Nephew:
SADA says there are no Afros, blacks, Negroes, Colors, Souls and etc in America.
These are the Africans who can be easily twisted into anything the whites and
their agents think is proper.
The name African Americans became an accepted norm when Jesse Jackson returned
from Abacha's Lagos, Nigeria in 1988 only to announce to the press that our name
should be "African Americans.". No explanation was given.
African came to the Americas under an unusual conditions and have done very well
under the chattel slavery laws of the several states of the USA. Their beings
were changed by methods more sinister, and more refined and dangerous than
anything else man's inhumanity against man has ever devised.
The Europeans having read the history of Slaves in Babylon, Roman Empire and
Egypt knew what to do to take the spirit of being a human out of us and they
succeeded because majority of our people are gullible and the fears they put in
our forefathers who came in 1619 were truly hateful.
And they have, most but not all accepted the ideas implanted in our minds that
"your people soul you" mentalities and therefore it is going to take real
education to bring our Africanity back.
The question is what will Chancellor Williams would have said on the issue you
have raised. Read The Destruction of the Black Civilization and the answer is
very clear.
We Blacks are Africans and all the distortions will not hold. The advocates are
so ignorant about Africa and ourselves that we should pity them. These lazy
White have created the Tarzan image and the jungle images of Africa and have
crowned them with the green monkey image.
Africa, the richest continent on earth is poor and all her children are
deserting her; especially those in Europe and the Americas. Do you know that
these ignorant Negroes are advocating a different race called Negro race.
Well, well, well; instead of all of us chipping in our might to combat racism,
discrimination and etc that we have experienced in the West, we are so
comfortable with our status that most Negroes are sleeping because all is well.
In fact we have been degraded to the extent that Africans did better under
chattel slavery systems than now. The gap between the rich and the poor is so
wide now that it is a shame to even know it.
We are Africans but the Europeans and Arabs will continue to distort our
mentalities so that they can continue to use us as fetchers of water and hewers
of wood. It is a shame.
The thing is this, Africa is changing so rapidly that if the Negroes continue
tarzan image of Africa and not to claim their natural right of being part of
Africa as advocated by Africa Union under the Six Region, our descendants will
suffer more so than now. Mis- education of the Negroes is at its height in 2012
on.

Hi,
This discussion reminds me of when we starting saying, "I'm Black
and I'm proud." My grandmother said, "I'm proud, but I'm not Black." It took
my mother the longest time to say she was Black or African American, but it's
routine for her now. Where we have trouble is when she says someone has "good"
hair. IMHO, any hair that stays on your head is good.
The point is that we have American/west European names, so we don't
have the same link to Africa that Italians, eastern Europeans, or Asians have
because of their last names, so we identified ourselves as Black or
African-American. Haters wanted to make color/genealogy/biology our weakness,
and we made it our strength.
There are two facts to deal with here. First, most of have never
been to Africa—so it's not about that, and second is that most of America is a
hyphenated society. So the homework assignment for our young people is to have
them observe their young, non-minority friends. When their friends are asked
about their heritage, how do they identify. Is it in a hyphenated way, e.g.,
Italian American, Polish American, German American, or just as an American. You
start your conversation with them about identify, history, and truth after
they've completed their homework assignment. I think our young people also need
to study ALL of Africa's history. It's not whatever they think it is.
What our young people need to understand is that there's power in
determining what people call you. (Sort of like the movie, In the Heat of the
Night, when Sidney Poitier said, "they call me MISTER Tibbs.")
Have a blessed day everybody.

I hope this note finds you in good health & spirits.
Hello All,
First of all, that was the lamest article with the cheesiest photo I've read so
far in this young year.
The author, a James Johnson, is a poor writer and a worse journalist. He doesn't
back up his claims with any sources or citations. He places a supposition upon
the one referenced person, Dave Mathews, without getting any quote from him.
Where I come from that's called passing judgement.
Those "...Black Americans who were born in the United States simply don't hold
any historical relevance to their families home in Africa..." because they
simply don't know their history!
How can the "black business owner.. and ... entrepreneur" who started the
Facebook page 'Don't Call Me African American' be respectfully called anything
if he/she does not tell us his name?
There are too many African Ancestored, Afro-Americans, and African Americans who
DIED just so I can have the right to speak and walk in freedom. I choose to not
disrespect their memory by giving any credence to James Johnson's unwise notion.
I don't see my Ancestors reflected in his article.
Jus' sayin'
George
Peace & Blessings,

I hope others will jump in to keep this discussion moving.
I suppose the oldesters among us need to fine tune the listening skills.

Timely article. Had a conversation with my grand daughter a couple of days ago
about this issue. She is adamant that she is not African, she is American. She
knows that our ancestors came from Africa, (but then it appears that all humans
came from Africa) but feel no connection to Africa; Ameirca is her home. My
feeling was that while she is right, I do not want to deny my heritage. I much
prefer Black American.
