Betty and her SHIELDS family is descended from the Daniel and Mary [--?--] Shields, immigrant ancestors from Ireland to Hamilton Co. then Butler Co. and finally to Preble Co., OH and their son, Patrick Shields (1784 Ireland -1877 Darke Co., OH) and his 2nd wife, Selina (nee Freeman) Boyd-Shields.

DICKEY, Betty E. (Shields) age 81 of Brookville, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 16, 2009. Betty was born in Greenville, Ohio to the late Lester L. Sr. and Dovie (Shahan) Shields. Betty was a member of the Grace Brethren Church for many years where she served as church secretary, Sunday school teacher and superintendent, president of the Womens Missionary Council, and director of children and teen groups. Betty loved writing poetry, playing euchre, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Betty fulfilled her lifes mission of teaching her children and grandchildren the gift of eternal life. She leaves to cherish her memories her loving husband of 58 years: Don E. Dickey, daughter: Pamala Edwards of Trotwood, son and daughter-in-law: Don D. and Lynne Dickey of Brookville, brothers: Charles Shields of Greenville, Lester L. (Marilyn) Shields of Springfield, sister-in-law: Marilyn Shields of Brookville, grandchildren and their spouses: Shawnn (Matt) Stiers-Masincup of Staunton, VA, Jacob Stiers of Wilmington, NC, Jaime (Paul) Surber of Brookville, Michael (Cala) Dickey of Brookville, 8 great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. She was also preceded in death by her brother: David L. Shields and son-in-law: Robert L. Edwards. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 20, 2009 at the Kindred Funeral Home (400 Union Blvd., Englewood). Interment will follow the service at Royal Oak Memorial Gardens in Brookville. The family will receive friends on Monday, from 9:30 a.m. until time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Child Evangelism of the Miami Valley (3626 N. Main St., Dayton, OH 45405).
