Another instance of a film listings gone AWOL. I have an older print
out of the contents of Film #1793225 and 1793226. I kept it for future
research.

Reently, I ordered 1793225 (Petrikovce GC) and guess what? It's gone
from their listings. So is 1793226.

What gives?

I am back in town for a while. I sent the cataloger a note. I'll let you
know what's uncovered.

This is the same sort of problem as was identified on the Delphi site
for your Varhanovce GC query. It is in the same range of film numbers
as for 1794357, 1794358 & 1794359 that you were looking for and geismom
has on permanent loan but no longer catalogued.

It would seem that a portion of the catalogue went missing.

FHL already replied a minute ago. He was looking at these films yesterday
and was puzzled because they are now "de-authorized." He is meeting with
his supervisor tommorrow to see if there is any good reason not to
re-authorize them. The real questions in my mind are a) how big is the
extent of this omission (appears limited to Slovakia according to Shon) and
b)why did this happen to begin with/will it happen again. well, one thing
at a time.

I would like to hear about any other numbers missing, so we can pass them
along. I hate reporting them as we uncover them however. It's haphazard
at best, misleading at worst.

Apparently a new missionary was adding information to many catalog entries
and neglected to re-authorize them after the edits. They will go through
the un-authorized tomorrow and get things fixed. It was noticed by FHL
when they ran a report and noticed a lot of un-authorized records. I'll
get a note when it's fixed and pass it along. John, can you pass this info
on to the Delphi group?

FHL Responds (just now):
they're all re-authorized and should be available for ordering use
immediately. They should hopefully reappear on FamilySearch soon, as
well.

Dear Bill,

That is good news. Apparently LDS has a bureaucracy approaching that of US

As the message says, it may take some time propagate back to Family Search,
if in fact that is the tool you are using to locate the films.

Subject: FHL Digital Indexing Project to begin - Presov region is first!

Send Email Send Email

The FHL (Family History Library) informs me that they have been busy
digitizing microfilms (converting microfilms into files that are
computer-readable) from the PRESOV region. In a few short weeks, they
will be make those files available for general researchers (like you
and me) to participate in the indexing of these records.

Indexing involves reading the image (from the convenience of your home
or office computer) via the internet, and transcribing the data -
events, names, dates into a typewritten form. Once that data is
entered, the FHL will use it to create search-able indexes for
surnames, village names and other critical elements.

This is very exciting since it brings us much closer to the goal of
having the microfilm images available to us via the internet. This
"next generation" project is happening much faster than I imagined and
I am delighted to see it's progress.

If you want to get a feel for what the indexing project is like, or to
sign up now, go here http://www.familysearchindexing.org You will see
the many projects already underway, you can also register now and
download the necessary software.

Does anyone know how to transfer from a 8 track to a CD?
I was told it can be done but the quality would be bad.

I have some 8 tracks that I would like to transfer so I can play the CD's in my
car.

Thanks,

Ludovit,

The reason I tried is because I want to send that link to a friend in

There are country-specific google versions. Try www.google.sk.

I do not understand why you don't believe you can forward Slovak-world

Hello Christine,

I would like to see whole page(s) before commenting. I fear taking
something out of context. I'd like to see samples of those that have it

The notation you cite is not something we generally see, so it is likely
specific to this parish, or perhaps this parish priest. So understanding
trends is important when we have to deduce a hypothesis.

I prob. did not make myself very clear, I am sorry. What I did is this.

I went to the familysearch.org site and found that the records for Podolie,SK
were filmed. I printed that out. On that sheet toward the bottom are : Film
Notes.
For instance : inv.c. (with that little mark on top) 1800 Krysty 1705-1729 -
Umrtia 1705-1713 - Uzavrete manzelstva 1705-1728 - VAULT INTEL Film.
The next film has : inv.c. 1801,then : inv.c.1802 , inv.c.1803 and inv.c.1804.
Index numbers ? I thought maybe they meant the year 1800 ?
When I get the film, it will probably be explained. I am all exited about that
find!
Thank you for your quick reply.

Ben,
That is consistent with the film notes.
I've asked the cataloguer to comment. I will see how he responds.

Thank you Ben,
I bet that is what inv.c. with hacek stands for.
I'll wait for Bill's answer.

  Christine.

   Hello Bill,
I prob. did not make myself very clear, I am sorry. What I did is this.

I went to the familysearch. org site and found that the records for Podolie,SK
were filmed.

   Hello Christine,

I would like to see whole page(s) before commenting. I fear taking
something out of context. I'd like to see samples of those that have it
and those that do not. I'd like to know what period of time was involved.
The notation you cite is not something we generally see, so it is likely
specific to this parish, or perhaps this parish priest. So understanding
trends is important when we have to deduce a hypothesis.

Well, this is a good list of what they have in the archives, but it isn't
surprising.  These archives that were in that link are run by the national
government- the Section of Public Information.  However, all that information is
located in Bratislava and they give you the hours of operation at the top. :-)
Probably could call the phonenumber at the top also and ask if they can run some
copies for you.

Ben got it exactly correct.
The cataloguer responded:

"Yes, you’ve got it right. It’s an abbreviation for “inventory
number”. “Inv. č.” is used: 1) because it is in Slovak; 2) because
it is a standard abbreviation used by the microfilmers and all of our
operator reports, and by extension, probably the archives. "
