1. We encourage you to participate in the Democratic Party's Neighborhood Leader/Precinct Captain Orientation
Thursday, July 23, 7-9 p.m.
at Democratic Headquarters, 402 E. Gutierrez.
You can use the parking lot at the rear of the building off of Olive Street and enter there. This is a great opportunity to learn more about city government issues, the Local Party's endorsed candidates, and how you can help with the fall campaign. A repeat of this Orientation will be held on Saturday, July 25, 3-5 p.m. at Democratic Headquarters. To sign up for either Orientation, go to www.sbdems.org/ and follow the links.

2. Please join Planned Parenthood and others in a phone campaign to the Governor demanding that he sign the budget now!
As you know, he has threatened to veto any budget solution that includes taxes, especially those to big oil and tobacco companies. We must tell him that we can't close the budget gap on cuts alone and solely on the backs of our children, our seniors, and our frail and disabled.

Here is the script:
"Hi, my name is ____________ and I am asking the Governor to sign a budget that includes spending cuts and new revenues. Shared sacrifice should not mean unfairly burdening the poor and underserved while letting big oil and tobacco companies off scot-free."
