The Rainbow Peace Walk was initiated from the annual July 4th Rainbow Family Tribe "Gathering of Living Lights" in 1982 in Idaho, as the Idaho Rainbow Peace Walk which was conducted with a few dozen people and a few vehicles, walking every step to Washington State to pray at the Trident Submarine Base and the Seattle Peace Pagoda Site.
The history of the Rainbow Peace Walk, as a theme and unique spiritual mission expression ("flavor") among the peace walk genre, includes the 1984 Arizona Peace Walk to Big Mountain initiated from the sacred circle at Cochise Stronghold Arizona after the Spring Equinox International Earth Day Rainbow Family Gathering. The walk of several dozen walkers and several vehicles led by the Kid Village Kitchen Bus of Sundancer Felipe Chavez ended at the spring Big Mountain Survival Gathering where we heard from Kee Shay and other Dineh elders translated from their very softspoken language into English, with participation of the traditional Hopi interpreter Thomas Banyacya. After the gathering was over and gone, a giant satellite (Skylab?) burst apart in the atmosphere over Big Mountain covering half the distance between horizons and a quarter of the width of sky ablaze with millions of bits of meteoric debri lighting up the sky at night.
That Arizona Rainbow Peace Walk to Big Mountain in April of 1984 set the stage for the Rainbow Peace Caravan and Walk from the July 1984 National in California, Likely, to SF Golden Gate Park Peace Pole Camp for eight days without permission but with cooperation of authorities, then on Tour to Dallas Riverbottom Camp, and War Chest Tour Peacewalk with the "Rainbow Family White House Peace Pole" in August ending at Dallas City Hall and the arrest of the Peace Pole and 92 human beings, one of whom burned a flag and went to jail and a year later the Supreme Court overturned the law in Texas against "desecration of a venerable object" when applied to protesters burning the American Flag disrespectfully.
