Looks like a great event in Sedona AZ.  Buses are going from major cities but I think ones are needed for Portland and Seattle as we need to see the sun more.

I have weekly guitar lessons with Timmer Blakely who plays in Frankie and the Stingers the Cascadia Blues Asso. winners for the International Blues contest. I was happy to hear that one of Timmer's favorite competitors at the contest was "The Schall Adams Band".

The results have not yet been posted but you can hear Schall at

and Frankie and Timmer at

Have a great day!

For those of you that don't know, Schall was a raw food chef that worked at
Thrive restaurant in Seattle (among other things).

buy low sell high is easier said then done.

It is something my father taught me in my formative years.  I bought my first stock at 12, used savings and borrowed money to put my self through college without working during the school year.  I also managed money for friends and family.  I don't recommend it.  People are strange especially about money.

Still, I feel strongly that toxic "mainstream" lifestyle needs to be directed towards a vegan diet, walking and biking instead of cars and planes, building community and cooperation instead of competition and isolation.  So I am going to help people invest if they are willing to put their after tax profits towards one or more of these goals.   More information coming later...

Hello everyone. I'm new to vegan raw foods. Would like to get any tips on how
and where to get organic vegan produce for inexpensive prices. Whole foods and
New seasons stores are pretty expensive, and I also won't like to go to
different stores only to get cheaper prices on different foods. Thank you. Alex

Hi Jane,

I could offer some tips!

I visited the new SE location of the Portland Juice Press last week, they have an impressive selection of juice blends! I also love the Kure Juice Bar.

I carry many different styles of juicers, the best one for you depends on the types of foods you will be juicing.

The best juicer that will juice all types of foods, including leafy greens and wheatgrass, is the single auger slow juicer.

I prefer the Omega or Hurom brands.

These juicers spin at 80 revolutions per minute (RPM), which do not oxidize or heat the juice.

The centrifical style juicers spin at 14,000 RPMs. They are faster but create a lower quality juice.

I recommend the Omega juicers, model 8004, 8006, and VRT350. I also love the Hurom juicer, which is the same as the Omega VRT.

I prefer the Hurom over the VRT because it has a better appearance, and is $21 less expensive.

I have these juicers listed on my site at
http://www.therawdiet.com/juicers1.html

There are some local juice experts here in Portland:

Author Dr. Steven Bailey leads annual juice fast cleanses-

Next juice fast begins April 18, 2013.

Andy Williams completed a one year juice fast! He has written about it on his facebook page:

That's right--I use the Breville when I want a lot of juice in a hurry, have piles of big stuff like cucumbers, celery, apples, carrots, daikon, and beets which I can throw in whole. It's not as efficient as the Hurom or Omega Vert, which I use when I want maximum nutrition from greens and a more meditative connection with my finished juice.

I support a family of four on one income, sometimes you can only do the best you
can do. So, I shop at Winco, they carry some organic produce and I buy that when
I can. Organic is hands down better, but if you canˇŻt afford it, my view is
that itˇŻs still better to be eating whole fresh apples that were sprayed with
pesticide, than eating processed corn product that was also sprayed with
pesticides at some point.

I wish you all the luck with your new lifestyle!! ˘ľ

Hands down get a Hurom!! I've owned a Breville, but after buying a Hurom I'll
never buy any other brand! The pulp is so dry, and the juice's flavor is so much
stronger with the Hurom.

Hi Mike,

One more reminder that “GreenSmoothieGirl” Robyn Openshaw is coming to Washington and Oregon THIS WEEK, the only time in 2013! Robyn has never been to Eugene before and wants you to know she is excited to meet GreenSmoothieGirl readers there.

In each of the classes, we’ll be giving away a $435 Blendtec Total Blender that Robyn calls â€the best thing I own,’ plus lots of other stuff you can read about HERE. Eugene being a small town, it will be a small group, so your odds of winning will be much higher in that class!

I have attended this class several times, and I think you will be very glad if you come. Bring your family who needs a message of hope, simple habits back to health, and inspiration! One of the things we hear most after the lecture is, “I wish my daughter/husband/friend had been here!”. If you haven’t heard Robyn's inspiring lecture about hope and healing through a shift to whole foods, or if you would like to invite friends, FREE tickets are available here:

Springfield/Eugene - Thursday, April 18th at 7:00 pm. Click HERE for tickets.
Vancouver/Portland - Friday, April 19th at 7:00 pm. Click HERE for tickets.
Seattle - Saturday, April 20th at 11:00 am. Click HERE for tickets.
Bellingham - Saturday, April 20th at 7:00 pm. Click HERE for tickets.

See you soon---please spread the word. Many thanks for your efforts to help others hear our message of empowerment and wholeness!

For those with issues regarding money.... please forgive me.  It is the current system and it is one way to get access and temporary control of land to plant a food forest and create useful spaces for improving our world.  It seems to be my path and I want to walk the path with others.

This is my third time working to develop a small ecovillage in the Portland/Clark County WA area.  For me it is a practice.  To raise money for initial capital I have three plans:

1. arm chair investors with $100 or more - lets call them PrimeI's (pronounced Prime Eyes)
2.
arm chair investors with $5,000 or more - lets call them PrimeB's (pronounced Prime Bees)
3. Working 'investors' who will invest their time, energy, creativity and wisdom.
- lets call them PrimeWii's (pronounced Prime Wees) see my ad on CL

http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/dmg/3750428062.html

The Prime Bees are ready to go.  A good opportunity at a wise price is NOW!  The Prime Bees first need to set up an account at firms that can handle their investment.

Prime Eyes are on hold perhaps for a while.. markets are very challenging to predict... :>)

The Prime Wees are getting ready to participate in a Organic Rawfood business venture, some of the skills needed are:

Chef/kitchen skills
Marketing/contact/promotional skills
Internet/Social Media skills
Graphic Design/ web design skills
Bike or auto delivery skills
Farming/gardening skills to grow/harvest the ingredients for the products.

The idea is that we work together to get "free" of the Military/Auto industries/Oil industries by investing/creating a right livelihood doing:

1. food forest gardens
2. natural buildings for residences/ work and recreation
3. community for spreading the knowledge of the above two far and wide.

My thoughts were to plan for this business for a few years but recently I found a commercial kitchen available for rent and I am going to start renting it at the end of May.  My business model is 'a worker cooperative'...

Please tell me which areas you are qualified PI, PB or Pwee for and what experience you have in these areas in a brief half to one full page worth of text.

If you feel a 'calling' to participate together in any of these three areas please contact me.  Serious inquires only please...

Hello Bill,

I'm intrigued by this ecovillage.  A bit about me:

Now in my mid-50s, ready to power down a bit on the competitive lifestyle I sought for years, I have a decade and a half's experience with raw food prep.  That includes over a half-year running Gabriel Cousens' greenhouse at Tree of Life, where among other duties I redesigned the physical structure of his greenhouse, cultivated wheatgrass, taught guests vermiculture and how to sprout.

With a master's and a law degree obtained in mid-life, I also have strong education/writing/marketing skills and a thorough understanding law's role in capitalism.

I moved to PDX last August when my kid got a full scholarship to Reed College.  I am considering staying on, if I can find a way of living/place to live that is satisfying.

FYI - I'd be a wee and eye at this point.

Jaina

Hello Jaina,

Welcome to the NW. Congratulations on your young adult getting a scholarship to
Reed a very nice school.

Because you are new to the area, you may not have seen my previous emails. I am
looking to develop a community of like minded people to purchase and develop
property into a "Real" ecovillage. One with work and living spaces so that
human beings can realize more of their potential by being able to walk and
safely bike more.

I have over 10 years experience doing Earthworks, permaculture and Food Forest
Gardening. I have been actively promoting healthier living for over 20 years.

If you do not have the patience, persistence or wisdom for this type of project
you may want to explore existing groups like Colombia Ecovillage, FosterVillage,
Kailash Ecovillage, Trion Creek Community, etc.

Thank you for your interest.

Bill

Thank you so very much for reading...

Bill, yup, Reed's a sweet spot (minus the booze and pot....)

Thanks for the welcome.  Here's the scoop:

I do not want to join an already-established eco-village; the only one that seemed feasible economically (Kailash) was not my cup of tea.  I don't need housing immediately, either.

Patience and persistence are my specialties.  I like to think wisdom is as well.  My bugaboo is time however:  I'm always running short of it for what I'd like to accomplish.  So unless I could see a clear barter, a current-moment exchange for whatever skills I could donate ---and they are many, from accomplished vermiculture to legal prowess (worms to worms, with superb kale chips on the side) --- I'd be hesitant to invest time at this point.

So I'm trying to get a clearer sense of what stage you're at, what you're looking for besides investors?  Perhaps investors are really all you need at this point?

Hello Jaina,

Welcome to the NW. Congratulations on your young adult getting a scholarship to Reed a very nice school.

Because you are new to the area, you may not have seen my previous emails. I am looking to develop a community of like minded people to purchase and develop property into a "Real" ecovillage. One with work and living spaces so that human beings can realize more of their potential by being able to walk and safely bike more.

I have over 10 years experience doing Earthworks, permaculture and Food Forest Gardening. I have been actively promoting healthier living for over 20 years.

If you do not have the patience, persistence or wisdom for this type of project you may want to explore existing groups like Colombia Ecovillage, FosterVillage, Kailash Ecovillage, Trion Creek Community, etc.

Thank you for your interest.

Bill

Jaina:

Interesting... I would love to join an existing eco-village but there are non I can afford right now or that have the size and diversity I want.  Not sure how far I will get with the "creating one" but it is a 'practice'.

Glad to hear you have wisdom, patience and persistence!  We have all the time in the universe (eternity) if you believe like I do in re-incar...  so what we start and do not finish in this life on this planet we can continue next lifetime on the next planet (I am hoping for a gentler, kinder populated one...).

If you have some do-re-mi email me off list.  If you want to be part of the wholesale organic raw food mfg'er email me off list. Otherwise what good are your talents to me if you don't have the time to use them?

I want to form community, draw up agreements, purchase land.

The lowest price useable land I have seen is $47,000 for a 9k sq. ft. lot in S.E. Portland.  We need at least half of the purchase price to purchase unless the seller will do a contract.  My plan now is buy something like that.  Build a 'shed' or two, plant and nurture a food forest. Then sell it to someone and repeat the process.  I do not want to do it all nor do I want to hire everyone.  I want "partners" in every sense of the word.  When I have the natural building skills and $$ to buy a lot for myself in SE near People's co-op or NE near Alberta co-op I might retire and call Portland my "eco-village' or by then we may have a community of people interested in developing a 'seed' ecovillage locally like Dancing Rabbit or Breitenbush Hot Springs etc.  My goal is to go carless.  Walk and tricycle most of the time.  If you want details of my first two projects let me know or come visit my urban farm.

Tell me more what you are willing to do and what you want to create and why.

Have you read "The Fifth Sacred Thing" by StarHawk?

Namaste

Bill

Chef gave one day notice yesterday.  It is not a vegan or raw place but they used to make a vegetable soup once a week and I would like to see a vegan soup once a week.... :>)

Bill
Call me for further details if you want to pursue this job opening.  You would cook some each week and handle all the ordering and oversee prep for banquets.

Our dear friends and neighbors Jaime and Anjou's beautiful home on their date farm in Niland California has been destroyed completely by fire. These two have been organically farming dates in the community for years and are active with the raw food and Rainbow communities as well. They have given so much as friends and neighbors and we now ask for you to help them in ANY way you can. PLEASE send funds in the firm of check or money order to Jaime Jones PO BOX 808 Niland, CA 92257. I was working on getting another option going for people who wish to donate with credit cards... I found this ad on Craigslist so I want to share...

http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/vol/3839329203.html

The West Columbia Gorge Humane Society's Board of Directors is an all-volunteer board comprised of residents from the local community.

WCGHS is looking to add four additional board members to our organization. Individuals who can bring specific expertise in key areas are needed to provide oversight and support of the organization's activities.

A key asset of a prospective board member is the established relationships that person has in the community and can use to assist WCGHS accomplish its goals. This could be access to community leaders and groups, influential individuals, grassroots organizations, or government contacts. WCGHS especially looks to the ability of each board member to provide relationships that aid in raising life-saving funds.

As a working board, expectations differ slightly than a governing board and one can expect to actively participate in the organization's work. Board members should be able to commit the time necessary to responsibly fulfill their commitment to WCGHS. This includes board training, analyzing financial statements, reviewing board documents before board meetings, attending board meetings, serving on committees, attending fund raising events, and occasionally assisting at the shelter among other responsibilities.

WCGHS is currently recruiting for the following board positions:

IT/Technology:

  • Oversee all IT related business processes and procedures including access control, server management and support, desk-side PC support, application management, problem and incident management
  • Manage creation and administration of user accounts and the administration of security access to networked data
  • Develop processes/procedures for common/recurring tasks and incidents related to databases and software applications
  • Assess new technologies for features and weaknesses and advise on best solutions for WCGHS

If you are interested in filling one of these positions, please visit http://wcghumanesociety.org/volunteer/board-recruitment/.

Many of us have enjoyed the Blossoming Lotus restaurant in Portland OR and these people started the restaurant (see email from Bo below).

If your calling is not to support "humanity" with money then I recommend donating time to outreach.  Perhaps leaflet for Farm Sanctuary (there new booklet "Something Better" is excellent and talks about the environmental impact, health and animal rights) or Vegan Outreach (they have many booklets and a support group email list).  Outreach in my humble opinion is very important to stay motivated and to remind ourselves of the importance of our daily decisions on our health, on our environment, on our animals and our poor people of the earth.  Outreach and staying vegan are also excellent spiritual practices for our spiritual growth.  Personally I table or leaflet a few times a month.

One of the reminders I get when doing outreach is how consumption of animal products seems to put people in a callous and denial state.  Most people act like their daily routine is so important and other people and reality do not matter.  It saddens me to see this and to meet people who used to be vegan or raw vegan and who now are omnivores.  Outreach can keep us on the 'path' for life.  Diet outreach is the most important work I do and have done in my life.

Thank you so very much.

Bill
