Carolyn, Keep in mind that in modern Slovak orthography the name is spelled Kerpc~ar. S~aris~ske Jastrabie is still filled with Kerpc~ar family. Curt B....

You could try Ch instad of H. My mother's maiden name is Chmela. Americans say it like Ka but Slovaks would say Ha. Or, Hr. I have ancestors named Hrdlovic....

Ellis Island records have five entries for the name Horocsak, which would be the Hungarian spelling of Horochak. Most of them were from Banocz (now Banovce)....
