SFBUN is a group of families who unschool in the greater SF Bay Area. SFBUN’s mission is to provide in-person support to unschooling families, to create opportunities for unschoolers to play together, make new connections, develop close friendships, and enjoy the freedom of living an unschooled life.
SFBUN welcomes unschooling parents and their children, currently living in the Bay Area, from all across the unschooling spectrum - “whole life” or “radical” unschoolers, academic unschoolers, those who are transitioning into unschooling, either from school or homeschooling via curricula, those who are want to build friendships through regular face-to-face time with unschooling families, and those who like to hang out with unschoolers: in other words, mindful parents who treat children with respect, who listen to and enjoy being with their kids, and who understand that power over children is not necessary for learning.
We want people to be sure before they join SFBUN that what they are looking for is unschooling support from Bay Area unschoolers (as opposed to just general homeschooling support). If you’re brand new to unschooling, or not sure what unschooling is, we ask that before joining SFBUN, you read and learn as much as you can to see if unschooling and SFBUN are a good fit for your family:

If you are looking for information about general homeschool classes, field trips, or curricula, your needs would be better met on other lists such as SFBayHomeschool: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SFBayHomeschool/ or Bay Area Homeschool Field Trips (BAHFT): http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BAHFT
If you're looking for unschooling discussion, rather than an in-person support group, here are some options:
