What We Are Fighting For

Dear Jeff,

I've received numerous questions about the narrator in our new ad. Yes, it is Morgan Freeman, and I am excited to have his help fighting back against our incumbent's attacks.

I've had great respect for Mr. Freeman for a long time, especially when I saw this video with his inspired introduction to our Declaration of Independence.

In the above video, Mr. Freeman does a better job than anyone I've seen explaining why, exactly, this election is so important.

Even though David Price is fighting against us with his distortionary ads, we must remember that we are fighting for the ideals that make this country great. This election is about advancing a federal government that lives up to the eternal ideals of our Declaration of Independence -- that every American individual has the God-given, inalienable right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

As your Congressman, I'll fight for to advance these ideals.

  • A federal government that lives within its means, and its constitutional mandate
  • No more bailouts, crony capitalism, or special favors for the politically-connected
  • Lower taxes so we keep more money in our communities to build our own businesses, and create our own jobs
  • Less federal spending so economic growth and jobs can flourish in the private sector, and so we can protect the value of our currency

Now for a quick update on Early Voting:

Fantastic news! Our GOTV targeting voters "not likely" to vote is paying off! As of this moment, we have turned out more "not likely" Republican and Unaffiliated voters than any other group. These are disaffected Americans who are voting against the status quo! Traditionally "Very likely" Republicans come out to vote on election day - if these trends continue we will win this election.

We need more television!

We have two more days to get out our message to the voters. With your help, we can buy more TV ads. Polls show us neck and neck with Price and his quarter-million dollar ad campaign isn't resonating with voters.

Watch our response -- then please, contribute to help us get this message on radio and television.

This is our final push. We have four more days to combat Price's lies, and your support is needed today. This will probably be one of the closest elections in the country.

In liberty,

B.J. Lawson

The Republican Liberty Caucus has drafted the following letter to Speaker-elect John Boehner supporting the appointment of Rep. Ron Paul to chair the House Financial Services Subcommittee.  We are inviting other grassroots activist and advocacy groups, both non-partisan and within the Republican party to join us in signing the letter.  Events are moving very quickly, so the sooner we can get interested groups signed on the better.  If you would like to be represented, please send an email to chairman@... and we'll add you to the list of signers.  Thanks.  DN.

Text of letter:

Dear Speaker-elect Boehner:

When word went out last week that you may seek to block Congressman Ron Paul's appointment as Chair of the House Financial Services Subcommittee, grassroots Republicans, Tea Party members and advocates of constitutionally limited government  were alarmed.   The implied message of such an action is one of indifference towards the concerns of those who helped move you into a position of power as Speaker of the House.  We urge you to reconsider.

The resounding message of November 2nd was not just a referendum on big-spending Democrats. It was also a signal to Republicans who have forgotten the principles of limited government and fiscal restraint on which the party was built. As a matter of ethics and integrity, we see no justification for preventing Congressman Paul from taking a position that he has earned, and for which he is uniquely qualified.

Congressman Ron Paul has has been an unyielding advocate of transparency, accountability, and fiscally conservative principles.  He has strongly opposed policies that have brought us to the brink of disaster. As Congressman Bill Posey (R-FL) aptly pointed out, "The depth of [Ron Paul's] knowledge on monetary policy, his understanding of it all, is second to none."  His message resonates with the grassroots who will continue to play a large role in the success of the Republican Party as they did in the recent election.

We are united in our belief that no one would be better qualified than Congressman Paul to head the Financial Services Subcommittee and we hope to see him in that position in January.  It is a position  where he will be able to make  important contributions to our nation's economic policies and move us toward the limited, accountable government voters are demanding.  We strongly urge you to give him that opportunity.

RLC Chair

I just reviewed today's emails and found one from The Union Label blog detailing the NLRB's desire to force employers to provide employees with information on how to unionize. It was sent on December 22, but I don't know why it took 3 days to post. Here is the link to the story: The Union Label

More important is this link: NLRB Notice for Rulemaking -- which seeks comments from the public from December 22, 2010 through February 22, 2011. I suggest that we all consider this rule proposal and submit our individual comments while we have the opportunity to do so. Further, I suggest that the RLC provide a comment as well. I do believe that all the conservative and libertarian think tanks will be submitting carefully crafted letters in opposition to this new rule.

On a tangential note, it seems to me that perhaps conservatives or libertarians might consider creating their own unions to oppose or supersede those of the liberals. Then, perhaps, we could funnel workers' dues to liberty candidates instead of to Democrats. Why should unionism always be a liberal's game. Just a thought.

I need help to compile a really excellent list and need some input.
Email me what you think are the five most important things that happened
this past year which advanced liberty and the five worst things which
happened for liberty during the year.

One obvious inclusion is the TSA Crackdown. On the other side an
obvious leader is the election.

This is on a deadline, so throw ideas at me.

Seattle Business Refuses To Serve TSA Agents

Paul Joseph Watson
Infowrs.com
February 23, 2011

A Seattle cafe has sensationally banned TSA workers from entering its business premises, refusing service as a consequence of the odious reputation the agency has required in the aftermath of a nationwide revolt against invasive pat down procedures and naked body scanners.

As a symbolic protest against “enhanced pat down procedures” that involve TSA agents literally touching the genitalia of passengers, including young children, the boss of a cafe near Seattle-Tacoma International Airport has blacklisted TSA workers in retribution for their role in eviscerating the Fourth Amendment and assaulting all notions of decency.

“We have posted signs on our doors basically saying that they aren’t allowed to come into our business,” cafe worker KC McLawson told Christopher Elliott. “We have the right to refuse service to anyone.”

My boss flies quite a bit and he has an amazing ability to remember faces. If he sees a TSA agent come in we turn our backs and completely ignore them, and tell them to leave.

Their kind aren’t welcomed in our establishment.

A large majority of our customers — over 90 percent — agree with our stance and stand by our decision.

We even have the police on our side and they have helped us escort TSA agents out of our cafe. Until TSA agents start treating us with the respect and dignity that we deserve, then things will change for them in the private sector.

As we have documented, TSA workers have proven themselves time and time again to be prone to predatory criminal behavior, the exact opposite psychological profile that is suitable for eople involved with airport security. Perhaps this is why they are almost universally loathed by the Americans people and why many airports are trying to turf out the agency entirely and replace TSA workers with private screeners.

Over the past few years, TSA agents have been caught in numerous acts of criminality and abuse of their positions, including;

- Stealing thousands of dollars of cash and other valuables from airport travelers
- Repeated assault of passengers and their own TSA colleagues
- Drug abuse while on the job leading to maniacal bouts of screaming and insane power trips
- Stealing laptops and other expensive electrical items
- Sabotaging sensitive screening databases
- Offensive jokes about planting drugs on travelers
- Hundreds of cases of forcefully groping travelers, exposing breasts, removing sanitary towels from vaginas, and brazenly targeting attractive women for enhanced screening and sexual abuse
- Abducting and sexually assaulting women
- Multiple sex crimes targeting underage minors
- Downloading thousands of child porn images
- Abusing naked body scanners to sexually harass female colleagues and taunt male colleagues about the size of their penis

Given the nature of that list, and it’s barely scratching the surface, it’s hardly surprising that businesses across America are starting to blacklist TSA agents and refuse them service.

On the flip side, the list also explains why prank callers who contact the TSA about job opportunities while pretending to be sexual perverts, porn addicts and pedophiles are also treated seriously by TSA staffers.

TSA workers have earned a reputation not too far removed from Nazi troops who occupied Europe during world war two, many of whom were treated similarly in that some businesses refused to serve them even under threat of arrest.

The motivations of someone who wants to apply for a job that involves them sexually molesting the bodies of young children and ogling naked images of people’s genitalia tells you everything you need to know about the psychological disposition of any TSA worker, before they’ve even got the job.

Legislation aimed at making the misuse of body scanners a federal crime punishable by a $100,000 fine and a year in jail is a start, but the only real solution that will end the tyranny of the TSA is to disband the agency entirely and confine it to the scrap heap of post-9/11 paranoia.

I've been in touch with media outlets in NH and they are feeling the pressure from concerned Americans who want to hear from a variety of Presidential candidates.  It would help if they continued to hear from concerned voters who want to hear from all GOP contenders.

Would you take a few minutes of your time today to call the following media outlets to ask that Governor Gary Johnson be included in the CNN/WMUR/NH Union-Leader debate on June 13 in Manchester, NH?

Some of you may prefer other candidates -- and that's fine.  This is more fundamental: Should the media be permitted to exclude certain candidates from debates using biased criteria?  If so, voters will be exposed to fewer ideas resulting in less choice in primary elections.

* For WMUR, call 603-669-9999 or email amcdevitt@... and cmelcher@...
* For the NH Union-Leader, call 603-668-4321 (redirect to the News Room) or email publisher@... and NorthVillageMedia@...
* For CNN, call 404-827-1500 or text CNN (space) and your news tip

These outlets have all sorts of excuses as to why Governor Johnson was excluded.  The most basic reply to all of their objections is that a former state Republican governor should automatically gain inclusion.  Additionally, CNN used polling criteria but never included Gary Johnson as a polling option.  Of course he didn't gain 2% in a poll he was not included in.  Finally, the debate organizers invited non-candidates like Donald Trump and Rudolph Giuliani to debate, who did not meet their listed criteria.

Five minutes of your time would go a long way toward GOP debate fairness.

Thanks,
Aaron

Why do people continue to insist that it must be one or the other?  The RLC's bylaws don't demand a singular choice, so I see no reason they couldn't back BOTH candidates.  Both are a good choice, and there is no reason to discount the other in any way.

I'm surprised again that people in the "liberty movement" keep wanting to take away a choice on such an important issue...

It's called campaign 101.   You get behind the person you want to see win. You run a text book campaign and work and run the race to win.   You don't "dilute" your base vote or efforts, nor get your focus off of pushing your candidate and achieving victory in the election by getting distracted.

If someones choice and candidate is Gary, then fine, back him and run a race to win.

I've been on top of this since day 1 of Ron having announced his retirement.    There are numerous candidates and people coming out of the woodwork wanting to run for it.

Several wanting to run don't even live in the district!   Many opportunist are out there.

There are 2 wanting to run who have all but become "perennial" candidates in Houston, running for races they have no shot in Hades of winning.

One of the guys who ran against Ron in the primary last time, John Gay, is running again.

There is a state rep wanting to run, who also DOESN'T live in the district, nor does hardly any of his current state rep district overlap the congressional.

Another candidate, Michael Truncale is a lawyer from Beaumont who is tied to the upper echelon of politics in Texas. He just did a fundraiser for Gov. Perry at his HOUSE a couple weeks ago. I found out that after redistricting put his county, Jefferson Co in Beaumont, Tx into Ron's CD14 he was already planning to run AGAINST Ron to defeat him in the primary!!!

Former Congressman Steve Stockman is going to run.   The new CD14 is very similar and about 80% of the former CD9 that Stockman used to represent.  It's almost like they put his old district back together again, but it's more Republican than before.

When I was a campaign chairman in Ron's district for his "come back from the political graveyard race", as I like to label it ;) , in 1996, then Freshman Congressman Steve Stockman was the ONLY Congressman who stood and backed Ron!   Everyone in the party from DC to Texas was being "forced" to back and get behind D to R party switcher Congressman Laughlin.

I remember when Ron's race was over in the primary, that everyone was then going to go over to Galveston to help campaign for Stockman.     Was an unusual election due to redistricting being done by the courts, and D-Lampson was able to win in a special election runoff. Stockman actually WON the general in November.  In 94 Stockman was able to defeat a 30 year democrat incumbent Jack Brooks.  Then the mid cycle court redraw changes the lines in 96.

From who I know is running or talking about running.   Stockman would be the best person to get behind to try and save Ron's seat!

Fine, let individuals choose who they're going to put their efforts behind.

Frankly, I'm just sick of the idea that everyone must be forced to draw a line in the sand of Paul or Johnson, which has led to too many Paul supporters demanding everyone support Paul as "the candidate most likely to win."  It's like the "liberty movement" of 2011 is the establishment of 2007.

Shall I send this out to the activist base as I did the last time?  Last time we also had contact
info for the local paper which was involved and CNN so people could call directly.  Is that worth
doing?

It's just way too early to commit to anyone.  We throw away political capital by being too early and too easy.  No one who matters cares who we endorse until we get closer to an actual primary.

Michael, the Texas RLC has been discussing this and other races in detail for several weeks.  If you're on Facebook I'll add you to our Liberty Candidates group.  We're strongly opposed to Truncale and trying to figure out how best to stop him. Gay may take votes away from him and that could create an opportunity for a more liberty-oriented candidate. Stockman is one appealing option.  Some also like Faulk.  I'd rather have just one of them running.  Let the establishment split its votes, not us.

Timeline of FDA raids against farmers, health clinics and dietary supplement providers- 1985, July 7. FDA agents raid the Burzynski Research Clinic (Texas), steal 200,000 medical and research documents, and force Dr. Stanislaw Burzynski to pay for copies to be made of them. No official charges are ever filed by the FDA (http://www.myopia.org/fdaraids.htm).

- 1987, February 26. Twenty-five armed FDA agents and US Marshals storm offices of the Life Extension Foundation (Florida), terrorize employees and seize thousands of nutritional products, materials, computers, files, and newsletters. Eighty percent of seized items are later determined not to even have been on the warrant (http://www.naturalnews.com/021791.html).

- 1988, November. FDA agents raid Traco Labs (Illinois), seize several drums of black currant oil as well as many containers of encapsulated product. The FDA claims the capsules the oil was being put into are an "unapproved food additive" (http://www.drpasswater.com/nutritio...).

- 1998, Summer. FDA agents seize entire inventory and business records of Pets Smell Free (Utah), a company that produces a natural product for eliminating pet odor. The company later wins a lawsuit against the FDA in court (http://www.myopia.org/fdaraids.htm).

- 1990, October 6. Federal agents raid HA Lyons (Arizona), a women-run, home-based mailing service that publishes materials for vitamin companies. Armed agents seize all business records and literature, and even try to steal the owner's checkbook and cash. The FDA eventually drives the company out of business (http://www.myopia.org/fdaraids.htm).

- 1990, Fall. FDA agents raid Highland Laboratories (Oregon), a company that produces vitamins and nutritional supplements. The agents do not present a warrant, but proceed to seize everything except for office furniture, and threaten employees with violence if they fail to comply (http://www.myopia.org/fdaraids.htm).

- 1990, March. FDA agents raid Solid Gold Pet Foods (California), seize all pet food products without a warrant, and shut down the store. Owner Sissy Harrington-McGill is later indicted, and spends 179 days in prison with leg irons clasped to her legs (http://www.naturalnews.com/021791.html).

- 1990. Agents from both the FDA and US Postal Service twice raid Century Clinic (Nevada), and steal chelation products, computers, and various other equipment. No official charges are ever filed against the clinic, however both illegal raids go unpunished (http://www.naturalnews.com/021791.html).

- 1991, Fall. FDA agents raid Scientific Botanicals (Washington), a nutritional supplement company, and seize herbal extracts and literature. FDA strong-arms company into complying with its unlawful demands before agreeing to release seized products (http://www.myopia.org/fdaraids.htm).

- 1991, December 12. RDA agents raid Thorne Research (Idaho), and seize $20,000 worth of vitamin products, and 11,000 pieces of literature. The company cannot afford to fight the battle in court because of high legal costs, and decides to no longer publish literature (http://www.myopia.org/fdaraids.htm).

- 1992, May 6. Agents from the FDA and officers from the King County Police Department raid the Tahoma Clinic (Washington), a natural health clinic. Because Dr. Jonathan Wright has been giving patients injectable B vitamins in high doses, agents decide to storm the clinic with guns drawn, and seize product, computers, records, and other products. The FDA shows no valid warrant to justify its actions (http://www.naturalnews.com/021791.html).

- 1992, June 2. FDA agents raid the personal home of Mihai Popescu (California) for producing and selling a natural supplement called GH-3. The raid involves agents stealing $5,000 worth of GH-3, personal records, computers, and other equipment, and results in the false arrest and imprisonment of Popescu, as well as the termination of his business (http://www.myopia.org/fdaraids.htm).

- 1992, June. The FDA prompts the Texas Department of Health to conduct raids on numerous health food stores throughout Texas. Don't Believe the Hype.  Meet the Real Rick Perry
Republican Liberty Caucus of Texas Sends Warning to Republicans Nationwide About Perry's Tax and Spend Record

AUSTIN, TX - Texas Governor Rick Perry may be the flavor of the day for a lot of Republicans, but Texas Republicans who are familiar with his record are a lot less enthusiastic about his presidential run.  "Perry has a unique talent for finding new ways to raise taxes and loves to use taxpayer money to subsidize his business cronies," says Secretary Dave Nalle of the Republican Liberty Caucus of Texas.  "His supposed belief in limited government and states rights conveniently disappears whenever it conflicts with the demands of the special interests and corporate cronies who he serves."

Governor Perry's record of big government, big spending, big taxing and attacks on the fundamental rights of Texas citizens is a familiar to Texans, but seems to be much less well known to Republicans outside of the state, which may explain his high initial showing in the polls.  The Republican Liberty Caucus of Texas is compiling a complete dossier on Perry to share with fellow Republicans outside their state so that they can be informed about what they are being sold in a Perry presidential candidacy.

The file on Perry's abuses of power, insider deals with cronies and tax and spend policies is thick, but for a start here are what Texas RLC members voted as the top five Perry scandals which GOP primary voters need to know more about:

    1. Business Slush Funds: Perry made heavy use of business incentive "slush funds" which used taxpayer dollars to subsidize selected businesses, many of them run by his major campaign contributors.  Just two of these funds, the Texas Enterprise Fund and the Texas Emerging Growth fund, spent over $700 million to subsidize businesses to move to Texas or expand operations in Texas, with little evidence that these handouts of taxpayer money produced job or revenue growth anywhere near sufficient to justify the expense.  In fact, many of these businesses eventually downsized or relocated long before they had earned the money Perry gave them, or even went bankrupt with $25 million fund dollars like Countrywide Financial. source
    2. Toll Roads and Land Seizures Perry has never met a toll road project he wasn't willing to seize huge amounts of private land for and then give the exclusive management contracts to foreign corporations.  Perry's time in office has set records for eminent domain land seizures - over a million acres have been seized.  His toll road projects have confiscated family farms and torn communities apart.  Toll roads have been used as a massive off-the-books tax program, taking money from Texas drivers and feeding it to foreign financial interests and management groups which lobbied the governor for special deals which produce much higher tolls and higher profits than are typical in other states. source
    3. Forced Vaccinations: In 2007 Perry issued an executive order which would have forcibly vaccinated every girl in Texas entering the sixth grade with Merck's Gardasil vaccine for Human Papilloma Virus.  This massive violation of the privacy rights of Texas teenagers and their parents would have come at a cost of $360 in taxpayer money per shot.  It would have been a huge windfall for Merck, which had paid Perry's former Chief of Staff $250,000 to lobby the governor and legislature to promote the forced vaccination program. source
    4. The Job-Killing Franchise Tax: Knowing that it would be impossible to pass an income tax against popular opposition in Texas, Perry promoted the idea of a special business tax called the "Franchise Tax" which taxes businesses at different arbitrary rates set by the government.  This tax expands business taxes to types of businesses which are not taxed in most states and in many cases taxes small businesses more than large corporations they compete with.  For example it taxes small car repair shops at double the rate it taxes large dealerships for car repairs.   It's a small business and job killer. source
    5. Scuttled the Anti-TSA Bill When Rep. David Simpson led the Texas legislature towards passage of an enormously popular bill (HB1938) to hold the TSA accountable for intrusive searches of airline passengers, Perry played a key role in making sure that the bill was not passed.   When the TSA and the Justice Department began pressuring him, although Perry had promised to submit the bill to the special legislative session, he delayed submitting the bill until it was so late in the session that it was virtually impossible to hold the constitutionally mandated votes necessary for passage.  That way he could score points with the public for submitting the popular bill while at the same time making sure that it wouldn't pass.  It's a classic example of Perry's insincere pandering. source

Don't be fooled by campaign hype.  If Perry says he'll cut taxes or get government off our back, look up his real record.  Look up his past statements.  He supported TARP.  He supported the bailouts.  He was even Al Gore's Texas campaign manager back in 1988.  A vote for Perry in the Republican primary is a vote for more big government and more taxes and more of the the same deficits and irresponsibility we had for 12 years under Bush and Obama.  The Republican Party and the nation need real leadership, not more of the same with a nicer head of hair.

RLC of Texas Chairman Judson Vandiver asks, "Let's hope Republicans outside Texas see through all the hype.  Let's all say to to Perry what he said to a Texas state trooper when he tried to bully her after she pulled him over for speeding YouTube: 'Why don't you just let us get on down the road?'"

Hi all,
Just wanted to know if any of the national officers would like to address the
strategy for endorsements. What can the RLC gain by endorsing candidates who
may be unaware of our existence? What do we hope to provide the candidate by
our endorsement?

One way we've thought about this in Colorado, is a focus strategy. Picking one
or two libertarian Republican candidates for state house who are in swing
districts and put as much in to those few races (voluteers and financial
resources) as we can. Raising our profile with those campaigns and making our
endorsement count.

Not knocking any other aproach but looking for some discussion on the thinking
at the national level.

Thanks,

At the very least we gain positive exposure by endorsing candidates, while they gain some legitimacy by having an endorsement.  We can publicize that we have endorsed and that helps spread word about their campaign and at the same time get us some exposure.  An endorsement announcement will often get picked up by state and local press and you can include in it some explanation of the issues which we're interested in which we have in common with the candidates.

Later in the process we can also promote endorsed candidates to our members and associates on a state or wider basis to encourage them to donate to those candidates and help with the financing of their campaigns.

Just a comment or so.

Gerrymandering in Dallas single member districts for city council is being challenged by local advocates to allow more racially-balanced districts. Local elections count in large metropolitan areas because they're stepping-stones to higher state and federal offices.

I wonder if this is happening in any other large MSAs. Some outreach to "minority" candidates and/or perceived "leaders" in local areas could lead to future fruit. Just trying to think ahead.

My 2 cents for now,

Barry
