Deborah,

  May have found "Josephus":

CSUTTEK, Jozsef (36 y.o. married locksmith)from Kubina, arriving Aug 16, 1899
going to brother in St. Clair, Pa and *** had been here "90/3" - 4 years ( which
I interpret to be 1890-1893? ). Totally unable to make out the name of the town,
even after comparing all present-day places in Schuylkill County:

Bob,
The easiest means is for you to send us the link to page you want to be
translated. Or post here.

For your information here is a link where you can view the results of the
surname Sugar during the 1995 Slovak Census -
http://slovniky.korpus.sk/?w=Sugar&c=Qdb4
SUGÁR, ŠUGÁR and ŠUGAR are the three spellings for the surname. After the
surname are two numbers; the first is the number for the name and the second is
for the number of locations it was found.
Next comes the “top 10”locations for the surname. The town name followed by
the “okr”- okres/district. There can be “obec/city ...” when the
location is a neighborhood in a city.

see that the distribution of the Sugar name has concentrations in certain kraj.

Diocese.

If so, and they were married in the U.S. and lived in St. Clair, Pa., then
there is a good possibility that you may be able to obtain marriage
information (not a marriage certificate, but a transcription of what is
recorded
in the sacramental records) from the Diocese of Pittsburgh Archives Center.

Though not Joseph's marriage, this may be of interest to you:

Hi Judy,

St. Clair is in Schuylkill County, PA. You can access county records by going
to www.co.schuylkill.pa.us/info then on the right of the page, click on
Marriage Docket Information. You will be able to type in the names of the bride
and groom. If a record exists, it will show up. The you can call the
courthouse and request a copy. I found my great-grandparents marriage record
this way. Cost is very reasonable.

I did try to type in several of the spellings you suggested and didn't find
anything. However, this is a good source of information to have and perhaps you
can try other spelling variations and find what you are looking for.

Good luck!

Martha

I ammust apologizeto those of youwho tried tohelp me find the village
Stutnick. My friend gave me the village name but after checking with her brother
she came back with Rochovce. I don't see any resemblance to the names but I will
go with the brother and try to get more information from him.

I did find two possibilities, Rochovce in eastern Slovakia and Kohovce in
south-west Slovakia. As the second is closer to Piestany, I will start there.
Thank you all for your help this time and all the times in the past. I started
my genealogical searchknowing nothing and in the fall we will be going to
Slovakia to visit a cousin I found in Senica. I also put together a book with
the help of Ancestry of my grandfather's life and am now working on a book of
my grandmother's life. Not to bad in the last seven years.

Thanks Again,
Joanne Liston

Enjoy the trip. I am up to seven visits as a direct result of the hobby and they
want me to come again, perhaps later this year.

Wow! "t.salony" that was exactly him to the correct birth date in the Slovak
Baptism records! I am SO grateful for your help. That is incredible. He was a
locksmith? hmmmm. I wonder how that fit in with his younger brothers being
laborers. And to know that he was here in 1890 1893 fits in because that was
when Anna came over (appr 1893) She more than likely came with Joseph as her
contact. And his younger brother Steven most likely would be his contact when
he came a second time.Very interesting. It says he was married, but now I have
no idea who his wife and children were were or whether they lived in the States
or Klubina. next mystery for me to solve. :)

Caye,
The baptism record for Janos Sugar was from a Greek Catholic Church.

After the surname are two numbers; the first is the number for the name and the
second is for the number of locations it was found.

Hello All,

In a previous recent post I found a possible ancestor or at least an
ancestral branch. He was Georgius Mraffko - otherwise Mraffkó György
There was enough information in his children's birth records to show that
he was of civic importance. - eg a lawyer and perhaps later a Lord in
Bratislava and afterwards in Budapest.
So I started looking and found mention of him at AdatbázisokOnline.
This only a catalogue entry, and gives me good hope of finding more about
him.

http://193.224.149.8/adatbazisokol/talalatok?keyword=Mraffk%C3%B3+Gy%C3%B6rgy
When you click through and read the notes in full, it states in part that
the information it could provide includes *(with reference to the nobility)
~ This is google translated:

1 / - to the conventional I-line, pre-and surname,
- Give the name of the wife of conventional,
- Names of descendants and their spouses,
- I give the conventional siblings and their spouses and descendants of
names
- Different surnamed relatives, or give their conventional peers and
spouses, descendants of names
2 / - deed of gift to the publisher's name,
- The place of publication,
- The date of issue,
- The type of donation,
3 / - to be announced at diploma,
- The time of publication,
4 / - donated land for the donated land title and department,
5 / - National Archives of symbols,
6 / - a reference to the classification number under the type of source,
7th / - a reference to the literature,
8 / - reference to the county town and the church - of authentication - for
archival classification number,
9 / - a reference to family relatives, associates or I-bar.

That's very detailed and could be a great resource. Sounds interesting and
it will be on my shopping list!

AdatbázisokOnline is a fast growing resource. About 6 months ago, they had
only digitized the 1715 and 1720 searchable tax records. Now, it contains
many collections and is easily reachable (Mon-Fridays, some weekends except
public holidays) at:

http://193.224.149.8/adatbazisokol/

Hungarian only. The site isn't too user friendly and would suit moderately
experienced database researchers.

Playing around with it, I also found a 1601 resource (product) census of
many villages and towns of principally Hapsberg controlled areas. You do
have to know the very early names of your town for the search to work
though. I had to use a neighbouring village name that didn't change too
much to bring my village name up.

current reference is much further west, if I understand correctly.

In other news, the ADAM clan elder will celebrate her 105th birthday on April 27
and we will be in Perryopolis, PA, to celebrate.

The folks in Slovakia keep asking about our next visit, which may be in the
fall.

All this came as a result of our genealogy hobby.

Best thing that I ever did!

Has anyone looked at the records that are now on line for the 1869 Census of the
former Zemplen County. They appear to be mislabeled. I did not check all the
records listed for Zemplen but the ones that I did check were all for Saros
County and not for Zemplen.

Hi One and All,

I was sent this message in response to my inquiry of where to get a certified
official copy of my grandfather's baptismal/birth record and great grandfather's
marriage record and was told to contact ocu-nacinaves@... and received
this message but don't know where to go from here.  Where and what is the
register they're talking about?  The wedding and baptismal both took place in

I was doing a search on the LDS on my family (Terek) and I noticed that the
Terek's had married into the Sugar family and vice versa at several times. This
was found in the Pcolina and Snina records from the Greek Catholic Church.

Caye,
The baptism record for Janos Sugar was from a Greek Catholic Church.

After the surname are two numbers; the first is the number for the name and the
second is for the number of locations it was found.

followed by the “okr- okres/district. There can be

see that the distribution of the Sugar name has concentrations in certain kraj.

Never before did I have "street view" available on Google Maps for my villages.
I don't know exactly when this change happened, but the street view option is
now available for the main road (highway 51 and highway 590) and some side
streets into my villages allowing me get a pretty good view of what my villages
look like now. Whith the close up viewer you can actually see the house numbers
if they face that street. Maybe some of you have always had this before, but it
is a wonderful change for me. Great for those of us who have not had the
opportunity to travel there in person. If you did not have a "street view" of
your village before, maybe you have the addition now too.

When I visited eastern Slovakia a year or so ago, I used Michal Razus, and he
was excellent! He took me to every town/village/church my family was associated
with, and also recommended an affordable and delightful pensione. We met with
possible relatives, and he led me through the process for getting official
documents relating to my grandfather. Turns out he was actually 2years older
than the Ellis Island ship records showed! His contact info is:

michal.razus@...

Good luck,

Judy,
My ancestral village, Hromos, was filmed by Google Earth in 5/2012. It has
been three years since I was there last. It was great to “drive” through the
village and see what is new.
In the past we had an in-depth discussion about house numbers in Slovakia.
One has to take the numbers “with a grain of salt”, since the location with
the house number now can be way off from what it was during those 1800’s
records. The only way to know for sure is to go to the village/town City Hall
and see if they have a map that covers the years of the records.
Also, the house that is on the lot today is more likely something new.
During the 1800’s the square log cabin style house was the standard.
Eventually, those were covered in plaster. I had the “romantic” view of
those log cabins when I got to Slovakia for the first time. The Mayor of Hromos
lived in one, so I asked him about them. He told me that they were usually
rebuilt every 50 years. He didn’t think any in Hromos was built before the
1950’s. Dry rot and termites were the biggest enemy of those log cabins.
