Re: [RV7A] Safety-wiring the fuel pick-up nut

Its a little hard to tell from the diagram but what I did was to drill a hole tangential to the nut. I broke through into the threads on one of them so I picked another face of the nut and tried again with success.  I started the drill perpendicular to the face and then angled it after I started the hole. I folded the safety wire in half and passed one leg through the hole and twisted the wire for about an inch. I then wrapped those two legs around the  90 degree fitting (I don't have that AN # in front of me) and then I twisted those two legs around the opposite side of the 90 degree fitting. I used a #51 drill bit to drill the whole.  I only had .040 safety wire so that's what I used.

That's how I did it. It took me about 10 minutes as my wings are still off the plane. Hope I've helped some people since you all have been such agreat help to me.

Subject: [RV7A] Safety-wiring the fuel pick-up nut

Looking for guidance on safety wiring the AN818-6D ciyokubg byt to
comply with SB 06-2-23.

I haven't done a lot of safety wiring on the project so far and I
haven't done any on a fitting like this, and Figure 2 on the SB
doesn't tell me too much.

Specifically, the instructions say to drill the holl in the nut to
allow instllation of the .032 wire. Then put the nut back on with the
pickup tube and torque to 11-130 in lbs.

Then Safety wire  the nut to the bulkhead fitting.

OK, here's what I see looking at figure 2. I've got a hole in a nut
that's back on the fitting,w hich I assume blocks the hole from access
to anything? So what is the route of that safety wire with this
procedure. Does it somehow go into that hole and then where? There's a
fitting in the way.

Looking at AC43.13.1b, it looks like (page 7-24), an acceptable method
here is TWO holes on adjacent faces of the nut, and thread the wire in
one and out the other. Is this the method you all are using?

Bob, This is how I approached it. Put the nut on and torque it down. Make a mark where to hole should be. Remove the nut and drill it. I just used a drill...

Bill, I would be concerned with the first hole you drilled through the threads on the Nut. If this hole is not plugged, it will suck air into your fuel system...
