Description

This group exists for the purpose of news and coordination relating to assisting members of the Society for Creative Anachronism affected by natural disasters, be it on the scale of a hurricane or a family whose home has been destroyed by fire.

This is NOT a "talk" list. Posts will remain strictly on topic, and those who violate this may find their posting privileges restricted--usually though not always with a prior warning.

Appropriate post topics include such things as:
-- news regarding a particular ongoing or anticipated disaster
-- news of the welfare of those affected
-- requests for aid, assistance, etc.
-- announcements of fundraisers for those in need
-- announcements of available aid such as "crash space", transportation, or other resources offered either by SCAdians or by outside agencies
-- expressions of gratitude by those who have been assisted by the members of this list
-- Policy statements by the Moderators (These will always have [MODERATOR] in the subject line.)
-- If in doubt, contact SCA-Disaster-Owner@yahoogroups.com, unless waiting would increase the danger or suffering of those in need. Use common sense.

Inappropriate posts include, but are not limited to: "spam" advertising, "introducing myself to the list" posts, criticism of how a particular government or agency prepared for or reacted to a particular disaster, event announcements unless it is in conjunction with a fundraiser for disaster victims, general chat, anything abusive, posts intended purely to express sympathy and sadness, anything a moderator declares officially "off limits!". Again, use common sense.

I realize this is a bit draconian, but this list is here to deal with urgent, time-sensitive matters, and I want those who subscribe to see every email that comes from this list as "important, must read now!" I realize especially that expressions of sympathy, sadness, etc. are very important: but they feed and house no one. Please, send them privately.
