Do not do this during nursing! I did and my son became autistic and I have
chronic
fatigue. He has had chelation therapy to remove metals. Mercury was one of the
highest. I
personally would not do it at a regular dentist. From my understanding it is the
vapors
that are released during removal that are the biggest issue.

Hi1

I'm kind of in the same boat. I'm moving to Palm Springs, CA in October though not sure of the exact day. A tad sooner would be better for me as well.

Thanks!
Warmly,
Margie

Hi,
I just purchased some dried purple corn and was wondering if anyone out there knows whether or not I can soak the kernels and then use them like fresh corn? i.e. I would like to make some raw blue tortilla chips. Usually I just use frozen organic corn, but have never seen blue corn until I found this dried version. Thanks for your help!

Hi Portland raw fooders,
I joined your list to keep you informed about the unpasteurized
almonds that many of you have ordered.

First I guess I should introduce myself. I've been a 100% raw fooder
for 7 years and have a raw coaching and information site/business
called RawSchool.com. I live in Bellevue, WA, where I also operate a
thriving dog exercising business.

I don't eat a lot of nuts currently myself but ate a ton of them
during my first few years of transitioning. I've been looking for
years for a source for freshly harvested pistachios and finally made
contact this weekend with a very small uncertified organic pistachio
farmer. He is too small to go through the certification process but
he is committed to using absolutely no chemicals on his crop. I
agreed to buy as much of it as I have demand for, and would like to
offer them to you in addition to the almonds. These nuts have
undergone no processing at all except for removal of the soft outer
hull (not to be confused with the hard shell) which is done by
centrifugal force (no heat). They are lying on tables in the open air
right now, drying out, which causes the hard shell to open naturally.
I will be selling them with the shell ON, btw. Unlike most
pistachios that you can buy commercially, these nuts are soft, moist
and easy to chew. The cost is $7/lb, the same as the almonds. They
will be arriving 2-3 weeks later than the almonds so we'll have to
work out a way to get them to you, either by transporting them by car
or shipping. I'll be coming to Portland on November 21 too if all
else fails.

The almonds are being shipped today for arrival here in the Seattle
area later this week. I'll be packaging up the orders for everyone
who ordered through Annette and then will arrange with Annette to get
them transported to Portland. The almonds are a mixture of two
varieties -- Sonora (large, flat, light colored, sweet) and Carmel
(smaller, rounder, darker, more almond flavor). The farmer suffers no
price decrease from mixing varieties and it's easier for him to
harvest them together. Please note they are already mixed so you
can't choose one or the other. The nuts were harvested last Thursday
and shelled on Friday so they are fresh and very good tasting. They
have not even undergone fumigation, which is normally done to all
almonds (even organic, I believe).

I may have some to sell after all the advance orders have been filled
so if you are interested in buying almonds but didn't order before
please let me know and I'll put you on my wait list. If you want
PISTACHIOS, I need your order NO LATER THAN THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 28.

I think Annette has been in touch with everyone who ordered almonds
with instructions on where to mail payment, etc., but please feel free
to email me directly if you have questions about that or anything
else. Thank you!

Best wishes,
Nora Lenz

Hi Robyn, and All,
I've just created a database in the Raw Portland Yahoo group for nut orders.  If you've never used one before, don't be intimidated, it's very easy.  All you do is click on the "Visit Your Group" link either to the right or below this post.  Once at the Yahoo home page, you'll see a list of links on the left, once of which is "Database".  Click on that and it will bring up a table.  Click on "Add Record" and you'll get a list of boxes into which you can type your contact information and the quantity and type of nuts you'd like.

I'm hoping that almost everyone who wants to order is a member of this Yahoo group, so I can cut down on the number of emails and phone calls I'm having to field, which is becoming unmanageable. :)  PLEASE NOTE:  Even if you've already talked to me on the phone or emailed your order, I'd appreciate it if you'd go to the database and add your order.

THE DATABASE WILL CLOSE THIS FRIDAY AT NOON.  That means you'll have until then to add your order.

In answer to your question, Robyn, there are three options for payment, below.  I prefer checks since Paypal charges a fee.
  1.     Mail a check or money order to:  Nora Lenz, 14447 SE 16th St., Bellevue, WA, 98007
  2.     Give your check directly to the person who will be coming to pick up the nuts (Annette)
  3.     Paypal (to: nmlenz@...)
Annette indicated it would be at least a couple weeks before she'll be able to come up.  All orders that she picks up will have to be paid for in advance.

Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thanks muchly for your cooperation!
Best wishes,
Nora

Hello again,
I wanted to give you more explicit instructions on using the nut ordering database because I think I may have left a step or two out that might throw someone off who isn't familiar with the Yahoo system.

If you want to order either almonds or pistachios:
  1. Click on the link in this post called "Visit Your Group" (it will be in a box to the right)
  2. When you arrive at the home page of Raw Portland, you'll see a list of links in a yellow box on the left; click on "Database"
  3. When the name of the database appears ("Unpasteurized Almonds and Raw Pistachios"), click on it
  4. There will be a horizontal list of links in the center of the page, the first of which is "Add Record", click on it
  5. Then you'll get the boxes asking for your info and order; fill them in and then click the "Add Record" button at the bottom
Please let me know if I can answer any questions.

Hi Portlanders,
I wanted to let you know that the almonds arrived safely here in Seattle.  Yay. :)

Thanks very much to those of you who entered your orders on the database.  For those of you who haven't, don't worry about it, I will use the info you gave Annette to process your orders.  Annette will be coming to Seattle to pick them up either next weekend (Oct. 6-7) or on the 10th.  They will be marked with your name and the quantity.  In the meantime, just to clarify, you'll need to mail me a check for the amount that covers your ALMOND ORDER ONLY.  If you've already mailed a check that included your pistachio order too, that's fine but I don't have the pistachios yet and I most likely won't have them by the time Annette comes up and I'd rather do them separately.  We'll probably have to look at shipping them to you, which is not terribly expensive if we use the $9 flat rate postal boxes (which will hold up to 10 pounds of pistachios).

If you do want pistachios, just let me know so I can include it on my order to the farmer.  He is giving me a couple more days, so you'll have till Monday evening to either email me or post your order on the database.  That's for pistachios only.  The almonds are already spoken for so if you haven't ordered by now, it's too late.  There is a possibility I'll have some left after all the orders are filled but I'll have to let you know in a week or so.

According to the list 19 people have placed orders.  So far I've only received checks from the following people:
Erica Sebald
Veronique Lhote
Robyn Cornwall
Karen Ann Lee

Here's my address again, jfyi:  Nora Lenz, 14447 SE 16th Street, Bellevue, WA, 98007.

Please let me know if I left anything out or if you have any questions.  Thanks all!

Warm wishes,
Nora

Hi All,
Any comments:
I'm trying to decide from what source to buy Klamath Lake algae.  I'm looking for the  best deal but hoping not to buy inferior product.  Expensive especially for a whole family!  I used to buy cell tech animal algae in the big container.  Now I'm looking at "Crystal Manna".  It looks like the least expensive source.  Anyone used it?  I know E3 is very popular.
Thank you!

Hi Gabrielle. This is my RSVP that I'll be at the Sunday supper at 5 this
Sunday. Is it really just $5 - $10 for a catered meal? (let me know please
if not) Thanks very much!

Yes, Hannah, we only ask for a modest contribution in order not to
discourage from coming those who have not yet learned what a valuable
asset the regular availability of a communal raw meal can be. It will
be good to see you again Sunday.
Love,
Gabrielle

The Core Team for next year's Raw and Living Spirit Retreat in
Molalla, Oregon is meeting tomorrow night, Sunday, at 7:30 PM at
Milwaukie Presbyterian Church, following Sunday Supper. (The church is
located at 2416 SE Lake Rd, Milwaukie.) If you went to the retreat
this year and have some feedback for us you would like to share, or if
you are interested in being a member of our core planning team, please
attend.

We have several openings on our Core Team for next year, and are
looking to expand the size of our team. Being a member of the Core
Team involves serving an important function for the retreat, attending
all Core Team meetings throughout the year (typically held on Sunday
evenings) and having a large role in the planning process. Some
positions we have open include registrar, day kitchen managers,
volunteer coordinator, publicity, and others. However, we are open to
other ways of assisting with the retreat. Primarily, we are looking
for individuals with energy, enthusiasm, and follow-through. Next
year's retreat will be held August 26-29. Core Team members must be
available for the retreat as well as the several weeks prior.

If you can't make tomorrow's meeting but are still interested in
helping to plan or volunteer at next year's retreat, please email
info@... and let us know how you'd like to help and
how to get in touch with you.

It has been decided we are doing the Third Annual Raw and Living Spirit Retreat! August 2008 Tuesday thru Friday

This is an amazing event and if you value raw life choices I encourage you to become a participant.

The benefits to you with be greater then your inputs; as you will be doing the best for yourself and your community.

Look into your heart --- bring your talents and energy.

The Core team needs more quality participants.

We need help with the website, flyer distribution, child care, kitchen manager, Volunteer coordinator, 3 kitchen day supervisors, volunteers, cleaners, set-up and tear down, DJ, Videographer, room monitors, kitchen workers, servers, etc.  this is a world class event way ahead of its time.  Be present!

Each Core team member can use support and assistance as putting on this size event takes lots of energy, wisdom and time.  Gabrielle and Thomas do most of the work but the more enthusiastic help we have the lighter the load and the more transformation that can take place.

Even if you can only come and polish our shoes or give us a shave or haircut once in a while.  LOL  I am joking about the shoes and haircuts but we can use your positive energy and kind thoughts and help in promoting this gathering of the clan....  I have been to 9 of these events and learned so much each time.  Still I know I need more support and more knowledge to be my best.  Gabrielle and Thomas can teach me so much and so can you!  But you can only share your radiance if you show up!

The first core team planning meeting is after Sunday supper (7 p.m. this Sunday October 7th 2007)

Come if you can help!  If your intentions are pure you will benefit 3-7 fold..

Namaste:

Bill

Hi All,
Annette will be meeting me tomorrow afternoon to pick up the almonds.
Unfortunately there have been
quite a few people who ordered who have either decreased their orders or
canceled altogether. Some
have just failed to follow through w/ payment after it was requested. I guess
it wasn't made clear
but it wasn't my intention to buy more almonds than I had orders for. The way
things stand now, I'm
going to have to find buyers for a lot of almonds that I thought were already
sold. The hour is
late but if there is anybody who hasn't ordered and would still like to (and can
pay via Paypal),
please email me before 9 am tomorrow. I can still ship almonds, too, for anyone
who misses this
deadline. The shipping cost for $10 pounds is $9.

I have no way of contacting people who ordered but didn't send payment, other
than posting here.
So, here's the list:

Marlane
Carrie Jo
Deb Watkins
Michelle
Geoff

If any of you have already mailed checks or haven't but still want your order
filled, please either
Paypal the funds or drop me an email (or call if it's later than 9 am tomorrow).

Thanks to all of you who sent your checks. :)

Kind regards,
Nora

I am back with the almonds and now have the task of figuring out how I can meet with everyone to give them their almonds.

Tomorrow (Tuesday) morning at 10:00 a.m. I will be in the parking lot of  Bud Clark's Goose Hollow Inn, 1927 SW Jefferson Street, to meet some of the people. Will this be convenient for you? If so, please email me prior to 8:30 a.m. Tuesday so I'll know to wait for you.

I will also be at the Raw Portland Meet-Up potluck on the 14th and can have the almonds with me there.

I don't know how long I'll be in Portland tomorrow. If neither of these times work for you, please let me know if there is someplace I can leave your almonds for you or let me know another suggestion.

Thanks!

Annette
