display.

Several manuscripts in Syriac are prominently displayed. The catalog
of the main displays are at
http://www.bl.uk/onlinegallery/sacredtexts/sacredthemesall.html

The prominent Syriac manuscripts are listed below:

Section 5: Establishing the Sacred Texts (showing the earliest texts)

1. Syriac Peshitta Bible dated 463-4 scribed by a bishop John in Amid (now
Diyarbakr, Turkey) with the first 5 books of the Bible
(http://www.bl.uk/onlinegallery/sacredtexts/syriacbib.html; Note: The web page
section "What does the picture show?" wrongly notes that the image of Holy Women
visiting the tomb of our Lord illustrates the text of St. Matthew 28:5-6.
However, the text above the image is from Luke 24:12 in Peshitta, as noted by
Dr. David Taylor of Oxford in Hugoye-List.)
2. Commentary of St. Ephrem on the Diatessaron (Gospel Harmony) of
Tatian (c. 490-510)

The other exhibits in this section include a fragment of the Dead Sea Scrolls,
the Codex Sinaiticus (c. 350), an early codex of the Hebrew Torah (c. 9th
cent.), and one of the earliest Qur`an's from the Arabian Hijaz (8th cent). It
is noteworthy that of 7 documents
highlighted in their brochure in this section, 2 are Syriac. The
importance of Syriac is highlighted noting that Syriac was the first
language into which the New Testament was translated.

Section 6: Illuminating the World
1. A profusely illustrated Syriac Gospel lectionary produced in N.
Iraq in c. 1190-1240
(http://www.bl.uk/onlinegallery/sacredtexts/syriaclect.html)

Other mss with Syriac include the canons of the early Synods, the
Walton Polyglot (London, 1657) which has the Bible in Syriac text
along with Greek, Latin, etc. A bronze censer (7th cent.) from the
Syriac tradition is displayed depicting in its art work the
ordination of a priest.

The British Library is close to King's Cross in London and can be
easily accessed by the London tube. The exhibition has free admission.

Dear All,

Praise the LORD.

In recent times, there was an interesting discussion in one of the IOC forums
about the authorship of a famous christian song "Dukhathinte Paanapatram". The
discussion started by one of its famous contributors, one doctor based at
London. He even claimed that he heard and seen one of the late Ramban of IOC
only wrote this. (This doctor think that he can influence the masses with
anything he says, and the poor laity should accept it). Later on, as usual, an
intellectual who has got journalistic background and believes that with his
twisting of truth he can silence people, went deep into research, and finally
hypothesised that it is true that the song was written none other than an
ordained priest, no one else could make such a beatiful song which will steal
our heart, and the author is none other than that late Ramban of IOC. It is not
to forget that there were people who objected to this claim. But nobody from IOC
tried to differ on this great manipulative intellect's findings, and were very
happy that one of their Ramban was so great to write such a beautiful song. But
finally the truth came out, through the great grandchild of the real author of
this song Sadhu Konchukunj Upadeshi. The so called intellectual had finally
swallowed his on words on the authorship, and accepted the fact. I am happy that
finally he submit atleast on this issue to his consciousness, and hope in future
he will open his eyes and ears to pen down the true history of the Malankara
Church.

Then it came to my mind that the foundation of IOC is laid on such manipulative
articles and claims made by few individuals of that time with the help of a
print media (there were lot of instances that this print media had to swallow
their own words in different occasions in the past), and later there were a band
of such people, who wrote beautifully to corrupt the innocent minds of the
Malankara Syrian Christians. The above mentioned print media was the only one
read by the IOCians, and nowherelse they try to look into. They partly succeeded
upto a point of time. Never, ever anybody tried to correct these manipulative
histories wrote by such culprits, whose only intention was to make the people to
wander away from truth. Though few tried to put down the truth, it never reached
to the faithfuls, and blindly they support the perpetuators.

I sincerely wish and hope, the truth should be brought to the notice of the
people, who believe that whatever they have been fed during the last 100 years
as the history of Malankara church was wrong, and our forefathers rally behind
the Holy Church. The true story of The Saint of Malankara, our Parumala
Thirumeni should be brought to the notice of the people, and definitely they
will realize the truth. They should realize why still a sizeable number of
faithfuls hold the true faith, and object to the selfish actions of the priest
and high priest of IOC, who think they are the champions of true faith. The lies
they propagate currently never heard in the history of the Malankara Church till
the 19th century. The St. Thomas Christians of Malankara still believe that they
should be lead by a Malankara Metropolitan of Indian origin, and spiritually
supervised by the head of the Holy Church. It is not like the monopolistic
attitude of IOC leadership. In the name of democracy, they really make fool of
the people of this great church. Still the IOC leadership believe that with the
help of 1934 Constitution they can subdue the faithfuls here, a distant dream
they keep for decades. They subdued the great Catholicate to this constitution,
which is not acceptable to us. In the name of collective decision making by a
Synod, the IOC leadership make mockery of true democracy. There is no place for
the Holy Spirit to guide them. They do not know, how and when the Holy Spirit
work, who can be elevated to the post of a high priest by the intervention of
the Holy Spirit. I do not claim that all in IOC is misguided by the
misconceptions, but there are people, who still preach and practice the true
faith of their forefathers, but they are all sidelined or become silent
now-a-days. Let us all pray for these silent souls, who were compelled to be
under the control of a corrupt leadership in the name of a Church, which is
actually driven away from true faith and detaching themselves from the ONE and
HOLY Church.

Now slowly the scenario is getting changed. The print media made way to the
visual media, that shows the world the real scenes, and thus the masses are
aware about the truth. The IOC leadership is panic now with the truth coming
into public. The BABEL they have made for the last 100 years or so, is slowly
showing a sign of crack in the foundation itself. Individual churches are coming
public against their own bishops. They started fighting against each other, and
it is getting media attention. The pre-historic BABEL was against the wishes of
the Creator, and likewise the creation of Babel like IOC is against the wishes
of our Savior. The panic created with these exposes forced few to shed crocodile
tears. Few started crying that the media is against their church, the
politicians are against them, other churches in Kerala is against them, etc.
These people never accept that like the poor laity in IOC, they will not be able
to make the public fools, because the large number of visual and print media is
coming out with true stories, and this is a silver line in the horizon of hope
of the faithfuls to keep the flame of true faith.

With prayers,

"The four affections of the soul (anger, desire, pleasure, and fear) are like
four horses that are unmanageable when the chariot begins to move. Similarly the
soul, weighed down by its perishable body, hardly knows herself. It is as if
brute beasts seized control of a chariot, and its powerless occupant, amid
flying fears, is hurled and jolted about until the bodily passions are taken in
hand and calmed by the power of the Word. This foresight of the Word is like
that of a skilled driver; without it the soul, although not in itself liable to
death, can experience difficulties from disturbance in the mortal body conjoined
to it."

Dear Moderator

I have a suggestion. Why don't we think about creating a database of all members
of Jacobite Syrian Christian community. Such a database with all essential
information would be highly useful. The relevant details such as name, address,
date of birth, educational qualification, employement status, contact number,
e-mail id etc can be collected thru a questionnaire supplied at church level. If
we have such a database it would be highly useful for mobilising funds in times
of need ;for gathering support of the memebers in crisis situations; to inform
them about issues of faith & policy and many more. It is high time somebody
start working about this.Such database can be indexed at a parish level and made
available on internet.I hope this is a good topic for discussion.

Dear brother Junas, & Moderators

The news of Russian Orthodox Church outside of Russia reunited with the mother
Church in Russia is a divine action. This is good news for the Russian Orthodox
and an example that unity can happen even after many years of separation. The
break away faction of our Malankara Church can reunite with the mother church of
Universal Syriac Orthodox Church. There can be one Syriac Orthodox Church
worldwide. Later all Malankara break away Christians can unite with the mother
church.

Let us all pray for this unity.

Hindu Traditions of St. Thomas
Monday May 21st 2007, 3:09 am
A visitor named Justine recently made a major contribution to our
ongoing discussion of the traditions of St. Thomas the Apostle in
India. "I picked up this story travelling through Kerala," she
writes. "I think it is worth researching." I'm pasting her entire
message below. Justine adds: "The credit for writing this article
should go to Ms. Paula Gruber, a German tourist who visited
India/Kerala in 2005. I was responsible for translating it from
German to English."

THONDACCHAN AND THE FOUR SILVER COINS
The worship of Thondachan, a Hindu family deity, by a particular
lineage of Nairs (native martial clan) of Malabar, Kerala, and
especially the manner and ritual of this worship is noteworthy.
Though a family deity, Thondachan is never worshipped within the Nair household.
Nor has this deity been ever given a berth among the
pantheon of Hindu gods at any of the Hindu temples presided over by
the Brahman priests (called Namboodiris) . Thondachan has a special
altar built outside the Nair family compound, where non-Brahmin
priests perform rituals. While Chaamundi, Vishnumoorthy, Pottan,
Rakteshwari and Bhagavathi became the non-Aryan non-Brahmin deities
for the village folk of Kolathunaad (an ancient province of North
Kerala) along with other primitive spirits and folk-heroes,
Thondachan has an even smaller following among a select Nair clan. It is
believed, that up to the present day, altars for Thondachan's worship exists in
the Cherukunnu area in Kannur (Cannanore)district,
especially in the lands surrounding old tharavad houses (ancestral
mansions) of the Nairs.

When Thomachan (the apostle St. Thomas, - achan, ignifying 'father')
came ashore, landing at Maliankara near Moothakunnam village in Paravoor Thaluk
in AD 52, (this village located 5 kilometers from Cranganoor (Kodungallur) ,
Muziris, on the coast of Kerala), some of
his followers as well as other sailors and merchants were suffering from a
severe form of scurvy. Thomachan himself suffered from a sore throat which he
chose to ignore, and which grew steadily worse, until
no voice emanated from his lips for many days. A local Jew named Matan took the
weary travelers to a local Nair tharavad (locally known as Kambiam Vallapil), in
the province of Kolathunaad, a territory comprising the present Cannanore
District and Badagara Taluk of Kerala State.

It is said that at the time of Thomachan's arrival at the Nair
tharavad, the Nair karnavar (landlord or head of family) lay injured
from a grievous wound that had been inflicted upon him in a feudal
duel. Upon seeing this, Thomachan sat beside the injured man and
meditated, laying his hands on the man's head, his throat, his chest
and his groin. Immediately the karnavar felt relieved from pain, and
his healing was hastened. Within a day he was up and about, his
wounds nearly healed.

In return, the Nair household offered shelter to the strangers and
called upon their family physician to cure the scurvy that the
travelers suffered from, as well as Thomachan's severely infected
throat. Nellikaya (Emblic Myrobalan or Indian Gooseberry) based
potions prepared by the tharavad was used to cure the sea-worn
voyagers. In an act of gratitude, Thomachan is said to have blessed
them, and gave them four silver coins saying, "May these coins bestow my guru's
blessings upon you and your household, for take heed when I tell you that the
money I pay you today is anointed with the blood of my guru".

This holy man, Thomachan, is believed to have related a curious story to the
members of the tharavad, which has been passed down the ages. Before he set sail
from a seaport in the region called 'Sanai'
somewhere in the western seas, he had witnessed the persecution of
his guru, who was tortured and nailed to a wooden cross and left to
die. He spoke of how his guru returned from his ordeals three days
later, fully cured. His guru handed him the silver coins saying, 'my
body was sold with these, and now they have been returned to me, all
thirty pieces. Put them to good use, as I have. Though you shall
choose to travel by sea, I shall meet you again in the mountains of
the land where you will finally arrive.'

The Nair tharavad later migrated further north to the Cherukunnu area of present
day Kannur. They referred to the four silver pieces
as 'rakta velli' (blood silver) or 'parindhu velli' (parindhu for
eagle, as one face of all these four ancient coins bear the figure of an eagle).
They also decided never to utilize the silver as it was
the custom then not to part with the gift of a guest.

Over time, and with the advent of Christianity, the significance of
the four silver coins received by the tharavad was understood, but
family history is still obscure as to whether Thomachan possessed, or what he
did with the remaining twenty-six pieces of silver his guru gave him.

This Nair family never converted to the Christian faith as did many
others in that region. Subsequent migrations of Nair clans continued
throughout history, but the story of the four rakta velli pieces was
passed down the generations, as did their veneration for the holi
sanyasi Thomachan, (later called Thondachan, a nickname perhaps
coined from the story of his sore throat, -thonda for throat.

Another story goes that the name Thondachan was adopted in the early 16th
century to avoid persecution by the Portugese). Thus by a curious turn of
events, the apostle St. Thomas was transformed into a Hindu deity for an
ancient Nair clan of Kerala.

A present day member of this family is still in possession of the
four pieces of silver. i have seen the four pieces and have
identified them as the Shekels of Tyre, a common coinage of Judea of
the time of Christ.

Re: Angamaly Diocese

Dear Friend

U r explained the real situation of angamali now. only god can do some thing
there. we can pray for that. No good or dedicated leaders for us. No vision at
all. No dream at all from the bishops or priests side. We got lot of good orders
from different court. No machinery for doing to impliment that. No bisop for us
to take in care for that. No legal cell. Lot of valuable records in aluva
seminari. We dont know to utalise it.

We have leaders what u tell in this. They look after their own business. We dont
have a good church lover bishop like vattassery thirumeni....

Now our situation is very very bad. No body to help us. No political or social
leader to help us.

There is a small grop of people working for our church in angamali.
right now they will not get any good support from kottayam. Everybody
know our bavas situation. He is not well do all these. Instead of him
two three secretary hadling all these with their own interest. They
have their own interst with the angamali. If they actually like our
church they can do better better things now. I can suggest lot of
thins needed for angamali.

1 Appoint H G Youhanan Mar Milithious as Metrapolitha
2 Change Rev Fr M O JOhn from that position. He is not a good leader
for doing any thing in church. That he proved in Kottyam Seminari and
thrikkunneth seminari on Jan26.
3 Impliment different court ordes through a good legal sell.
4 Co Ordinate all people through good leadership.
5 Active functioning of youth movement.
6 Ordinate 15 new priests. Now shortage is there.
7 Give suit against all churches which is not supporting us.
8 Give first priority to the case.
9 Support all churches what ever they required.
10 Make sure that to get at least 100 people when ever reqd.

The above all we can done through only a good visionalbel leadership

We can pray for that

A Bible Devotion
----------

greetings!

How Does God Bless Us?

Does God bless us by giving us everything we think we should have, even if it's
bad for us?

Does God bless us by always letting us have our way -- whether it's the best way
for us, or not?

Does God bless us by letting us get away with self-destructive behavior?

Does God bless us by letting us mistreat other people with impunity?

Does God bless us by giving us more responsibility, more money, or more fame,
than we can handle?

Does God bless us by allowing us to never face the consequences of our actions?

Does God bless us by never allowing us to struggle or overcome difficulty?

If God blessed us in any of those ways, He would not be a good Father.

God blesses us by changing us into what we should be. He makes us to BE a
blessing. That puts us into God's category, where we can enjoy fellowship with
Him -- which is the greatest blessing.

GENESIS 12:2

Dear All,

A story, thought provoking one:

This story tell about a grand mother's story. Enjoy it!

After settling down her son and daughter the mother was so happy. As customary
this mother also stayed with his son. Both her son and daughter got kids. The
mother used to visit her daughter often, and was close with her grand children
at her daughter's place also. The kids started their schooling, the vacations
were very much awaited by both the kids to visit their cousins. Children grew to
realize the facts. During one such vacation time, the grandchild visited her
uncles house, where the grand mother staying with. One day the grand mother took
both her grandchildren to the paddy field to see whether the paddy is ripe
enough for harvest. On her way to the field, she carried her daughter's
girl-child - a cute and intelligent one, and her grandson was walking along with
them. The girl-child wanted to walk and run along with her cousin, but the
grandmother was just holding her with a little force, to show her how she love
this child, may be more than the grandson who is always with her. They reached
the paddy field. Still she was carrying that child. She told her "all these
fields are ours", and the paddy is ripe enough for harvesting. In between she
asked that child jokingly, "whose field is this all"? Immediately the child
answered, "grandma, it's YOUR'S". Then she asked the boy who was walking with
her, whose field is this? The boy answered, "grandma, it's OUR'S". The lady got
struck at that moment. She started thinking about "YOUR's & OUR's. The answer of
that child whom she was carrying to show her affection and love, told her it's
YOUR's. Immediately she let her go from her laps, and caught the boy child and
hold him so tightly, who answered that it's OUR's. Then and then only this
mother realized how foolish she was to think the other way a moment back. It was
an eye opener to this old lady to show her love and affection to her
grandchildren with whom she stays.

For the last century or so, the Malankarites are just like this old lady. Which
we all think - OUR church & YOUR church. Both the faithfuls are in a confusion -
how can we say that the other is OUR church. Ours and Yours have got its own
clear demarcations, and it is time NOW to keep both these separately, and then
only we can have a peaceful co-existence. Your's cannot be Our's. By force or
with the help of law, one will not be able to conquer and subdue YOUR church and
make it Our church. Let us face the reality, and accept the same, and act with
true christian spirit of love. We, Malankarites can show the world by living in
this country that Unity in Diversity is possible. Let us all pray for the
intervention of the Holy Spirit to solve the century old crisis by realizing the
facts and not by the intervention of a court of law.

With prayers,

Dear All

One more His-storian had born in the break away faction of Malankara
Church. This His-Storian is not layman; rather he is a clergy (one Fr. Ninan K.
George – Father of what???) in the hierarchy of that faction. So we can consider
this findings and statements published in their official publication is the true
believe of that faction. As per this new His-Storian, our forefathers were
Chalcedonian in faith.

QUOTE

Until the arrival of Portuguese in Kerala, the ST. THOMAS CHRISTIANS
HAD VERY CLOSE ASSOCIATION WITH PERSIAN CHURCH THAT FOLLOWS CHALCEDONIAN FAITH,
which the church of Antioch considers a heresy. In 1599 Arch bishop Alex De
Menezis drew the St. Thomas Christians into the Church of Rome. A vast majority
of this group was fed up in losing their identity, which yielded result in the
Coonen Cross Oath held in 1653 when the St. Thomas Christians for the very first
time experienced pain of division. They were divided into two-one group that
remained in Roman Catholic Church, which is called "pazhaya kootar" and the
other group came into contact with the Church of Antioch which is known as
"Puthenkootar".
UNQUOTE

Dear innocent brothers who trapped within the breakaway faction, please open
your eyes and understand the hidden agendas of the hierarchy of this faction.

Once they tried to establish our forefathers were Nestorians, now they says they
were Chalcedonian . Who knows what will be the next findings of these
His-Storians.

I think Karthikappally incident was aiming to this conclusion. But
Holy Sprit safeguards our forefather's name from heretic group.

The originator of "autonomy and autocephalous ecclesiastical nature " of this
break away faction Paulose Mar Gregorious, dare to claim this new findings. As
per the Mar Greiogorius Paulose:

"We in India belong to this Patriarchate even if we have our own
Catholicose and are autonomous. We have no other sources from which
to renew our ancient tradition, except the tradition of Antioch, of
the Great Syrian Church, which once had spread through the length
and breadth of Asia, right up to China and Korea. It would be the
height of ingratitude and most deplorable folly on our part if we
grieve his heart (the Patriarch) with any word which seeks to
dissociate ourselves with the Patriarchate of Antioch." wrote on
October 9, 1968 in the "News from Seema" page 21-22.

Another historian of this break away faction, Fr. Dr. V.C. Samuel
wrote, " From 470 the Catholicate of Persia were influenced by the
Nestorian Faith and by 486 it officially accepted the faith. After
that by 629 only the Anthiocan Syrian Catholicate was able to
reestablished in Persia (The Malankara Sabha, Page 25, Issue No. 41,
October 1986).

I hope this new father His-Storian's card will not be accepted by the innocent
faithful of that faction.

Read one more funny statement from this new His-Storian.

QUOTE
"Supreme Catholicos" must be different in his dress code. All bishops wear black
gown and royal hat. Wearing of there chains in now sufficient to make His
Holiness different. It is my humble suggestion to change the color of His gown
and hat. I hope at least these changes can make public to know who is the
original Catholicos of the East.

Yes they must even put a name board on his neck to distinguish him or let this
His-storian lead a delegation to Varanasi and select good attire for him. . Very
soon we will see it.

Good Luck!!!!!!!!!

"Indianisation" in IO Church started with the new Secretary's sworn-in
ceremony!!!

Dear friends,

The IO Church heirarchy were hardly able to push forward the idea of
'indianisation'or 'induction of Indian cuture' in their Church until now.
However, the sworn-in-ceremony of their new secretary was befitting for
fulfilling their long cherished desire!!! It was reported several times by
their own publications that Devalokam Church is depending on astrology for many
things. We had seen it in Devalokam Head Quarters and then recently in
Karthikappally Church.

As per their 'Almayavedi' publication of 24th May, their new Secretary was
sworn-in as per the astrologers advise of 'Muhoortham or best time' on "utradam
nal" between 8 am & 8.15 am!!!!!! Since the time cannot be changed, they had to
bring the former secretary Alexander Karakkel to Devalokam in a special vehicle
sent from Devalokam!!!! And lastly the 'vedi' publication lamented that the
'sworn-in' ceremony was set way before the Devalokam office timing and hence
none of the office staff could not attend the function!!!! What a pity for this
Indian 'autocephalous' Church!!!!!!! May be this is the start of their
'indianisation' in their church!!! "Eeshwaro Rakshathu'!!!!

Ethiopian church finally OKs HIV drugs

For the past year, Yonas Tadesse has been trying to stave off the effects of HIV
with a blend of science and faith -- he takes antiretroviral medicine but also
drinks a litre of holy water, blessed by a priest.

The combination has long been a source of controversy in the Ethiopian Orthodox
Church, where many local leaders believe patients should not take both holy
water and medicine.

But on Wednesday, Ethiopia's top religious official gave the treatment his
blessing in a country where an estimated 1.5 million people are infected with
HIV.

"I am asking each and every one of them to swallow the medicine and the holy
water together," Patriarch Abune Paulos told a crowd of about 250 worshipers at
Addis Ababa's Entoto Mariam church. "They never conflict each other."

Although the patriarch issued a proclamation in November allowing holy water to
be used in conjunction with AIDS medications, many local Orthodox priests have
continued to tell patients they would have to choose between the two.

Yonas, 41, who was in the congregation Wednesday, said he was pleased to know
his preferred treatment was acceptable.

"I feel better now. Before, they forbade me to take the medicine," he said of
his priests. "Now they welcome it."

Donald Y. Yamamoto, the U.S. ambassador in Addis Ababa, said spiritual healing
is often as important as medicine in Ethiopia, where about half the population
is Orthodox Christian.

"It's an issue of faith and religion, where religion and science come together
to support each other," he said.

About half of the 140 patients who take antiretrovirals at St. Petros Hospital
in Addis Ababa also drink holy water -- sometimes up to a gallon per day, said
Dr. Solomon Zewdu.

"There's no study out there that says it is working, but we don't want to
discredit faith-based healing," he said. "All medicine should be allowed to be
taken with holy water."

A patient at St. Petros, a frail 14-year-old orphan, said he was glad he was not
sinning by taking medicine along with his holy water. "After I began taking the
medicine," he said with a wide smile, "I'm becoming OK."

When he arrived the hospital, he weighed 45 pounds and was on the verge of
death. After a few months of treatment, he is up to 60 pounds and will return to
school.

The boy's caretaker asked that he not be identified because of the stigma
attached to HIV.

Another patient, a woman who also did not want to give her name, pointed to
another benefit.

"Now I have hope," she said, "in the holy water as well as in the medicine."
