The RNARS
The Royal Naval Amateur Radio Society was formed in 1960 to promote amateur radio as an aid to technical education within the Service. In 1964 the Society was considered to be sufficiently established to invite the Captain of HMS Mercury to become its first President, a practice which continues to this day. The Society headquarters are in HMS Collingwood.
We are represented in many parts of the world with local groups and branches. Some of the groups have established amateur radio stations aboard historic ships and vessels.
Membership of the RNARS is open to all who have an interest in any facet of amateur radio and who are serving or who have served in the following:
Royal Navy - Royal Marines - Royal Naval Reserve - Royal Marine Reserve - Women's Royal Naval Service - Royal Naval Auxiliary Service - Royal Fleet Auxiliary - Merchant Navy - Sea Cadets Corps - Nautical Training Corps - CCF (RN) - CCF (RM) - RN Recognised Sea Scouts - MOD (Navy) - Commonwealth and Foreign Navies - Royal National Lifeboat Institution Crew/Officers [seagoing]
Membership subscription is £15 per annum plus a joining fee of £2. Overseas members are advised to contact their respective country manager to ascertain the applicable rate.
