It's also quite possible that some very libertarian people have suppressed
their expression of liberty ideals in order to be successful in politics.
I know several people in California that agree with me on nearly every
issue, but for pragmatic reasons have avoided discussion of them in political
settings. They have prominent positions in the Republican Party and enjoy
the social and financial benefits. Perhaps they are now feeling more
comfortable about expressing their views. Which is why I'm suggesting that
Truncale, even though "establishment", should be given an opportunity to state
his
views.

Has anyone modified the documents on the website to show some other mailing

They (CNN) mentioned that Ron Paul would be campaigning in 2 places in California today, one of them sponsored by the Republican Liberty Caucus.

It's always good to get a positive flip in our direction, as opposed to the ones that involve manual middle digits.

Hey y'all, et al,

This was sent to the RLCTX group about a week ago, but though I might include it here as well.

Perhaps you might consider the following, if you have not already done so:

http://www.linkedin.com is a website devoted to job connections, and has a great deal of prominent members
of the business community worldwide as members.

A basic membership is FREE, and is a fairly good way of hooking up with people. Admittedly, it's a pain to fill out a resume', but it's part of the process. Essentially, a Facebook with business and political concerns.

I am a member of LinkedIn. I am NOT a member of Facebook, as I consider it a bit of a waste of time.

There are a number of groups you can join, but one that stands out as a possible interest to the RLC is
the "Texas House of Representatives" group, although there are many others. Espousing in the group
could possibly allow us a bit more "clout", as group messages are often sent out to members of said group (although that may have changed, since I don't know the moderation practices at this point in time).
I know at least one member personally who has a tremendous amount of interest, and holds libertarian beliefs. He is not on our RLC mailing list, and probably wouldn't join, BUT, he has some financial resources which might afford us some extended opportunities if he were to receive group messages on LinkedIn relaying our "message", tactfully, of course.

In addition, with enough members on linkedin, we could also consider setting up a group there as well.

Dave Nalle could, if our present membership on this group did not disapprove, set up an RLC group on LinkedIn as well, if he has not already done so (sorry, I haven't checked).

Of course, you can name dozens of places on the web to extend our message, but this one limits a great deal of "noise" which passes for "information" spewing out of my e-mail box.

Consider it. Hey, you might even get a better job in the process.

;^)

Best regards,

Barry

Big mistake, Barry.  You've written Facebook off too soon.  It has become a dominant tool for political activism.  Most RLCers are active on Facebook and it's used to coordinate all sorts of activism and information distribution.  LinkedIn it just not as functional for the kinds of things you want to do as a political activist, nor does it have anything near the user base.

I do think LinkedIn is experiencing some growth, but having used it before I basically gave up on it as useless about a year ago.

I'll make you a deal.  If you gt on FB and join some appropriate RLC groups I'll get back on LinkedIn and set up an RLC group.

Barry, I've logged into my old LinkedIn account and immediately began running into technical glitches. It keeps giving me an error when trying to upload a photo, and when I tried to create an RLCTX group it keeps giving me an error and claiming I haven't filled out all the required fields even though I have.  It's maddening.

BTW, there already is a general RLC group as well as groups for several other states.  But until this error goes away I don't see a Texas group happening.

Let me know if you have any better luck on Facebook.

Dave,

I have no idea what you're running browser-wise,  but I've had boo-koos of problems with IE 9 and pretty much a plethora of websites. I set it back to emulate IE 8, and that seems to solve a whole lot of problems.

Haven't forgotten about my word, just been solving a few "issues" regarding Pay-Pal. I'll look later tomight to see if the IE "downgrade" solves the problem on LinkedIn. Then onto the national RLC site, then on to FaceBook...blahblahblah.

"Gary Johnson left, bought a slurpee, caught a movie, and returned just in time for this question!" - Greg Gutfeld

Last night, Governor Johnson was invited to participate in the Fox News/Google debate in Florida and had the most memorable line in the debate.  He is now trending on Twitter and his name is the number one search term on Google.com.

Please become a fan of Gov. Johnson on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/govgaryjohnson and find your state Gary Johnson campaign contact at http://www.garyjohnson2012.com/state-contacts to become more active in our effort to restore freedom in America.

Liberty is bigger than Gary Johnson or Ron Paul, as you'll see in this video from the Johnson campaign: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0J04iO2JGw

The Boston Globe had a great review of Gov. Johnson's debate performance, saying, "In a primary where candidates make much of business experience, he is probably the only candidate who both built a business from scratch and actually governed a state."

At just the right time, GQ released a feature on the Governor calling him "compulsively honest".  Reason Magazine's article says, "Asked to quickly pick his running mate from the crew on stage, picked Ron Paul. He also proposed balancing the budget by cutting federal spending by 43 percent (!) more or less immediately, and delivered the night’s most memorable one-liner: 'My next door neighbor's dogs have created more shovel ready jobs that this administration' in a piece entitled "The Gary Johnson Debate."

If you liked Gov. Johnson's performance, please vote for him in Fox News' debate poll at http://nation.foxnews.com/ .

And join your state Gary Johnson Facebook fan page to get involved TODAY!  http://www.facebook.com/govgaryjohnson?sk=app_137331002992480

Friends of Liberty:

Since his election in 2010, Justin Amash (RLC-MI) has been one of our big successes in the House of Representatives. He has been a consistent voice for liberty and fiscally responsible government and has set a new standard of accountability which ought to be an inspiration for everyone in public office. Since he was elected he has posted multiple updates to his Facebook page every day that the House is in session detailing the issues being voted on and explaining his votes and his decision making process.

Rep. Amash has had his position in the 2012 election weakened by a redistricting plan designed to strengthen the positions of big-government incumbents in his state by transferring some of his voters to their districts and saddling him with more Democrat votes. It's still a very winnable district, but he needs all the help he can get.

The key to winning elections for liberty candidates when fighting the entrenched system of perpetual incumbency is to raise money from outside of a single district and to reach out to Liberty Republicans all over the nation for support. With Ron Paul retiring we need to hold on to every seat we can.

I don't do this often, but I'm sending out a plea to Republican Liberty Caucus members and supporters nationwide to do what they can to help keep Justin Amash in Congress.

The best way to donate is through his 48-hour moneybomb which ends tomorrow. You can donate at AmashforCongress.com.

I wanted to update you about the progress being made in the Gary Johnson campaign, as well as opportunities to get involved.

The Gary Johnson 2012 web store is now open!  Please consider purchasing a lawn sign, bumper sticker, and/or t-shirt to show your support for Governor Johnson, help raise his name recognition, and to help us raise much needed funds:
http://www.garyjohnson2012.com/buy-stuff

I also wanted to make sure everyone was aware that each state has its own Facebook fan page, and many Facebook groups. A list of the fan pages, so we can get you connected to our network, is at http://www.facebook.com/govgaryjohnson?sk=app_137331002992480

As you probably know, the campaign is focusing very sharply on New Hampshire.  Governor Johnson's campaign manager put together a plan called the "New Hampshire Path" under which he hopes to get Governor Johnson's support into the 5-10% range.  But we need funds, and to help with that supporters of Gary Johnson have organized a "money bomb" to take place November 5th.  I know everyone is pretty tight on money right now, but if you can spare $10, $25, $50 or more please consider investing in the future freedom of our country.  This campaign is running on a shoestring budget and every little bit helps enormously:
http://www.moneybombtoendallmoneybombs.com/

Finally, the campaign has announced more dates for live video chat parties with the Governor, dubbed "House Hangouts."  It's a great way to introduce your friends to Governor Johnson and get your questions answered.  People who have hosted these hangouts have been encouraged by the great discussion it generated, and everyone has come away with a greater respect for Governor Johnson.  If you would like to host a hangout with your friends or family, please sign up for one of the dates at the website:
http://www.garyjohnson2012.com/connect/hangouts

Additionally, each state now has a state contact, so you can get involved locally: http://www.garyjohnson2012.com/state-contacts

Thank you so much for your interest in the Gary Johnson 2012 campaign!

Free Speech and Free Commerce Online Are In Peril

We don't do this often, but we're calling on all Republican Liberty Caucus members and anyone who values their liberty to take action and call their representatives in the House and Senate to express the strongest possible opposition to two bills which would  allow large media businesses to shut down virtually any website with nothing more than an unfounded accusation and no due process of law whatsoever.

The Senate bill is the “Preventing Real Online Threats to Economic Creativity and Theft of Intellectual Property Act” (S 968).

In the House it’s the “Stop Online Piracy Act” (HR 3261).

In an effort to go after media piracy these bills are so broadly written that they  would allow anyone owning a copyright to accuse any website of infringing that copyright and shut the website down preemptively, actually scrubbing its IP address from the internet, all with no due process or hearing of any evidence or ruling from a court, treating the owner of the site as guilty until he could prove his innocence, likely at a considerable cost in legal fees.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation has made its concern over the potential for abuse in these acts very clear, and has raised a further concern. They believe that fear of unmerited shutdowns under the act will lead to excessive self-policing by frightened service providers, stifling free speech and many forms of commerce on the internet. They describe SOPA as "the worst piece of legislation we've seen in the last decade."

The freedom to innovate and to engage in entrepreneurial creativity which the intenet has empowered is genuinely under threat from the proliferation of this kind of legislation.  As the United States has lost the lead in traditional manufacturing, we have seen most of our growth in the online business sector.  This is where the jobs of the new millenium are and it is where most of the hope for economic recovery lies.  PROTCT IP and SOPA will have a chilling effect on this increasingly important sectory of the economy and lead to wholesale violations of the privacy rights of individuals and businesses.  It’s another bad idea from a government which has become too big and too eager to interfere in every aspect of our lives.

Pro-Liberty members of Congress led by Representative Ron Paul will be leading opposition to these bills and they need your support.  For more information on this issue and to email and call your representatives, please go to the Republican Liberty Caucus site.

Act Today to Tell the Super Committee to Cut Spending

and Not Raise Our Taxes - Midnight is the Deadline

The unconstitutional Super Committee has until midnight tonight to decide how to resolve our debt crisis. President Obama, Congressional Democrats and socialist organizations like MoveOn.org are pushing for tax increases instead of spending cuts. They are demanding as much as a $1.6 trillion increase in taxes, targeting the most productive Americans, hitting entrepreneurs and small businesses particularly hard.

Ron Paul said of the Super Committee "You don’t get out of the problem of having too much debt by allowing Congress to spend a lot more. It never made any sense to me; it just digs the hole much deeper and then it gets harder for us to get out."

Although there are two strong RLC-endorsees on the committee, Co-Chairman Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) and Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA), they are under enormous pressure to cave in and authorize tax increases. Toomey has even put forward a plan which trades larger cuts than those previously proposed for some tax increases. But the real problem is that it takes only a majority vote to pass a plan out of the Super Committee, which means that only one Republican has to vote with Democrats to raise taxes.

What's more, in addition to raising taxes, Democrats on the committee want to give more money to Obama to launch even more phony stimulus and prop up companies which ought to take responsibility for their own mistakes and not lay their risk off on the taxpayers.

This makes it vitally important for us to remind every member of the committee, especially the Republicans that taxpayers have had enough. We don't want more debt and we don't want more taxes. We want bigger tax cuts and we want them now, not spread out over a decade where their impact is offset by ongoing interest.

The Super Committee will be voting on Monday and sending their report to Congress on Wednesday. If they cannot come up with a plan which is acceptable to Congress then automatic cuts of $1.2 trillion will be implemented. It would be better for them to come to no agreement at all and submit no plan than to offer one which doesn't have at least $1.2 trillion in cuts and no increase in taxes.

We need you to write the members of the SuperCommittee today so that when they call their offices on Monday before they vote their staff will tell them that the people want them to hold the line and make big cuts and not give in to demands for tax increases.

Write them and make sure your email insists on a minimum of $1.2 trillion in spending cuts and no increase in taxes.

Please go to the RLC website and use our form to email your Senators and Representatives and tell them to demand that  the Super Committee not raise taxes.  It would also help to take a few minutes to call to each member of the Super Committee and leave a message reminding them that we can't afford to pay more for bailouts and failed stimulus programs.

The 12 member Super Committee:
Sen. Patty Murray, (D-WA) Co-chair - Call 202-224-0238
Rep. Jeb Hensarling, (R-TX) Co-Chair - Call 202-226-4888

And, Doug, I knew that George would sign anything handed to him by Cheney.

BTW, having been a former "soldier", I really beg to differ as to what exactly the DoD is defending, except, perhaps, its own budget.

As far as "defending" this or that government, I think it goes way back, in the "wayback machine", back to 1913.

The year the Federal Reserve Act and the Income Tax were instituted. Paper money and class warfare.

And now, it's 100 years later. No faith, man.

You know in your heart that Obama will sign any cuts for the DoD, but will veto any for liberal sacred-cow programs. Unless the Republicans put that bill forward without a severability clause, Obama will just be getting everything he wants. Come to think of it, the man has already demonstrated that he fears no court findings against him. He'll do something extralegal, if not totally illegal, to get his way. We all knew the Super Committee was designed to fail, but that even in a fail, the Democrats get more of what they want than Republicans can get. You know that Republicans would have fought tooth and nail to guard the DoD, while the Democrats will offer up only token programs that are not actually benefitting any unionistas or liberals. Gone will be anything that benefits conservatives; protected will be anything that benefits the Left. It was all a set up, and I called it that back when the news of the Super Committee was first aired this past summer. I have absolutely no faith in this government whatsoever, not after it came to light that Congress can do insider trading with impunity. No faith, man. No faith. Rule of law? Shot to hell and not coming back.

Well, the Super Committee did fail.  Now we just need to make sure that the Congress follows through on the promised "mandatory" cuts.

Dave,

Wait, watch and see, but wait until after the 2012 elections. Big speeches, followed by forked tongues.

;^P

Best regards,
