GMO MEETING
From: "Label GMOs SF  - Liz, Frank, & Ben" <labelgmossf@...>

Subject: SF Meeting: Tues, 11/20 at Park (Haight) Library

Hi All!

We hope that you are all relaxing and feeling (mostly) recovered from the election!

We've set up a meeting for next Tuesday to debrief, regroup, and share some food, and hope you will join us! This meeting will be at the Park Branch library in the Haight, and we'll start with social/food time at 6:30, and then a group discussion around 7 or 7:15. As a note, the branch technically does not allow food in their meeting room, so please bring non-messy foods that can easily be cleaned up. Since it's a weeknight (and right before a holiday) please feel completely free to bring something very simple such as fresh fruit or veggies. We'll also have extra snacks, so please come at 6:30 even if you can't bring something. If you're on Facebook, please go ahead and RSVP here so that we have a sense of the group size: http://www.facebook.com/events/473571202682158/

Below is an adaptation of some objectives for the meeting suggested by Ben - hopefully this will help you get the idea of what we have in mind.
- (Re)Connect with each other!
- Debrief on what approaches we found to be successful and what we found to be counterproductive, and how each could be improved. This can help not only in GMO efforts, but also for any and all social activism.
- Discuss what we'd like to focus on next - educational efforts, outreach to local representatives, etc.
- Reflect on how our experience relates to broader issues around food, technology, and corporate control, and whether we'd like to include any of those issues in our mission going forward.

Note: If you have any leftover materials, please bring those so that we can consolidate them.

Also, we've heard a lot of talk about the outstanding ballots, but we wanted to let you know that each county is required to count all the votes and report those in by early December. It's very unlikely to change the outcome, however, since we'd have to get 1.1 million of the remaining 1.7 million uncounted votes. On the positive side, however, there are nearly 5 million "Yes" votes state-wide so far , and that number will undoubtedly continue to go up between now and early December.

Lastly, please sign these two important petitions:
...And join the Bay Area discussion group on Facebook if you use it: http://www.facebook.com/groups/347987861961217/

Thank you, and hope to see you at the meeting!

for the holidays,

let's gather, some items,
no need to submit original photos, just make a photo copy of your photos.   (I am not sure Dorleen has space for precious original photos....)

and submit it as a scrap book for Dorleen.

Think about it and I'll find a volunteer to put it in a box and deliver it to her.

I was thinking this is better than a private xmas card.

==
Dorleen always gives and never takes.

There are 3 items I know she loves to eat...

they are

organic...

watermelon
WILD grapes with seeds...(I was able to pick some for her)
apples

If you can draw that would be great

IMPORTANT WARNING (See article).

I'm sorry to hear this. I was hoping that Irish Moss itself wasn't bad for us, and that it was the extraction process (to make carrageenan) that caused the problems. But apparently not. Carrageenan is in many products, and Irish Moss is used in many raw vegan items.

Fresh choice has filed for bankruptcy.  They've closed 10 of their 56 restaurants, including, apparently, the one in Milpitas.  I don't understand this -- the Milpitas closing, that is -- because it is always busy.  Hopefully they will emerge from bankruptcy and go on, the way they did in 2006.

Here's another RAw event, unfortunately it's on the same night as SF Living Foods Holiday dinner.

My recommendations is have an earlier SF living Foods dinner,  WAlk 3 blocks to the BIG event below.  Bring cards and signs and have SF Living Foods represented (formally).

I was at the lst Annual event below and you'll see new (mostly younger) Living Food folks you never seen before!

In the future, SF Living Foods should be represented.
this is all my personal opinion since I think it's great to network with other Living Foods people/vendors.  It would be a shame not to attend since it's a big event that's only 10 min walk.  This is my personal opinion..   Thank you everyone for your hard work making SF Living Foods the oldest and best Living Foods organization in the World.

Got a guest in town from December 12 to 24 or longer, who you just don't have the space for where you live?

Our available 2-week sublet is centrally located to the entire East Bay, as well as super-easily accessible to the freeways and BART system.  This space is perfectly suited for a couple or a family.

We, the current regular residents, are two very happy people living in our residence.  While we are away, it could easily hold a couple and up to 2 children, given the different rooms.

You will be happy with the light, warm, pleasant, and simple interior, safe exterior, and excellent function of all lights, outlets, appliances, stove, hot water kettle, temperature regulation, toilet, sink, stove, and more.

There is a water filter for drinking purer water.  For the potential occupants, should they be interested in a raw food and juicing lifestyle, there is also a dehydrator, blender, and juicer.

Our home is it is pet-free and drug-free.

You might also like to know that since we have been living here this home has been vegan.

What we are asking for the 13 days is only $550 total (discounted from what our equivalent rent for the time period would be ($600)  And we are paying utilities, which would normally be about $75 for two weeks.

If you would like to extend your stay, we will be happy to talk with you about that.

We would ask that you water our plants in the upstairs and downstairs, and the two outdoor planters beneath the front windows.

We would like to meet you before we depart, and payment is also due before we depart.  Because we depart on December 11, payment is due on December 10.  At your appointment to see the space, please bring your means of payment.

We look forward to hearing from you soon and making your Holidays a little smoother.

Blessings,
Micha'el A. Bedar and Dr. Aumatma B. Shah

sweet, abundant and affordable

I've seen them at ASian Markets for 75cents a lb

These fruits do not have pests , so pesticides are never used.

Fertilizers are not necessary too.

==
Prickly pears are in season, they also are always organic, no need for pesticide, cause the pricks are their defense.

I've seen them 50cents from a Mexican market
up to $4 each from Whole Foods
