Description
REACh stands for Restoring Equal Access to school Choice This group of parents and neighbors of No. Capitol Hill, Roanoke Park, and Eastlake are working with Seattle Public Schools to ensure our kids have school choices(including a real reference school)—something every other Seattle neighborhood has. We've published this pamphlet to explain the issues in detail. School assignments are based on choice, but the kids in our neighborhoods have NO choice at all...last year kids in the Stevens reference area received mandatory assignments. This year promises to be much worse at Montlake and Stevens. To our knowledge there is no other part of the city with wholesale mandatory assignments. How did this happen? In the past few years, Seattle Schools reappropriated schools that used to serve our neighborhoods and never replaced the capacity they took away. They did this at the same time that growing numbers of people were moving into the city and starting families.
