Proto-Layouts is for modelers with an interest in building prototype-based model railroads. We operate on the principle of group ownership without restrictions on topics or message content; each member of the group has the right to express his or her opinions on any and all topics and subjects that may come up here.

We want the concept of collective ownership of the group to allow a minimum of rules. Everyone should feel free to post pretty much whatever they find of interest without worrying about getting dinged for language, straying off topic or forgetting to change subject lines, delete extraneous data like embedded photos, etc-but doing so and avoiding a lot of foul language without strategically placed *asterisks* fall within the general guidelines of mutual repect and consideration.

It also bears mention that while there are few rules, mutual consideration also demands that we refrain from personal attacks, straying too far off the general topic of prototypical model railroading...stuff like partisan political statements and arguments that are unrelated to the main topic at hand. Getting to know one another on a personal level is entirely appropriate, as is bragging about good kids you may happen to be related to.

When subscribing, new members do need to include a note about their interests and why they want to join as we try to guard this list against spammers.
