I am unaware of any recent miracle in Thiruvalla Simhasana Pally. But before
six years my daughter Liya got a picture of mother Mary from her college and she
kept it in the show case in our living room and in march 2004 my wife found it
wet and tried to dry it in sun shine but failed. this picture was wet for
several months and on august 15th morning we took this to Simhasana church to
Malankara Malpan Kaniyanparambil Kurian Corepiscopa achan who had a vision about
this miracle for months (Achen wrote an article on this in our magazine) this
was wet for another one year and malpanachen covered this with a plastic cover
and then it dried out slowly.

This picture is still kept in Simhasan Pally and on Wednesdays there is special
morning mass and prayers at the church attended by many who receive blessing.

This is true and I am the one who gave this wet photo to Malpanachan.

What is Our Life? 2nd sermon

Between birth and death, both remembered and celebrated this week (Presentation
of Christ in the Temple at 40 days old and the Sunday of All Departed), this
second sermon continues the talk about our life in between. Using the Orthodox
blessings of candles and the memorial of all the departed, the issues of
spiritual life while in between in this world and then ending is revealed.

"Now, let me depart in peace, O Lord, for my eyes have seen Thy salvation..."
Song of Simeon

"...For what is our life? It is but a vapor, which appears for a little while
and then vanishes away..." James 4:14

This sermon uses the readings and services appointed from the Malankara
lectionary and was given on Sunday, February 7, 2010 by Fr John Brian Paprock at
Holy Transfiguration Orthodox Mission Chapel, Madison, Wisconsin.

"Faith in Christ is... a good and patient disposition of the soul in enduring
all temptations, whether griefs, sorrows or unpleasant happenings, until God's
favour looks down upon us; thus we would imitate David who says: 'I waited
patiently for the Lord; and He inclined to me and heard my cry' (Ps. 40:1)."

St. Simeon the New Theologian.

I have no information about this.

It is at KATTACHIRA St. Mary's Chruch (near Kayamkulam Bus Station - 3 kms.

number of believers are visiting the church, and we one among them.

May Mother Mary pray for us and wipe our tears.

Dear Moderators,

Please post the following message in the SOCM forum. We will be obliged.

It is proposed to have the "Golden Jubilee Reunion" of the 1963 SSLC batch of
the St:Peter's High School Kolenchery in 2013 to be held at Kolenchery. Some of
us are still around, a few have already gone to their heavenly abode while a few
others are down physically and metaphysically. It is proposed to have a get
together of all who are willing and able to share our reminisces of the past. As
you know, some of us never met after 1963, although all are from the neighboring
villages. A very few are still in friendship and fellowship. Some of us have
made to the top of echelon of the society by education, hard work and exposure.

Why not meet all of us, with spouses, as we were some 50 years ago? Your ideas,
views and advices are earnestly solicited. In the afternoon of our lives, we may
be able to do something positive and productive to the school and community we
grew up in.

Please contact with your suggestions

OR

Paulose K.P.at: paulpathrose@...

with kind regards,

the one body of our Lord,God and Saviour Jesus Christ. Our Lord,as you so
perfectly pointed out, teaches us the path and way to salvation which is
love.Love is the very bedrock and foundation of the faith as our Lord expressed
it so beautiful when he stared that we must love God above all else and our
neighbor as ourselves.Upon this hangs all the law and the commandments. We as
Orthodox Christians are called to live this life of love and make every aspect
of our lives be centered upon prayer, love and bearing the fruits of the Holy
Spirit by remaining Christ centured and seing everybody as a living icon of
Christ and dedicating our entire life unto Him.We must also look above and
beyond in love to realise that all of us who have been blessed with the true
Orthodox faith to realise that we are all brothers and sisters in Christ,
whether we are Oriental Orthodox (Syrian Orthodox, Syrian Malankara Orthodox,
Coptic Orthodox, Armenian Orthodox, Ethiopian Orthodox, Eretrian Orthodox,
Indian Orthodox)or Eastern-Byzantine Orthodox (Greek, Russian, Antiochain,
Serbian, Romainian, ect). This also includes the Church of the East and even the
Eastern Rite Cathoilc churches such as the Maronites and other Orthodox churches
who have went back to being under Rome because they still follow the Orthodox
typicon and spiritual, mystical path. We are all one body and church and we need
to realise this and act upon it in a all embracing love and sence of unity under
our Lord,God and Saviour Jesus Christ, that we may abide in Him,and He in us that
we may be one.

Berek Aloho,
In our Saviour,
Moran Yashua Mshiho Bar Aloho,
Shlomo,
Michael.

Dear Mr.Joseph Varghese,

Shlomo!!

We don't believe in Transubstantiation or Consubstantiation. The faith of the
Catholic church, the substance is changed after the invocation. But in our church
believes that the substance do not change, but remain as bread and wine
itself.(At the same time the body and blood of Jesus Christ).Infact,it is a
mystery which the human cannot see or understand through their senses.

If you go through Kanyamparambil Achan's Sabhacharithram, you will find the
description about Transubstantiation.

Rev Dn Joshy C Abraham also explained with regards to the same subject few
months back.

Regards in HIS Name.

Church celebrates the memory of St. Severios, the Great on February 8th. The
fifth diptych (Thubaden) remembers Mor Severios as “Patriarch Mor Severios,
the crown of the Syrians, that rational mouth and pillar and teacher of all the
holy Church of God, the meadow fill of flowers who always preached that Mary is
undoubtedly the Mother of God.

Brief Biography of Mor Severios

Mor Severios was born at Sozopolis, Pisidia. His father was a member of the
Council of the city. Mor Severios was the third son of his parents. After the
death of his father, Mor Severios's mother send him to one of the most eminent
monastery in Alexandria to study Green, Latin and rhetoric. Later in A.D 486 he
went to Beirut and studied Law and practiced as an advocate there. At this time
he read widely on theology and published a book praising St. Paul “ Encomium of
the Apostle Paul. It is not certain whether his parents were Christians.
Severios was baptized in AD 488 at Tripolis. He sold all his properties and
distributed to poor and needy. Mor Severios visited Jerusalem and joined the
monastery of Peter between Gaza and Majuma. After learning the Holy Bible and
the customs of ascetic life he build a Monastery nearby and lived there. He
became ill due to the strict ascetic practices in the monastery.

Bishop Epphiphanos ordained Severios as Priest. He lived at Constantinople
during AD 508-511. Patriarch Flavian II was removed from the Throne in AD 512.
Severios was enthroned Patriarch on 6th November 512. After assuming the
position as Patriarch, he continued the monastic life style. He demolished all
luxurious facilities build by his predecessor (Aphrem 1963).

In A.D 518 a pro-Chalcedonian emperor, came into power and the writings of
Patriarch Mor Severios were burned. Anybody having in his or her possession the
writings of Mor Severios were tortured. Subsequently, on 29th September AD 518,
he was exiled from Antioch
to Alezandria. The teachings of Patriarch Mor Severioson the incarnation is
famous. His conception of the incarnation was, that all the human qualities
remained in Christ unchanged in their nature and essence, but that they were
amalgamated with the totality of hypostasis; that they had no longer separate
existence, and having no longer any kind of center or focus of their own, no
longer constituted a distinct monad. On the contrary, the foci had become one.
The monads were conjoined; the substratum in which the qualities of both natures
inhered no longer had an independent subsistent in this composite hypostasis.

The above confession of faith is repeated during the fracture and commixture in
the Holy Mass. That is He is One Immanuel, and is indivisible into two natures
after the unity. Thus we believe and thus we confess and this we confirm.

The responsory (Manisso) of Mor Severios sung in the beginning of the
celebration of Holy Qurobono also proclaims the basic tenet of the church
regarding the incarnation of God, the Word. .. and did become
incarnate of the Holy and glorious pure virgin, Mother of God, Mary; who did
become man, being God without change, and was crucified for us.

Patriarch Mor Severios was a prolific writer. He has prepared a liturgy and
several other prayers for special occasions, as list of which is available. Mor
Severios foreseeing his death called his disciples and said: It is good that I
am going to join Jesus Christ. You will also come to me there and will again
unite. He spend about twenty years in hiding and departed for the heavenly abode
on 8th Feb(Saturday) 538 at Sakha, Egypt at the age of 79.

"When you hear of the impassible and invisible nature of the supramundane angels
and of the wicked nature - wise, acute and extremely crafty in deceit - of him
who fell away from that realm, do not think that any such being is equal with
God. Seeing the greatness of the heaven and its manifold motions, the sun's
brilliance, the shining of the moon, the bright twinkle of the stars, the
beneficial breezes of the air, the broad back of the sea and land, do not make a
god of any of them. For all are servants and creations of the one God, brought
forth from non-being by His Logos. 'For He spake and they came into being; He
commanded and they were created' (Ps. 33:9. LXX). Him alone, therefore, the
Master and Creator of all, you should glorify as God and through love you should
cleave to Him..."

Michael, well said.

Until each one of us embraces and truly lives by the words"Being in
Christ and be His emissary", these squabbles will persist, for we humans
are driven by possession, greed, wealth, power, fame, etc. which are not
qualities that Christ wants us to strive for. Unlike true followers of
Christ, all of us often forget to forgive and be compassionate. Let's
hope we all get there one day before it is too late!

Jacob

Dear Dn. Aniss Sowmy,

Thanks for your long description. I may join with you for your family's
suffering occured during the early 20th century. There are lot of things to
write about the killing of Syrian Xians by the Muslim rulers of Turkey and how
the British cheated the Cristian community in the Middle East but time doesn't
allow me to write more, will write sometimes next. Importantly, Pope supported
all type great human trajedies like Mussoliny's brutality, Hitlers' massacre and
British's cheatings.

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Glory to God!

Why is there so many posts of a political nature in regards to political
problems within the Syrian Malankara Orthodox church and the Indian Orthodox
church. It is obvious with the steps taken by the Antiochian Patriarchate to
excomunicate the Indian Orthodox church that the reason for this is obvious to
all and it should be left at that. To continually dwell on church politics
detracts one from the life giving spiritual attention one should be devoting to
prayers and living a life according to the Holy Gospel of our Lord,God,and
Saviour Jesus Christ and the saving ark of our Holy Orthodox church. Our Lord
instructed us in the way of divine love and for us to love Him above all else
and our neighbors as ourselves. He instructed us to love oneanother to the
degree that we even love those who hurt and hate us and who are our enemies. By
loving our enemies they are no longer our enemies as it takes 2 to create a
conflict between themselves.

In Christ,
Michael.

SHORT DOCUMENTARY ON COUNCIL OF EUROPE SYRIAC RESOLUTION 1704

Following from the landmark Resolution 1704 in the Council of Europe on 27
January 2010, the Syriac Universal Alliance has released a Short Documentary
which can now be viewed exclusively on YouTube. The Short Documentary can be
viewed in two parts
(1) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u36-2IOlqlw
and
(2) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66pYFsvK4HM.

This Documentary will officially premiere soon on SuryoyoSat Television.

Following heavy influence and direction from the Syriac Universal Alliance, the
Council of Europe made the historical decision of agreeing Resolution 1704. The
SUA worked tirelessly in order to inform all Council of Europe Parliamentarians
about the plight of the Syriac (Aramean) people. Dr. P.H. Pieter Omtzigt, Dutch
MP and CoE Parliamentarian, was the main protagonist who lead the charge during
the Council of Europe meetings.

What the Syriac Universal Alliance achieved is unprecedented. This is the first
Council of Europe Resolution which highlights the problems faced by the Syriac
(Aramean) people and it must be applauded worldwide. The Resolution focused on
minority rights in Turkey and Greece but with specific reference to the Syriac
(Aramean) people, stating the following:

(1) Land Theft -
The Council of Europe recognises the precarious and well-known situation of the
Mor Gabriel Monastery and for the first time, also the unlawful expropriation of
significant amounts of land in Tur Abdin. This is land which historically and
legally belongs to a multitude of other ancient Syriac monasteries, churches and
proprietors in Southeast Turkey (Article 19.6);

(2) Indigenous Status and Protection -
The Council of Europe agreed in the Resolution that Turkey must officially
recognise, promote and protect the indigenous Syriac(Aramean) people in Turkey
as a minority in compliance with international law. The result being Arameans
can officially educate in their Aramaic mother tongue (Article 19.7); and

(3) Monitoring –
The Turkish State must report back to the Council of Europe by February 2011,
the process it has made to comply with the Resolution (Article 20).

The Syriac Universal Alliance recommends you see see www.sua-ngo.org for a copy
of recent press releases on this matter and others. The SUA will continue to
inform you in relation to upcoming news and developments in these matters. If
you require any further information, please contact Mr. Daniel Gabriel (SUA’s
Human Rights and UN NGO Director) on daniel.gabriel@.... For more
information, you can also contact Mr. Johny Messo (SUA’s President) on
