ResearchEthics is an independent e-forum for ethical research, writing and publishing practices. It has been set up by an informal group of professionals who believe in the free and unhindered flow of ideas and information in the public domain, provided always that due acknowledgement is given. The increasing instances of plagiarism by academics, action-researchers and students is of grave concern. There is also a lack of information and awareness of the ethical and legal aspects of plagiarism, the taking of another’s work, ideas, expressions and language, and passing it off as one’s own.
ResearchEthics seeks to:
- Support good practices in research, writing and publishing; circulate guidelines on proper referencing; work towards establishing university policies on plagiarism, and voluntary codes of conduct for professional groups;
- Expose, record and maintain a public archive of plagiarism at all levels, especially by reputed scholars, writers, and internationally-established authors;
- Provide a network of support and counsel for researchers, activists and others whose work has been plagiarised; document experiences and articles related to fighting plagiarism;
- Strengthen awareness of the moral and legal aspects of plagiarism and copyrights; and of avenues of redressal; collate relevant information on copyright laws; list names and contact addresses of the members of the Indian Copyright Board; list free legal aid sources etc.
Membership and postings require approval. No anonymous members whatsoever.
