Parichat,

Do you know the date and birth place?
The state vital records after 1906 are kept by the registry offices (in
Slovak Matričný úrad). In order to give you the relevant registry
office, I need to know the birth place and date, because the registry
districts (matričný obvod) changed from time to time.

Hi everybody,
I'm new member here. I'm Slovak living in TN (new US citizen) and I love History
and Genealogy. Just finished my Genealogy in Trencin area.
I have to tell you guys: you are doing fantastic job! I'm amazed how many
information about Slovakia you have and were able to find and how good are you
in reading and understanding old Slovak/Hungarian record. You have to dill with
3 languages-Slovak, Latin and Hungarian. You even were able to recognize Karol
Plickas' pictures (I have more of them). Great !
Please, let me know if I can help somehow.
Zuzana (Susanna in Latin)

It is wonderful to share Karel Plicka's magnificent photos but please identify
the photographer - he was the best and spent a good part of his life traveling
the Slovakia he loved and recording the people, their dress and their way of
life (he was a Czech but like famed painter Jan Hala fell in love with Slovakia
- it happens to so many of us!)

There is a small museum devoted to Plicka and his magnificent work south of
Martin.

I have 1920 naturalization paperwork that identifies an Austria-Hungarian
village as what looks to me as "Nedecz". The naturalization paperwork is at the
following link on Ancestry.

http://search.ancestry.com/iexec?htx=View&r=an&dbid=2717&iid=31311_134376-00268&\
fn=Mihal+George&ln=Novak&st=r&ssrc=&pid=303963

I located the 1905 arrival ship manifest and the village name appears to be the
same as listed on the naturalization papers. However, I think I have also found
him on 2 previous manifests with different villages which seem to read "Gabocz"
and "Casba"

Trying to use Google etc. I haven't been able to determine what any of these
village are. Hoping that someone might be able to help me out.

Thanks in advance,
Judy

Judy,
It is a village in the Trencin district. Its current name is Nededza. It is just
a few miles east of the city of Zilina.

Judy,
Here is a possibility-
Nededza ZA/ZI trenč.
1773 Nedecza, Nedeca, 1786 Nedecza, 1808 Nedecza, Nědeca, 1863–1902 Nedec,
1907–1913 Vágnedec, 1920– Nededza

Nedec was used during the time period on the documents. It was in the Hungarian

Thanks Curt, John and Michael for your thoughts. The Trencin locaton looks like
a great possibility.

Now with the direction you've given me, I've been looking through the
FamilySearch on line records trying to find the church records but after I
choose "Roman Catholic" I don't know which choices to make next. I tried the
Trencin and Zelina records but I don't find Nedecz after that. Using FHC place
search for "Nedecz" in Slovakia doesn't give me any help.

Michael, I see how you found the Micahel Novaks from Nedecz, but actually the
passenger lists I think are his are not any of those. On the passenger list that
is refered to in the naturalization papers the handwriting of first letter of
his last name does not look like an "N" unless you already know that is is, so
heaven know what it was interpreted to be.

If I can get to the church records and find him with the date of birth I have
then I'll know I have the right place.

Thank you all for your help.

Thanks so much John.

But now that I've searched the birth records for RC / Zilina / Varin for
1885-1892 (I have birthdates of 19 Aug 1888 on Naturalization and 25 Oct 1888 on
WW II Draft card) I don't find him. Waiting on the U.S. church records that I
hope will have a location of birth/origin.

My husband possible is a distant relation but his Ehret family moved west 100
years ago.
So, sorry no connection but the funny thing is that my father-in-laws name is

Slovakian one? And, is there a main Greek Catholic church center/eparchy where
records were sent?

mhuba,
Yes, they are online. You will find them them in the FHL collection listed
under the Roman Catholic records - Ruzemberok district - Liptovska Luzsna.

I have provided a link to the Liptovska Luzna records online. As you can see
they end in 1847. It may well be that the newer records have not been cataloged
yet. Next is the names Liptovska Luzna has been know by throughout its history.
Liptovska is located in the okres/district of Ruzomberok and the kraj/region of
Zilinsky. It was located in the Hungarian county of Liptov.

You have received two previous partial answers.

The later records contain information that is too recent and so that information
is available on film ONLY at your LDS Family History Center.

Krsty 1847-1855 Birmovan 1939, 1933, 1927 Krsty 1855-1866 Manelstv 1855-1883
mrtia 1855-1873 Krsty 1867-1895 Manelstv 1844-1855 mrtia 1844-1855 Birmovan
1911 Manelstv 1884-1895 mrtia 1874-1892 - FHL INTL Film [ 1983123 Items 1-7
]

Order it online and then wait about a month for delivery to your FHC.

I need help with a full translation of this entry, left page, 2nd from the
bottom:
For Georgius, father Nicholai? MRAVKO

I'm not sure, but are these entries by the Franciscan order? I ask because
there is another entry for Trencin, 1698 for Andras MRAVKO without the
mention of any Order:

I'm aware that there was a Dominican order, but I don't see the
significance of a priest mentioning his order unless it has something to do
with the expulsion of the Turks as recently as 1697 in Visegrad. Could this
be evidence of the counter-reformation movement?

I think it's just the priest's name, Francis. Here's what I read:

On the 26th?/20th? day of March (unus?) Father Francis baptized George born
(in) Trnava, the son of Nicholas Mravko, the father, and Catherine, the mother.
The godfather was Christopher Hiol??, and the godmother was Rosina (Rose?) the
wife of the godfather.

Joe,

I am quite sure it is not the priest's name but says that one (=unus) ordained
Fransiscan monk made the baptism. That has been often so when the regular vicar
was not available for some reason (illness, travel etc...)

Dear John,
I tried to have informations about Family Center in Clermont-Ferrand.
They have no films , but their church is opened only on sundays for offices.
Perhaps somebody living near Horna Micina could help me ?
Thank you.

Thank you again,
But I confirm that it is impossible to make an appointment in Clermont. This is
a disc when answering the phone. We are invited to attend the Sunday office.
Limoges and Ecully are a bit far for me. As I have come to Banska in August, I
will go directly to the mayor.
I regreat to do not have help from Slovakia.
Best regards.

Right page, last entry.
I need to know what "(penes?) excels camera cancellista" in reference to
the father Georgius.
I get "within the most high room (chancellery?). From reading the other
entries, I think this is a job description of some kind.
Under Locus: I read " Ex Wericz". The script is poor and I'm not certain.
Also LDS have this book under Sv.Martina (part II) as a location. Does
anyone know what/where that is?

Thank you so much for your help,

Peter M.
