Jay Decker has completed converting the September, October,
November and December 1986 issues of RC Soaring Digest to
PDF.
These four issues will be available for downloading from Jay's
server until the end of June. The URL is
<http://www.rchomepage.com/~jdecker/RCSD/>.
A quick reminder: The 1989 issue PDFs will remain on this
server only until the end of this month, so make sure you've
downloaded them before the first of June.
RCSD issues from 1987 and 1988 are next on Jay's conversion
list. These files are planned to be on-line by the end of the year.
Our sincere thanks to Jay for all of his hard work!
We made a nominal error in our posted highlights of the June issue of
RCSD which we sent out last night.
>- Jay Decker and David Coleman fly their 8-hour slope tasks
That should read "Jay Decker and David Portwood fly their 8-hour slope tasks"
Terry Coleman, wife of Doug Coleman, and Amy Pool took photos during
the day. We somehow got the wrong names in the posted message. The
web page and issue PDF are correct.
Our apologies for any confusion, and our thanks to Kirby Parker,
timer for both pilots, for pointing out the error.

The September 2004 issue of RC Soaring Digest is now
available for downloading. This issue is 22 pages in length and
is filled with photos. As a result, the PDF is 2662K in size. This is
a bit larger than usual, but still reasonable for those with dial-up
accounts. Go to <http://www.b2streamlines.com/RCSD.html>
and download the linked file.
This issue not only includes articles by Tom Nagel, Gordy Stahl,
and Mark Drela, but also features the return of Gregory
Vasgerdsian to the pages of RCSD. Additionally, Mark Nankivil
shares some detail photos of the CG-4A "Hadrian" military glider
in the Air Force Museum in Dayton Ohio. The highlights of this
issue are posted at
<http://www.b2streamlines.com/highlights.html>.
If you have problems accessing pages or files, please let us
know.
The August issue of RC Soaring Digest is now available for
downloading from the RCSD web site
<http://www.b2streamlines.com/RCSD.html>. The PDF file is
just slightly over 1.0 MB in size, so should be a relatively fast
download even for those with dial-up ISP accounts.
The articles in this issue cover a wide gamut - from technical
articles to caring for foamies to a photo essay. Check out the
highlights page <http://www.b2streamlines.com/highlights.html>
for more information.
Bunny and I are temporary editors and have set up a special
e-mail address for criticisms, kudos and submissions. It's
<rcsdigest@...>.
We hope you enjoy the results of our first efforts at putting RCSD
together!
The RCSD Team makes every attempt to have the cover date
issue in PDF format and available for download by the 20th of
the prior month. In the case of the August issue, it was to be
on-line on or before the 20th of July.
Due to circumstances beyond our control, the August issue is
delayed and we are now anticipating a "publication" date during
the first week in August. A notice of availability will be posted to
this group.
We apologize for this inconvenience and will be working toward
getting back on schedule with the September issue.
Thanks for your understanding.

Some group members have let us know they are having
problems downloading the RCSD 1984 PDFs.
We have two user names on Yahoo!; one as moderator and
another as a basic member. This allows us to run the group as
moderator, but receive messages and still have access to the
Files, Polls and other features without the extra "powers."
After uploading the twelve PDF files, we switched to our second
user name and made sure group members could download the
PDFs we as moderators had just uploaded. Additionally, several
members have successfully downloaded at least one of these
PDFs before running into problems.
The cause of the difficulty is that Yahoo! has a download limit for
each group's Files section. Depending on your browser, the
error message may say that the download limit has been
exceeded, or that you simply don't have access to the files.
We have so far been unable to determine what the download
limit is, nor have we been able to find out how often the
download counter is reset.
Regardless of the errror message you receive, be assured the
files are on the Yahoo! server and can be downloaded by all
members of the RCSoaringDigest group.
We encourage you to be persistent and continue to retry
downloading the PDFs at intervals.
RC Soaring Digest was started by Jim Gray in 1984 as a monthly
newsletter devoted to RC Soaring and sailplanes and to the
pilots who fly them.
The RCSD Team is pleased to announce the availability of the
entire twelve issue first year of RC Soaring Digest as a series of
downloadable PDF documents.
Access to the RCSD 1984 collection is open only to members of
the RCSoaringDigest group at Yahoo!
Simply go to <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/RCSoaringDigest/>
and click on Files in the menu column.
Ooops! The RCSoaringDigest poll settings were set to the
wrong configuration, allowing only the group moderators to vote.
This error has been rectified, and all group members can now
vote in the existing poll.
Go to the RCSoaringDigest group home page and click on Polls
in the left column. Then click on the poll description or the "vote"
link to see the ballot and place your vote.
