Yep, that's about the way it happened, :-) It is nice,
this way I can wear viking garb and standard overdress
and chemise, and still be in persona. :-D

>yeah it turns out to look like a sack dress which is
the standard for viking children till about 3 or 4
years old. I liberated my mate from her irish family
and brought her to iceland so I all know about the
norse elopement process lol

Want to be scared? I just use the Rit dye remover... and they carry it
at the local Walgreens drug store down the street from me... and at the
Kroger's grocery near by... I'm beginning to think there is some kind of
insidious plot... I don't buy it *that* often!

Magdalena,

It's near the bottom of the list, after dress.jpeg and before
frenchgown.jpeg.

I'm not sure what order the documents and folders are in - it
certainly isn't alphabetic! It's past Zoe's folder, but ahead of
Kat's folder. It's a Word document, so it has the little W on the
icon.

So is this actually Simplicity 5359? I was down at Walmart and flipped through a
new halloween catalog and they had this one listed. There is also one for girls
the number is 5357. Since I then was talking with the salesperson about the
fabric I was getting I didn't flip through the catalog anymore to see if there
was a men's gypsie pattern.

Welcome, Amanda!
I'm over in Oaken Region.
Could you tell us a bit more what you mean by "Irish Dress?" Some
gentles think of a chiton or chiton-style garment, ( essentially a
large tube of fabric, brooched or pinned at the shoulders and leaving
the arms more or less bare) call it a bog-dress, and associate it
with Ireland; other people are referring to the Moy gown, which can
be seen at Kass McGann's site, and others say Irish Dress and mean
the Shinrone gown. And there may be others of which I'm unaware.

If you can tell us more specifically which style of Irish clothing
you mean?

I've been so Pennsic-focused, I haven't even thought of Wurm Wald,
but after I check a calendar, I'll let you know! :)

What a great use for all the old ones I have floating around, plus the ones AOL
kept sending us in the mail. Need any more?

Mundane stuff for me is cutting out nursing patterns so I can make some nursing
shirts, first kidlet I couldn't find anything to fit me and all the stuff I wore
then is long gone this time around, so nursing patterns and clothes here I come.

Talia, on my Pennsic.net message boards, it is rumored that there is
a misunderstanding/ miscommunication/ between the coopers and PV.
mind you, its mearly a rumor and it is a hugely possible that it is
untrue and completely fabricated.

I think there are several places online that show lucet stuff with some real
basic instructions, I will dig around in my links and post what I have. I
bought the lucet book put out by Lacis, runs around $12; I think the book
probably makes more sense to a right handed person, what instructions they have
for left handed are a little skimpy and were confusing in the second cord I was
trying. Of course I wonder how much of that is being more than a little
pregnancy brained right now. Okay a lot of pregnancy brained right now. ;o)

On inkle weaving one way to get an idea how wide your strip is going to be is to
gather together one layer of the threads going around the whole loom, basically
over the bar that has half of them running over while the other half run through
the thread heddles. One thing I found out rather quickly when my loom and a
friends was made that the thread used for the heddles does make a difference in
the width of the weaving, at least she was using something like a size 10
crochet thread and I was using about a size 1 or 3 and her first piece ended up
much narrow and tighter than my first piece did. Of course how tight we were
running our weft (?) threads may have had something to do with that. She may
have been drawing her's a lot tighter than mine was being drawn in the side to
side stuff.

Doing good with baby, nothing bad is showing up so far, of course I am still
worried about showing up with preclampycia again, but hoping that I won't have
that happen again. I have hit the all time low of absolutely hating yogurt, it
and cheese are about the only way I can get milk products in me and right now
yogurt is about the most disgusting food on the planet as far as I'm concerned,
even spinach hasn't hit that all time low yet.

Kathws
Leah sent on Wednesday, July 30, 2003
I just got my inkle loom and am getting used to one that doesn't shift and
fight me when I make stuff with it. I'm still getting used to just how many
threads will be needed to make something 2 or 3 inches wide. I want to make
a belt with it and I keep on getting it to thin.

Is there somewhere online that you can get lucet instructions?

How are you feeling with the baby? Sounds like everything is going good
except for the pre-baby jitters, which is normal.

Thanks Aspasia...Your explanation is one of the possible solutions I
have entertained, and it is helpful to see that others are doing it
that way...I may try a few variant methods and see which works out
best, but will continue to research. Hopefully I can find someone
who's had access to some extant gowns of this type and can pick
their brain for further info!

Thanks again!

ugghhh ::rolls eyes:: man. i know exactally what amanda is talking about.
she means the kind everyone sells as "irish dress". i've looked for
documentation and only found some sketches that sort of resembled it...
it's like... you wear an underskirt with a leine and it's like an overdress with
a split skirt, and the bodice laces up the front. then some of them have the
split sleeves for the leine sleeves to come out of the bottom... most are sold
sleeveless.
amanda, i think in the sketches i looked at ... it was pretty closeish, and
people would pull up the corners of the split overskirt and tuck them into their
belt (like a silk braid?) and expose the lining... but the sketches are iffy.
sorry i didn't save the link.

anyway, i wore that to my second (my last) event... it was a burgundy overdress,
natural leine, and plaid pleated underskirt. i did NOT feel out of place in it
(at all) and i'd say "go ahead". no one made nasty comments or anything. no
weird looks. ;)

Ha ha!! Yes, my local Long's Drugs carries a better selection of Rit
dye than Joann's or Beverly's! I don't know about insidious -- I
think it's more pathetic than anything... :-P

(Guess I'll have to check if Long's or Walgreens carries the dye
remover, too)

Let's see:

Chemo starts Monday. So I have a cross stitch that I will haul along
there - I have to be at the Infusion Center for 2.5 hours once every 3
weeks. Obviously this is a *low* priority project. ;-D

I have a client I'm doing a pseudo-LOTR/Theoden/outtamyhead outfit for -
working on the 2nd muslin for length check and final approvals. Obviously
*HIGH* priority.

Our local Ren Faire is Henry VIII - this year I will be going in Tudor, just
decided. Modifying a commercial pattern and working from there. Faire
starts the end of August. Middling priority.

Need to make my Lord a new linen surcoat (13th Century Hospitaller persona)
High priority, but lower than the client.

Barony has a demo in mid-Sept. The Tudor will work for that, but I need to
make stock for vending. This becomes #3, obviously.

PLUS - keeping house clean, and redecorating. Plus 2 dogs a cat, a slightly
feral kitten we are taming...plate is full thanks very much!

hi all, been away for a bit. Just wanted to share my sucess. I made
a elizabethan corset and it works! Much to my very pleased suprise:)
I followed the suggestions that I gleaned from here and I'm so
tickled. The grommet set that I picked up at Home Depot works
fantastic and the nylon/plastic boning I got from cheeptrims.com
worked very well (not that I have a lot to hold in and up but you get
the picture). It's a bit heavier than the stuff you can get in the
little Dritz packages. And I got 200 yards of it for not much.

So thank you ladies and gentlemen. I *finally* have the right
underpinnings, at least up top.

Hey Ro

What are the dates on the Maryland Faire this year? I found out LAST WEEK
about a shuttle service I could have used for going to Pennsic this year--I
think I need extra Ren Faire tix to soothe my wounded soul!

Boy, does ***that*** tune sound familiar! I've lost enough in the
past 12.5 months that altering *anything* is pretty much out of the
question... even some of my *chemises* are ridiculously huge!

Please tell me (offlist, so as not to disturb Holly) about your e-bay
adventures selling both slightly-used and never-worn garb: my beige
Tudor (worn twice) needs to go that route, and I think the pumpkin
silk-satin Venetian (never worn!) should probably do so as well. I'd
like to recoup at least my materials costs for the Venetian.

Sounds gorgeous :) I've done most of my 'Bethan underpinnings in
shades of pink, and I'm debating whether to do the first Margo gown
in deep rose or navy, both cotton twills. After I have a handle on
the pattern's fit, I'll dig into the mauvey-rose cotton jacquard and
the ivory cotton-acetate jacquard.

What I really want to do next, though, is find some time to mark out
a low-necked smock to embroider on my way to and from Virginia this
weekend (family wedding)...

Good lady ,if I may ask, which commercial pattern will you be modifying
and what mods. will they be? I am having a heck of a time getting a real
on target idea of how Tudors are put togeather,...1 piece or 2(actually
3 with the under skirt)and are the BOTTOMS of the bodices cut STRAIGHT
across, covering the skirt waistband, are they held down with hook &
eyes AT the waistband?
Thanks for your time and best wishes to you.

**laffs** sure. i figure if I get enough, when I actually get around
to making the thing (have the spandex for the bodysuit, at elast, so
far) I might jsut have enough for wings, too...useing 2nd hand
fishing poles for the veigns, if i can figure out how to do that.
For that matter, they would be great on the skirt of the "sunday
morning" late period I have partially cut out...pumpkin orange satin
bodice (yes, it's bridal style, it's supposed to be tacky) hot pink
skirt, and 8 of those wonderful, annoying, laser-iridescent
pinwheels to affix to the botton hem. I could use more cd's on the
rest of the skirt, and one on each breast in front. *grinz evily,
and ducks*
