Wallman Curry Gulch trip report   Message List
Reply Message #41 of 70 |
Norman Singley and Alden Wright left the Rattlesnake trailhead at 9:40. There
was an inch of fresh snow which covered up the icy spots. The first two and a
half miles was nice track skiing. On the way up the Wallman trail, there were a
couple bare spots, one long enough that I took off my skis and walked over it.
The snow was caking up on the bottom of Norman's skis which actually helped him
get up the steep stretches more easily than I did. The ski down the other side
was fun with each of us falling a couple of times. In the meadow coming down to
Spring Gulch I hit a big dip and took a grand face plant. We skied down Spring
Gulch, then up the Curry trail past the cabin to the base of the "Trail of
Tears". On the fenceline trail there was actually the opportunity to do some
downhill turns---although neither of us is a telemarker. The Turkey trail
included a nice very fast straight downhill. We had more nice meadow skiing to
get to the Sawmill Trailhead. The single-track paralleling the road was almost
as fun as it is on a mountain bike.

Total distance: 15 miles with about 2500' elevation gain in about 5 hours.
There are two pictures posted in an Yahoo group album.
