As many of you know, the Rivett library is a set of 4 CDs which contains an enormous amount of information on the Rivett model 608 lathe and its predecessors, as well as Rivett bulletins on their model 500, 505, and 507 lathes. A good deal of historical information on the Rivett Company is also included.
The Rivett library CDs have been distributed at cost of materials and mailing for the last few years. However, this method of distribution has proven less than ideal for a variety of reasons. So, we have now arranged for a more efficient method of sharing this important and scarce information.
As of yesterday, the entire Rivett library (nearly one gigabyte of data) has been posted on the New England Model Engineers Society (NEMES) web site. To view it, go to
http://neme-s.org/Shaper%20Books/shaper_book_page.htm
and click on "Rivett Lathes".
The best way to start is to then click on "Section 4" which takes you to Disk 4 of the library. Open Disk 4 and go down to to the third item from the bottom which is "Rivett literature on . . . [Disk 4]". This is a list of the library's contents.
Something else worth noting is that when the Rivett library disks were originally prepared, a number of the pdf document files were also included again (redundantly) as jpg images. The idea at the time was that having the individual pages/photos in the jpg format would provide greater flexibility in using the library's contents. So, if you want to read, print or send an entire document, just go to the pdf version.
As you wander through the library, be mindful that the information it provides would not be available were it not for the efforts of Steve Uphill who did the lion's share of the work to keep this information in circulation. Thanks are also due to Errol Groff, the NEMES webmaster, who generously agreed to host the library and contributed the 10 hours of upload time required.
