The goal of SOARing Unschoolers (SOuthern ARizona Unschoolers) is to create a community of like-minded families in the Tucson area and throughout Southern Arizona for support, discussions, and get-togethers. We like to have fun with our kids and each other!

This is a social group for families who are currently unschooling or moving toward unschooling. Discussions about the joys and challenges of unschooling are welcome, as is information about interesting events. Debates about the merits of unschooling (or curricula) and hard-hitting discussions about what is and what is not unschooling are best left to other lists.

It is understood that each family is at a different point in their journey. What we all share is an active desire to move toward unschooling--to eliminate required subjects, assignments, and tests, and replace those with a stimulating, enriched environment and lots of parental support for kids in pursuing their interests and passions.

This group is neither a subgroup of nor intended to compete with any other group. Unschoolers in the Tucson area may also want to join Sonoran Desert Homeschoolers (http://www.hozho.homestead.com/ ) for the opportunities a larger group can offer.

We usually have weekly gatherings and activities--check the posts and calendar for current days and locations.
