Look the odroid boards :-)

http://www.hardkernel.com/renewal_2011/main.php

from credit card size to 10x10cm different siuzes (with different connectors
on the board and different costs) are available

here a nice gpio expansion module (that sure can be used with other boards
via usb cable):

http://www.hardkernel.com/renewal_2011/products/prdt_info.php?g_code=G135390
529643

I was thinking about odroid x2
1.7GHz Exynos4 Quad Development Platform
ODROID-X2 open development platform is based on Exynos4412 Prime 1.7GHz ARM
Cortex-A9 Quad Core with 2GB memory. Enjoy PC-like performance.
KEY FEATURES
* Low-cost development platform
* 1.7GHz Quad core ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore
* 2GB Memory
* 6 x High speed USB2.0 Host port
* 10/100Mbps Ethernet with RJ-45 LAN Jack
* Android 4.x & Ubuntu BSP

Or the odroid u2 if you can live with fewer connectors but need a cheaper
solution with a small form factor

Agree and applaud it Jerry. It's easy for those of us who are
interested to sign up and keep the focus on R-Pi here. Since so many
questions are specific to the hardware and software distro I think this
makes great sense.

While I love the Pi as a learning tool and what the Foundation is doing
with it, this is a fast-moving world and when $50 will buy PC-on-a-stick
products like the MK808 with dual-core CPUs, built-in wi-fi, USB OTG and
more, we're going to see more and more inexpensive computing options
that should be very exciting.

Hi Jerry,

OK, looks like I started quite a stur here. My appologies for that. That was surely not my intention.

Just for clearity. It is not at all my intention to "hijack" this group. I'm not the owner nor the moderator, so it's not for me to descide what is the focus of the group.
I just wanted to know if it is accepted to post messages about other boards on the list or not.

For me, the great think about the pi is that is a very cheap platform that has got a lot of publicity and -therefor- got quite some people interested in these kind of devices, and -via that way- also interested in linux and coding.

I see the Pi as part of a whole spectrum of devices: starting at -at the very now end- a MCU like the 8-pin ATtinys,  then the ATmegas/PICs, the arduino and its clones / "upgraded" clones, ARM9-based devices (like the mini2440), then the RPi and beaglebone, up to the pandaboard, beaglebone and finally arriving intel/AMD based mini computers. Then you also have things like plugcomputers and these computer-on-a-stick devices.

Some platforms are even a mix of them: I just got my gertboard for my Pi as of last weekend, and on that board there actually is a ATmega328P; so it's not that much different from having an arduino on a IO-board for the Pi.

I try not to be to religious about this. All platforms probably have their merrits, and they also all have their problems. The RPi is in that case no exception.
Compairing it with other platforms does -I think- make sence to understand how the Pi fits in this and appriciate its power.

Again, my question was simply to know if this kind of discussion is accepted here or not. Nothing more and nothing less then that.

Me myself, I'll try to limit the messages here to the Pi, but I hope nobody objects if I do mention the name of another board. (I just happen to have a number of different boards here. :-) )

I don't thinbk you're outnumbered at all, Bob. Calling something that was only available to vote on, for a couple of hours a poll. Is laughable.
As is the idea of calling something a Raspberry Pi group and then cluttering it up with some random assortment with other boards.

If it goes ahead. I'm 100% certain that somebody will start another group, just for the RasPi

So what was the point of a 2 hour poll?
Put it back up and let it cook for a couple of days.

Kristoff... You did nothing wrong.. No Apology needed.. You asked a very good
question, that needed to be addressed..
I did hastily post a POLL. I should not have until I better understood my own
thought pattern, and for that I apologize to all..

Back to the RPi World..

For what's its worth, as a newbie, I'd vote to keep the group pi-centric.
Plenty to discuss / explore in Pi alone.

into a problem Installing WordPress. When I put the following command: "sudo

get the following error..

BTW I have this running fine on Windows XP and this guy has made the

works well.

Take a look. There is a Yahoo group for it as well.

Hi folks.

The pi port of BPQ32 is about ready for testing. There are sure to be problems with it still, but if anyone is willing to try it please let me know. At least to start, I suggest testers should be familiar with BPQ32, and have a basic knowledge of linux commands - this isn't really something for those new to either BPQ or linux to play with at this stage.
The basic features are:

Has been tested on Raspberry PI and Ubuntu running on a PC.
BPQ32 compatible Node, includng the APRS Digi/Igate feature
Uses standard bpq32.cfg
Drivers for KISS, AXIP, BPQEther, Telnet, SCS Tracker, SCSPTC. I2C Driver for PITNC on the PI. Others to follow.
Includes the BBS part of BPQMailChat (not chat).
BBS Configuration and BBS/Node monitoring via a Web interface.

The instructions for installing BPQ on linux can be downloaded from https://dl.dropbox.com/u/31910649/InstallingLINBPQ.htm

You cab try

sudo find / -name setup-mysql

to find the file or directory, in case it exists and the install script is wrong.

It may be that the script setup-mysql is there but it does not have exec permissions...
Then chmod +x setup-mysql
would help...

My 2 cents :-)

It may be that the script setup-mysql is there but it does not have exec permissions...
Then chmod +x setup-mysql
would help...

My 2 cents :-)

Can you perhaps try the same command I use in linux to find that? eg: sudo updatedb, then "sudo locate (filename)"???

Hello John,

You might be on to something John.  Here is what happens when I give the following command.

Sudo apt-get install mysql-server

Reading package lists….Done

Building dependency tree

Reading state information….Done

E: Unable to locate package mysql-server

So I thought that the mysql was not  installed so just to make sure, I gave the following command.

Sudo mysql –uroot –p

And it asked me for my password….so it must be installed.

Thanks for your help.

Don

No, that merely means that the mysql *client* is installed. The server is a
separate package. The client will prompt you for the password before it even
tries to connect to the server process.

You've run 10,000 different permutations of find for people on here and none of
them have turned up anything. Find isn't dependent on a database or anything,
so if it was there, it'd show up. Your attempt to install the mysql-server
package failing shows that there's definitely something wrong there and it's
very likely that the mysql-server package isn't there. You can check by
executing:

sudo dpkg --get-selections mysql-server

If it's not installed, it'll show something like:

dpkg: no packages found matching mysql-server

You might want to check to make sure your package lists are up to date by
executing:

sudo apt-get update

and then try to install the mysql-server package again.

Did you tried
sudo apt-get update

I installed dselect (sudo apt-get install dselect) as I like dselect
to browse the package archive... and I confirmed the package is named
mysql-server

I have just noticed that it is not a problem of the mysql-server package...
It is on the "wordpress" doc package
(/usr/share/doc/wordpress/examples/setup-mysql)
Have you installed the wordpress package?

I am installing the wordpress package just now... for a check...
sudo apt-get install wordpress

[... some minutes after ...]
It installed MANY packages (as my raspbian installation was clean (I
have my raspberry since last weekend!)) but I think I got the problem
and... I have a solution.

If you do:
ls /usr/share/doc/wordpress/examples

You will see that the setup-mysql in gzipped... so you should uncompress it.
gzip -d will do the job.
Now, you should have the file you are looking for...

I my case I enter:
sudo bash setup-mysql -n wordpress 192.168.1.34

Then you have to modify the webserver configuration (if you did not do
it already) to point to your wordpress installation (in
/usr/share/wordpress).

Create the DB, config the /etc/wordpress/config- file...

Does it help?
