I was reading the two articles in this month's Kitplanes magazine on
engine monitors and while they were interesting, they didn't help a
lick in approaching the purchasing of engine monitors.
The articles did a great job of explaining the various features of a
few models, but they did not really "review" the products, listing
the advantages and disadvantages of each one.
Frankly, I don't KNOW if this particular bell-and-whistle on Model A
is what sets it apart from Model B.
There was a chart that showed what each can do and how much each
costs (although a comparison of models based on price when one price
includes probes and another product's price did not. How much do
probes add to the total cost? I have no frame of reference), but
what I was hoping for was some sort of indication that if you're
going to buy an engine monitor (and I did take away that I should),
that these are the "must haves," these are the "nice to haves" and
these are the "don't really needs."
I'm just as inclined, frankly, to buy Rob Hickman's product because
Dave Parsons and Dan Checkoway did. And I'm guessing I probably
can't go wrong doing that.
Can we assemble a sort of "engine monitor review" in this space,
though?
