I know this is not dance related but maybe one of the dancers know someone who would like to help us out. The camp is in Grenta Glen so it is not far. They also have a evening of dance so you could also help out there.
As most of you know, Reggie and I (as well as Eileen Hudicka) volunteer at the American Cancer Society's Camp Can-Do. August 4-11, we're there with childhood cancer patients. It's incredibly fulfilling -- and lots of fun.
One of the highlights of camp is music. For several years, a great guy has travelled from California with his guitar - just to keep us singing and laughing. Unfortunately, he can't make it this time. Spending the week without song would be almost unbearable, so we're seeking a music-maker. If you know ANYONE who would like to spend a VERY rewarding week with some incredible kids, PLEASE let me know asap.
If anyone interested in doing a demo with this person or do you know of anyone who would like to do this with her for Lancaster USA dance demo's. The dates are:

Dave and Eileen have an interesting and fun venue for you dancers out there.
HOLLYWOOD ON THE ROOF (which isn't on a roof, but on the main floor) at the Hollywood Casino (off of I81, and attached to Penn National Race Course)
HOLLYWOOD ON THE ROOFis bringing in live entertainment Thursdays, Fridays and Saturday nights. A lot of them are names I remember from all those years of me doing this newsletter. Rock-n-Roll, Swing and Country.
Last weekend, a few of us met out there for Danny & the Jr's. It was jammed with people (they advertised it on the radio and this band is the group that did "At the Hop" back in the very early 60's.) But they have a decent , clean dance floor. It wraps around the stage area and although it isn't big, we had about 10 couples on the floor with comfort. The crowds crowding in to just watch made it somewhat uncomfortable for us , but we don't expect this mass of people to come for the local groups. So we do really recommend this place. The entertainment is FREE, the parking is FREE and the room is smoke free (and they do a good job of keeping it that way) but you will have to go through the smoking section of the casino to get to it (hold your breath). Oh, there seemed to be a free soda machine outside the band area!!! At least I didn't see anyone putting in coins, or card, to fill up their cups and no one was there to take money!
Tomorrow night is a group Dave and I had danced to for years. "Burning House" They do a little Rock-n-Roll, a little Mowtown and throw in a little Santana. But their second set is more County Rock. All in all, they are very danceable.
We will definitely be there for this Friday night. But if you want to dance Saturday, this weekend they have "Full Tilt" with they advertise as a "Motown Dance Band".
Their hours are below. If you can't make it this weekend, I promise to let you know what their scheduled bands are for the future, or go to their web site at http://hcpn.com/entertainment/ You will get directions there too.
Here is their schedule for the next month:
Thursdays 7 - 10 pm February 26 All Up On It - (Blues Funk Band) March 5 Pub Rally - (Classic Rock) March 12 Restless - (Top 40) March 19 Leghorn - (Country) March 26 Flashback - (Classic Rock)

With Nationals only 6 weeks away I'm sure you are all wondering what is happening. Well a lot.
Registration is proceeding but for everyone who has not yet registered please remember that the deadline is March 7. That's only 2 weeks away and in order to avoid paying any late fees, you must be registered and paid up by that date. You are not completely registered and entered until you are paid up.
Many of last year's championship couples have split and so we can anticipate some very exciting finals with new champions in almost all Adult, Youth and Junior II events. If anyone has the answer to why so many couples split this year, please let me know. I'd really like to avoid putting whatever was in the water, in the water again.
On the social dance schedule there is an entire social program that includes social dances on Friday and Saturday, a Saturday Lunch Harbor Dance Cruise, admission into the workshops and special reserved seating during the evening session. Please order your ticket soon to be guaranteed a spot.

Carrie Ann Inaba -
To everyone who was wondering what Carrie Ann Inaba will be doing at Nationals, please read Peter Pover's letter to the athletes posted below:
"In addition to all of the major Championships, Workshops and social events the 2009 USA Dance Nationals will explore a new major initiative in the critique of DanceSport and its public appeal.
USA Dance is proud to announce that Ms Carrie Ann Inaba, the celebrity judge of ABC-TV's Dancing with the Stars, has graciously offered to assist in the first stages of the review by USA Dance of competitive ballroom dancing in the modern era. Her input will be outside that of the traditional judging panel, and will be focused on aspects of performance and personality that may escape normal judging standards. USA Dance will present awards to couples being judged successful in these areas. In addition, Ms Inaba will conduct a Master Class for top USA couples entitled "The elusive factor of stardom."
USA Dance President, Peter Pover, in welcoming Ms Inaba's commitment, said that her experience and reputation provided an opportunity for the first time to create a bridge between ballroom dancing and the wider dance community. Ms Inaba expressed excitement at the opportunity, and that she was honored to be invited. She added that the opportunity for a two way exchange of ideas, and that the dedication and discipline of DanceSport couples could provide a good example to dancers in other disciplines."
Allen Bentley For the first time ever, our program cover creator will be at Nationals. Allen Bentley, the artist, (or his representative) will be at Nationals selling his paintings, charcoals and maybe even a limited edition print of the cover, some of whose proceeds may go to supporting DanceSport. The cover painting is a beautiful rendition of a couple dancing and worth putting on any dance fancier's wall. The gallery representing Allen Bently is the Bridgette Mayer Gallery.
NQE Circuit & Regional Team Match
The NQE Circuit, which was started in order to thank those couples that have supported our regional events by attending more than one NQE, is turning out to be quite successful. We currently have one couple who has reached the Emerald Tier by attending 5 NQEs and we have 4 couples who have reached the Ruby Tier by attending 4 NQEs. There are 12 couples who have attended 3 NQEs and with just one more NQE could reach the Ruby Tier.
Regional Team Match invitations have gone out, and many of the Teams are set or waiting for one or two more couples to respond. Sunday looks to be jam packed with great competitions. Between the Adult 10-Dance event, the Pre-Teen Gold events, the Senior II Championship Standard event and our brand new event, the Regional Team Match, Sunday will be a very exciting ending to our weekend.
I hope to see everyone in Baltimore,
Daphna Locker, Chair 2009 National Organizing Committee
