"The Afrikan American community, given its current disposition, is in
need of new categories of self representation, of a new
representation of the world. If it is to change for the better; to
realize its potential; to achieve liberation, then it must change the
perception of reality it has received from its exploiters. It must
name the unnamed. By changing its self-perception from that of
perceiving itself as a sheer conglomeration or aggregation of self-
centered individuals -- united only by their common misery,
victimization, and skin color to that of a nation united by an
Afrikan-centered consciousness and identity -- the Afrikan American
community can change for the better the organization and nature of
the social world which now contributes to its unseemly reality."
