This group exists to collate information on the range of manpack tactical military radios manufactured in the UK by Racal from the 1970s to the early 1990s, including the BCC, PRM and TRA series, and to provide a source of technical information and spares and accessories.
We very much welcome postings relating to on-air use of the Racal manpacks, either anecdotal during their military service or references to current use in amateur radio or other service. We hope eventually to set up a Web site devoted to these models.
Bob, G8IYK, list owner, owns or has owned TRA.931, TRA.931XH, TRA.967, PRM.4021, PRM.4031 and PRM.4041 manpacks. He has as reference material the Racal-Tacticom "Concise Catalogue" from the early 1980s, several years of Janes Military Communications and a couple of other professional military comms yearbooks from the period, and the Racal brochures for a couple of the models in the range, and these will be scanned and placed in the "Photos" section as soon as possible. A major role for this group will be to try to identify any sources of service and operating manuals, and any other literature, for the equipment which interests us.
Please take time to check out our "Links" section, and also to read back through the archived mail from before your date of joining the group.
