Hi Folks,

I would be most appreciative if you could arrive promptly and be present for
this
Tuesday's class. My teaching will be evaluated for the first, and possibly only
time,
at Vista and we are such a small class each one of your opinions counts.

The evaluation will be roughly from 1-2pm and afterwards we will be going on
Khalid's shoot at Lake Merritt.

Enjoy the weekend and I am so pleased with the work and attitude you all bring
to
the class. A special thanks to Joe for doing the contact list.
Please bring your rushes to class, including those of you who shot outside lab
time
over break.

Hi Folks,

Two opportunities to work on shoots outside of class
in the upcoming week:

1) Monday April 25, 4:30-10pm Berkeley Rep Theatre.
Vista is hosting an Asian Celebration with dancing,
singing, music and Food! We need at least 5 folks to
do camera and audio. I will be there to supervise and
we can use class equipment. This is an important and
fun event - please let me know if you can crew. You
will also receive extra credit for your work. Thanks,
Rachel

2) If you are interested in helping a fellow Vista
student - Joy - with lighting on her video project,
please contact her at zentaco@... or
510-864-7898. I don't know much about the project,
but believe she may be looking for someone who can
bring their own lights and work this w/e. Joy hasn't
taken the production class, but has produced a short
video.

I look forward to seeing you all in class this Weds.
HW:
We will further cover Directing, in terms of acting,
cinematography and audio. Please bring in any
outstanding assignments for the pre-production for
your shoots.
READ: Directors Speak in the back of your reader.
WRITE: 1 page response, what you learn/inspires you

Whooee, folks, you've been a marvelous class. So
talented and engaged and hard working. I hope I'll see
many of you intro students in the Intermediate class
and all of you continuing to work in video.
Individually and as teams, you've done terrific work.

Attached is the list of what you need to include in
your binder and our home stretch schedule. For your
binder the evaluations of shoots are totally crucial.
There's a long list of binder paperwork and you may
omit a few that don't apply to your project and still
get a perfect grade (I include several more than what
would add up to 100.)

Intermediate Students: Please use the hand-out on
Pre-Production/Production/Wrap Responsibilities and
make a binder including all your pre-production work
and 1-2 page evaluations of each shoot you did.
Separate the different sections/1 p/shoot.
Refer to the Attachment for additional paperwork you
might include if you did your own shoot.

I"ll bring a sign up sheet for individual meetings to
the next lecture. Next lecture, I'll cover
distribution/edit prep and we'll watch Intermediate
and Intro Dailies.

Thanks again. It's been a joy working with you this
term.
Hope to see Intro folks promptly at lab today so that
you can do the class evaluations before getting to
work on Lael's and Randy's shoots.

Hello everyone. First, let me show you what positions I have
filled...

Art - Joe
Camera 1 - Kendrick
Camera 2 - Khalid
Audio - Adebisi
A.D. - Carlo

Unfortunately, Amelia, my audio lady, has another engagement(thank
you though for offering to help). Soooo, I'm looking for someone to
fill the audio position.

For those that missed the pre-production, it was fast and simple.
The script is 3 pages, almost all dialogue. The production has a
heavy dependence on the actor rather than on us, the crew. The actor
will have to deliver a fairly heavy monologue fairly perfectly and we
have 3 hours or so to obtain this. My actor is a friend, I still
have not managed to confirm that he will be able to make it although
I will say, it is looking promising.

Other than that, if anyone has any issues with making the shoot,
wants to fill a role that I may have overlooked, or needs a script or
more information to help them, please email me at
colinalley@... or call my cell 619-992-7861.

Thanks!

Hi Stars,

Here are opportunities to gain production experience
and in some cases, money, too. Also if people are in
dire need of an additional shooting credit for the
class, you can receive one if you do one of the
upcoming shoots.

1) Tuesday May 17 - Work as a Production Assistant on
a shoot in San Mateo. 8-12pm. $100. Contact Carlo at
carlofornia@....

2) I gave some of your numbers to a professional
videographer, Alan Duong. I don't know how it worked
out, but wanted to give you the heads up and say he's
terrific to work with, experienced and willing to pay
someone to help him. If you get the chance, do work
with him.

3)I need 2-4 volunteers to film the Vista Graduation
on Thursday, May 27 beginning at 6pm. If you need
extra credit in class, here's a way to get it.

4)Anybody interested in making a video for the
American cancer Society next Fall? Speak to me.

Hey Rachel:

Thanks for the info.  I'll definitely check into
renting the space free and clear, since airing footage
of the film actually might get us into trouble with
SAG.

As for the intern issue: we are actually looking
for boom operator, assistant camera, and possibly
gaffer.  We’ve got some really good professionals at
the key positions from whom the interns will be able
to learn a lot.  There might be other positions that
come up, certainly PAs, etc.  Feel free to share this
info with your students.  They can e-mail us at

A colleague and friend, Mike Sampayan, will be boxing
in Fairfield, CA. You would need to arrive by 5:30 pm
and bring your own camera. Mike will cover your
expenses/gas, food, tapes. I would love to find two
people/each on a camera to shoot the fight. You can
own the material so long as you give him a dub and get
releases (also from his rival.)

Please get back to me soon, if you're interested, and
I will give you tips and specifics. The event may last
until 10pm or could end significantly earlier.

Hope you're all enjoying your summer. I'll be in

Dear Pete,

you got it. I'm so glad you contacted me first. I
really hoped you would be one of the folks able to do
it.

As discussed, I'd like to put you in charge of
organising it. Try to find at least one other camera
and person to shoot with. Mike will cover all
expenses.

The set-up; get signed releases from fighters prior to
the fight!
Set up camera nearly at 180 degrees; each camera =full
ring but nothing wider than necessary. Definitey set
back at least one camera and shoot using telephoto.
Audio will be crazy loud and probably ok with camera
mic or basic shotgun.
My idea to make money: offer to shoot other boxers for
$40 p/fight? Put idea by Mike? Let me know if you need
help finding other folks to go w/ you.

I have found a really good web site for selling and trading. I want to
share it with everyone. The site is http://www.MYDREW.com ; They have a
really good social network feature where you can trade with friends,
classmates and friends of friends. Check it out, it's pretty cool.

So Tamra and I went shopping yesterday. We got some clothes that fit the underlying personality differences between the characters. Almost exactly as y'all described.

Andre- Green long sleeved shirt with two vertical stripes outside along each breast. I think it'll be slightly baggy on him even.
Bernd-(Oppossite) Orange long sleeved with horizontal stripe above the breast.
Carlo- (Combination of both) Green vest over an orange robot t-shirt (that I want after it's all over!)
Dirk- (WIld) has a hawiian shirt that contains none of the colors from either of the above shirts

Also Tamra got a t-shirt and long sleeve combo that she wanted to throw in for a different angle.

The whole thing cost 25 bucks-not bad. Couldn't find a eagle buckle but still on the prowl. I'll bring my awesome VW buckle Tuesday. Damn I'll be 30 by then?! See you soon-Pete also don't be afraid to call when I'm in San Diego they have stores down there too.

Dear Intermediate Students:
You are wonderful and it’s a joy working w/you.

I’ve traced the boards and we’ll have more readable
copies tomorrow. We switched our shot set-up list to
what I demonstrated in class. In a nutshell, below you
will find what’s most important for each of you to
keep up on tomorrow and what to expect:

RANDY: Camera Operator/Set Up as we discussed.
Additionally, Note on storyboard and shot list which
shots need OIS(to accompany all handheld), changes in
Camera Angle (and thus height) and some will be shot
from ladder. Please help me remember to bring LADDER,
Camping Mattress, and tarp when we get the Chairs.

CAMERA ASSISTANT/PA: Jason/Paulo
Slate, help randy adjust tripod, label tapes.

JIM/ROBERT/Jonothan: lavalier on Kiazad – try
underneath purple shirt w/ sponge cushion ON. Shotgun
on whoever is in focus on story board. MOS (mit out
sound) when I’m doing hand held running shots (so be
ready to unhook me.) Check boards and shot list
tomorrow.

GAVIN: note when shots are CU’s and Medium Shots,
especially on Mario/Abishek, for bouncing light.

HANNAH: If you can come at 10 am that would be
excellent, otherwise I’ll expect you as planned at
10:30.

PETE & TAMRA: Note when Belt is on/off. Prep the
mattress ontop of the tarp over the sand for Kiazad to
fall onto incase he slips. Wipe off perspiration from
Actors.

LARRY: Thanks for your help last week.
JONOTHAN, JASON, PAULO & GORDON:
I need a volunteer if anyone is available to make
copies of the storyboards tomorrow morning. My number
is 510-548-7664. Please call if you’re available.
Great help last week.

KIAZAD & MARIO: Mario wear same clothes as last week.
Kiazad shave carefully. Both of you bring your
preproduction material to the shoot and let’s discuss
your shooting dates tomorrow after the shoot.

I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow.
Thanks,
Rachel

Hey everybody whats up. i was wondering if anybody from the intro or
intermediate class has any information on any small privately owned
diners, coffee shops, or restaurants in the berkeley, emeryville, or
close by oakland areas preferably that arent officially opened until
11 or noon. The reason i ask is to secure a convenient and low risk
location for one scene of my shoot which is to take place within a
diner like setting. If anybody has any info whatsoever please email
me at this address. Id really appreciate it. Thanks

PS
To all the crew who i have asked to be on my team for this project,
i will schedule a meeting for all of us to get together and discuss
all the things we need to discuss which include the class shoot as
well as what the future will hold for the rest of the movie. Im
trusting in all of you to do some great work on this project and im
sure you guys will be up for it. I feel this is not just my project
but all of yours as well and i feel i couldnt have gotten a more
dependable crew than i have now. I really want you all to know how
happy and grateful i am that i am working with all of you. Its gonna
be alot of fun but alot of work so i hope you guys are up for it.
Talk to you soon
Randy
