Hello all:

I am grateful and enjoying the challenge of tabling to educate people about our common interest.  It would be impossible right now for me to take full responsibility for tabling for 3 days at this event especially since I would need 2 or 3 tables to promote each of the many practices dear to my heart. (Permaculture, Natural Farming, Organic, vegan, vegetarian, cutting back on animal products, rawfoods, animal/being/human rights etc.)

Thank you so very much for all you do now.

If you have attended this event please let me know if you think it would be worthwhile to participate in the 3 day event or the one day pre-sale?

Thank you so very much.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I will have more unpasteurized organic almonds in the next week or so.  They are 2011 crop, $9/lb for under 20 pounds, orders over 20 pounds are $8.50/lb.  Minimum order 5 pounds.  If you need shipping, it adds approximately $1/lb.  Please email privately if you have questions.  Thank you.

Dr. Steven Bailey (ND) of the Northwest Naturopathic Clinic is someone I'd recommend. He is an expert on digestive issues, and though not raw, supervises juice feasts and understands and supports those of us who are with their issues.

I would recommend a distance consult with Dr. Doug Graham, foodnsport.com. Also I am not sure if he has completed his degree yet but Andrew Gregg was attended DC school last time I spoke with him and is raw.

Hello Laura C:

Dr. Gabriel Cousins, M.D., runs a raw Arizona retreat center "Tree of Life",  Hippocrates Health in Fl has MD's on staff.  Both can do blood tests to help determine what is going on.  HHI is expensive for most of us but they do follow-up analysis of your blood tests for life after your visit.

I studied pre-med in the 90's, did quite well but didn't want to go $100k in debt and they wouldn't give me the full scholarship I wanted. I did get a Bachelor's in Chemistry: Biochemistry in 1995.  Also I was on the Dr. Dean Ornish program for reversing heart disease at the time so I could see though much of the dietary bias and BS in our 'mainstream' education.

I would be happy to listen to your "problems" and help you troubleshoot your issues for free as I am a seeker of knowledge and have been studying raw foods for 12 years now...

Thank you so very much.

Hi Angela,

I don't moderate this groups and am not sure of the settings, but for the groups I moderate, some formats (html, etc.) and images do not post. Straight text and links should always work. Also, many moderators, myself included, have all new members moderated, so the first posts for anyone are always moderated. Once a moderator sees the new member is not a spammer, etc., the member can be unmoderated.

If none of this fits for your case, then it could be a Yahoo issue. That has been known to happen!

Jeff

As much at it pains me I think I could/need to sell my Excalibur.  I've used it about 4 times and had every intention of using it more but I'm just not making it happen.

It's a 5 Tray, with timer-  Feel $140 would be  fair price...

Hi, there!

Orders for the Our Community Pantry buy for June are due at noon on Friday, June 8th.

Our Community Pantry
is a monthly buying group focused on organic foodstuffs that are fresher than you'll find on the shelf of your local store. We source locally where possible, and our goods are stored to preserve nutritional integrity. (Our brazil nuts are shipped and stored in refrigeration, and have to be tasted to be believed!)

There's no membership fee or minimum order. Just order what you want when you want it.

June orders will be distributed starting Sunday, June 17th, with pick up locations in SE and NE Portland. Items are rebagged into 1# increments, so you can pick up as little as 1# of brazil nuts if you want.

In addition to organic nuts and seeds, we have Mendocino seaweeds, a selection of ayurvedic herbs, raw snacks, and select local artisanal foods.

Come visit our website!

Be well,

-Brion

I went to Whole foods tonight and they did not carry Mesquite pod powder.

I think I bought it originally from Chad Sarno.  It is great for making chai out of young coconut meat and water.

Any good sources you know of in the Portland / Vancouver area or do I have to go on-line...

Not essential but a nice change from plain or carob flavored.

Thank you so very much.

Hi, Bill -

I sell mesquite powder through Our Community Pantry. It's packaged by Ultimate
Superfoods, and available for $3.93 in 2-oz, $7.40 in 8-oz, and $11.00 in 16-oz.

They only currently have in stock the version they're calling "sweet". Both
types they stock are 100% organic and raw. The more standard version may be
available by the time of the OCP July order on Friday the 13th.

It's in the herbs and powders section of the OCP website:

You may also want to try Rok Caldwell. He often has this sort of thing as well.

What is Mesquite Pod Powder used for, other than in a Chai? Is it medicinal?

Thank you....

I don't think mesquite is considered a medicinal food, though I'm sure there are some medicinal applications for the plant.

It's primarily used as a natural sweetening and flavoring agent, and is known to be high in protein and minerals, though I've seen different minerals listed for it. It's also lower on the glycemic index than many sweeteners, though it's not nearly as sweet as most sweeteners, either.

From the Sunfood article, "Mesquite is a traditional Native American food that has been used for centuries as a reliable source of nutrients in the harshest of climates."

Thanks for asking Aimee.

Chad Sarno's book has a list of world cuisines and the spices/ingredients that each type of cuisine uses.  His book may have some other uses for Mesquite.

The Empire seems intent on destroying all forests and Mesquite trees are being cut down for $$ as a flavoring wood used in barbeque's.
The Rebel Alliance recommends using the pod of the Mesquite tree as a sustainable way to support the trees.

Here is my recipe for a thick Chai shake that I am currently enjoying:

1/4 cup Organic Raw Mesquite powder
3 stalks of celery
1 medium carrot
coconut meat from 3-5 young Thai coconuts
1 qt. filtered water or the water from 2 or 3 of the coconuts

Blend and enjoy.  If you do not want the orange tint from the carrots use less or leave out entirely.
NOTE: Many people today do not have much "night vision" so getting digestible raw carrots into one's diet is important.
Garnet Yams can replace carrots as a vitamin A source.
