Subject: Beltaine Thanks
nytshaed1967
Send Email Send Email

(please note some of the below is aimed at guild folks, apologies to those who prefer to be free agents, but I wanted to thank you too!!)

At Beltaine we delivered taxes, held a treasure chest tourney, and just had a busy great time!

We had some great fighting in the Treasure chest tourney and I want to thank every one of you for coming out either as fighters or Marshals.  It was important to Alfar and Ketiley that rapier fighting be encouraged at their Beltaine and I really had a good time getting on the field personally.  On a related note Alfar is making inquires about adding 30 feet to the end of the Eric at June Crown specifically for a dedicated rapier area where we can fight all through the event without imposing on other folks schedules.  It is NOT a done deal and may not occur, but I cannot tell you how much I miss having Camp erics where we could do impromptu lessons, pickups, scenarios with constructed obstacles, and the like.  PLEASE remember to keep a period appearance on the Eric.  Don't leave waterbottles visible, if at all possible cover your modern bags with a cloth, etc.  I will try to get some Haybales out there for scenarios and seating and sadly my favored technique of buildings made of rebar and tape is right out.

I want to especially thank Ximon for stepping up and helping the preparation happen and Santiago for both prep and the execution of delivering Taxes.  I was still helping our new arrivals when court started and barely hit the Eric when we were actually called and I am very grateful we had a backup plan in place for just such an occurance so we did not make everyone at court wait.  Uther was very kind with his leading question for us and I do hope everyone appreciated his smooth invitation for me to speak up as the LGm despite my tardiness.

I would love to keep delivering taxes, but I won't let the entire burden fall on just a couple people, so if you personally want taxes to continue I need to have some donations in hand by June crown.  If you'd like to be part of the effort but would prefer some direction on what to make or do I am more than happy to work with you to find a low impact contribution that suits your strengths.  Taxes should be a very small thing from a lot of people so no one person feels it, like a buck or two from several folks collected into a gas card or a small cloth bag to carry other royal largess.

I will be at June crown and if we have enough interest I will set it up for Purg, if not I will set another deadline for October crown to deliver at 12th night.  We can then discuss or drop the matter at the Guild meeting at 12th Night.

Lastly I want to thank all of you who's ears I have been chewing off about how to best make the guild flourish.  I have had several people flat out tell me that we should consider disbanding and I take that advice to heart.  However, ultimately the only requirement by our charter is the promotion of the Arte as a whole and its participants specifically through running Prizes.  While I personally want our extended family to talk, meet, and do other stuff together like taxes, the website, feasts, etc.  The chartered purpose is going quite well and I am thrilled with the prizes being played so I don't see the guild going away any time soon, but some of the extra bits may get a bit less attention unless we have some folks who want to take them on.

Thank you for a great event and for reading a LOT longer thank you than I intended,

Nytshaed

This list currently requires approval by a moderator for new members.
While this is not a huge delay and it can protect us from spammers I was
thinking about removing this restriction.

   Any strong opinions either way?

As the current owner/moderator of SCA-West I can tell you that leaving
that restriction on is a good thing. Admittedly I'm generally close
enough to a system on regular enough basis that nobody has to wait for
long to be approved for the list and it stops SPAMMER's well. Once a
yahoo list gets on the radar for a SPAMMER they just don't let up.

And since the traffic here isn't really 'critical' in terms of the
information being posted here I don't see the trade off really worth it.

I'd rather you didn't. I don't mind spam when I'm camping, but I prefer to keep it out of my inbox.

Folks who are joining the guild list will know they need to give a little time for approval, and hopefully they're in it for the long haul, so the wait shouldn't be a deal-breaker.

My two pence,
Brendan

No strong opinions.  But if the moderator is able to review the requests in a timely manner and it keeps the list from being spammed, I would keep the approval requirement.

A very quick and simple question – do you know of any fencers from the West going to Pennsic this year AND specifically any Guild members

I arrive early in the first week should anyone be there early too and wants to play

Look for me with the zweihander in the Bloodguard colours – or listen for the Aussie accent outside the Lochac encampment

Volunteers on bringing items for display as well as spending time with the

Subject: [RoyalGuildofDefense] 12th Night Guild Table

Since we did not have one last year, I'd like to see one happen this year. Info on 12th Night has been spotty this year so I will drop the autocrat a note and ask about Guild tables and their location.

Volunteers on bringing items for display as well as spending time with the table?

It would be GREAT to have the new, official device on something we could use as part of our display. Has anyone made one for use? Or would anyone like to volunteer.

  Greeting good gentles!

12th Night Coronation is nearly upon us and the guild sponsored Rapier table is in need of COOL STUFF!

If you can bring a couple books, a spiffy gorget or other armor bit(especially if you made it) it would help alot.

If you are able to sit the table for an hour or so please sing out as we will not be leaving anything exposed to theft so it really can't be displayed without folks being there.  And as always this is about Rapier fighting, sure guild info is good, but if you choose to not be part of the guild you are still welcome at the Rapier table and even welcome to volunteer for a shift talking about rapier information rather than guild info would be great.

 Thank you for reading!

Nytshaed, LGm

PS - please contact Brigit or drop a note here if you can take a shift.

Wondering if anyone has done a banner or flag with the new Guild device on it?
Would be nice to have it for the display.

We've been given a table for 12th Night to display Guild information and items
of interest to fencing.

Now I need items!

Books, especially manuscripts of historical masters, photos (be sure to label
yours on the backs), swords, doublets and other gear--whatever will make it look
interesting.

I also need volunteers. I'm thinking to only man the table for perhaps three or
four hours tops--and am looking for folks who wouldn't mind sitting the table
for no more than an hour at a time. I know we all have committments at this
event.

There will also be an area set aside for actual fencing. Not sure who the RMiC
is for this--anyone? After the fencing, the area will be used for a Memorial
for Crimson.

Thanks!

Nyteshaed--

When is the Guild meeting at 12th NIght planned for and where? The autocrat has
told me a room is being set aside for fencing--and then for a couple of hours
that room will be used for Crimson's Memorial (probably 6 or 7ish--stay
tuned)--will we be meeting in there earlier? I'm hoping it doesnt happen at the
same time as Crimson's Memorial.

What are the plans?

Brigit
