The Republican Liberty Caucus is on the move in 2009. Suddenly other Republicans are waking up to the fact that the Republican Party under George W. Bush has not been even close to "conservative" in any sense of the word, and, indeed, has been the antithesis of libertarianism.
In March, the RLC held its National Convention in Jacksonville, Florida and elected new Board members. In April, RLC members and activists participated in April 15 Tax Day Tea Parties all across the country.
In the coming months, RLC affiliates will be hosting conventions in Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Utah, and Virginia. We hope you'll attend the RLC's upcoming events, now featured on the RLC Calendar at www.RLC.org.
If you haven't yet done so, please join the RLC today. There's never been a better time! This newsletter outlines the latest news from the RLC and highlights the many ways that you can become involved in our efforts to preserve our liberties and change the direction of the GOP.

RLC Member Elected to Lisle Town Board in Illinois, Gives Advice to Future Candidates
According to the April 7, 2009 Election Results posted at the Lisle (pronounced Lyle) Township Republican Organization in Illinois, RLC member Michael A. Tams won his election to be Lisle Township Trustee. Lisle is in Dupage County (metro Chicago) and has a population of roughly 25,000.
RLC member Tams was the only non-incumbent winner and the number two vote-getter, hopefully because "when I got the chance to talk to people I clearly articulated a pro-Constitution, originalist view of the role of government and a low-tax, pro-prosperity agenda," he says.
Tams also offered some key advice for other RLC members who hope to run for local office in the near future. Read the full story at the RLC blog.
RLC Members Organize Tea Party Protests, Impel Much-Needed Tax Reforms
All across the country on April 15, Republican Liberty Caucus members attended Tea Party Rallies to express dissent to Members of Congress and local officials and encourage sensible economic reforms that will enhance America's struggling economy.
According to the RLC "Tea Party" press release, "Our hope is that the politicians will notice when a large group of taxpayers converge to express dissent," said RLC Chairman Dave Nalle. "Individuals and families are angry about this economy-and it has everything to do with the tremendous growth of government combined with deficit-spending, tax hikes, and unsustainable central economic planning carried out by the political ruling class," continued Nalle.
"RLC members from across the country will use April 15 as a day to protest the federal income tax, government Bailouts, unsound monetary policy, and the insurmountable national debt."
And, whaddya know, RLC members did! An array of photos that capture RLC members from across the nation partaking in the April 15 Tea Parties online at RLC.org.

RLC Issues Statement Opposing Card Check
In the RLC's latest press release, we explained that the House and Senate are considering versions of the Employee Free Choice Act, also known as "card check," legislation that would place "an unreasonable burden on small and mid-sized businesses and would be a disaster for America's already troubled economy," warned RLC Chairman Dave Nalle. The House version of the bill is sponsored by George Miller (D) and already has 233 co-sponsors. The Senate version is sponsored by Ted Kennedy (D-MA) and has 46 co-sponsors."With such strong partisan support," warns Nalle, "this ironically misnamed bill, which would take free choice away from workers, stands a very real chance of passing." Under the current rules laid out by the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), unions organize workers through a private election system with secret balloting and then bargain collectively with employers.Under EFCA, American workers will lose the protection of the secret ballot, which is a cornerstone of democracy. "If card check passes, workers will be coerced into joining unions against their will, swelling union treasuries with billions of dollars that will go to support the same Democrat politicians who have been promoting this bill," said Nalle.Read more about card check in the RLC's press release.

RLC Member is Top Tweeter
Tweet, tweet.
For the last several months, the Republican Liberty Caucus has been on twitter and presently has 1,611 followers on the network. The main manager of RLC-twitter is Matthew Gagnon, a longtime RLC member-blogger living in northern Virginia. Matt is more than just a RLC member, though, having recently been elected Southern Regional Director on the RLC National Committee. His tireless efforts on behalf of our movement deserve praise and thanks.
According to The Hill, Gagnon was the top tweeter in the FamousDC Twitter contest, having beat out Bush-ites Patrick Ruffini and Michael Turk.
At Mr. Yogato's in Washington, DC, Matt now has his own ice-cream flavor in celebration of his victory. The flavor is non-Gag Chocolate Heaven.
If you buy non-Gag Chocolate Heaven, proceeds go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Congratulations, Matt!
And don't forget to friend Matt (and friend the RLC) on Twitter. California RLC: No on May 19 Ballot Propositions The Republican Liberty Caucus of California Recommends a NO Vote On Propositions 1A-1F in the May 19 Special Election:

Paul's "Audit the Fed" Bill in Financial Services Committee
After many months of hearing about H.R. 1207, a bill sponsored by Congressman Ron Paul that would audit the Federal Reserve, has finally advanced to a phase where grassroots citizens can have a say on the matter via their member of Congress.
That's because H.R. 1207 is now in the House Financial Services Committee, whose member list is here.Dr. Paul's bill would reform the manner in which the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System is audited by the Comptroller General of the United States and the manner in which such audits are reported. As of this writing, the legislation has over 100 co-sponsors, making it a historical piece of legislation for the oft-lonely "Dr. No" from Texas. Not surprisingly, almost all RLC-endorsed candidates in Congress have signed on to co-sponsor this legislation. Some of the surprises on the list of co-sponsors include Republicans Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Roy Blunt (R-MO), Dean Heller (R-NV), Mary Fallin (R-OK), Rodney Alexander (R-LA), and Rob Wittman (R-VA). Most of the Democrats who have signed on are often "go at it alone" types such as the far-leftists Peter DeFazio (OR) and Pete Stark (CA) and Blue-Dog Democrats such as Gene Taylor (MS) and Steve Kagen (WI). A few power-player Democrats have also signed on, such as Lynn Woolsey (CA) and Neil Abercrombie (HI).For many months, Republican Liberty Caucus members all across the country have spent their time promoting H.R. 1207. In Alameda County (Bay Area) California, where the RLC holds a majority of members on a very large County GOP Executive Committee, a resolution supporting H.R. 1207 was passed. A similar resolution was also passed by the Sonoma County Republican Party, whose Vice-Chair is RLC California Chairman Matthew Heath. The resolution in Alameda County, championed by California RLC Secretary Walter Stanley and California RLC Board member David LaTour, says, in part, "We applaud transparency and accountability in government and reject government secrecy involving monetary policy that impacts the entire economy." Similar resolutions are being worked on and introduced in other localities throughout the country. The official Audit the Fed Facebook group has over 3,000 members. Please write to House Financial Services Committee members today and ask them to advance H.R. 1207.
