As this fic has just been updated, I thought I'd recommend it.

Title:  The Unexpected Friend

Summary:  Harry and Severus are captured during Harry's 5th year. Not
related to OOTP. Harry and the remaining Marauders discover some of
Severus' hidden past.

My review:  This has some excellent Snape/Harry interaction.  I always
like to note when several excellent Snape writers are consistently and
positively reviewing a fic, and this is true for this one.  This was
started in 6/03 and is AU after GOF, but it's still a good read and
Snape is as IC as you can be only being canon through GOF.  As the
summary says, Harry and Severus are both captured.  They escape and
there's a lot on their escape in a wild forest, with various injuries
(serious), and plenty of h/c also.  So far it's 33 chapters.

Another excellent mentor fic is
Title:  Circumstance
Author:  Libellule
Rated:  M
Drama/Suspense  a mentor fic.  Lots of it is a sort of "road story" as
it takes place while traveling.
Summary:  Snape's position as a spy is compromised when Harry's life
is threatened. The beginnings of a journey together. NOT HBP COMPLIANT
ch22 quote: "Why did this happen?" Harry asked in frustration. "Why
now after all this time?"

My review:  Both Harry and Snape are pretty IC.  Snape helps Harry
escape Voldemort, thereby compromising himself.  Snape gets wounded
and is basically weakened throughout the story (at least to date).  He
has to take Harry into hiding and along the way there's lots of
mentoring and training, as well as suspense, drama, angst, h/c, etc.
Great interaction between Harry and Snape.  Excellent writing.  It
might be a bit weak the first couple of chapters, but it gets lots
better as it goes!  It's updated about once a month.

This summary just doesn't nearly do it justice.  This is a WIP, 27
chapters so far.  Excellent IC for all.  Mostly a Snape mentoring fic
with lots of adventure/drama thrown in.  Snape training Harry, lots of
action with other characters.  Very well done plot lines.  Believably
works as post-HBP theories, but more unusual.  Not the typical
post-HBP plot.  Great pacing, dialog, etc.  Also, angst, hc.

Give it a try.

I've noticed the same spam appearing on several yahoo group sites and
message boards.  My guess is that it's traveling through many of us HP fan's
who are on these sites.    If that's the way it's traveling, it might be
through many people's emails.  How do we deal with it, since it's likely
affecting lots of people now?   I'm only seeing this on yahoo groups so far.

That's the problem. Don't open the email called New Graphic Site. I don't think they hack into your system per se, I think it's more of a worm type thing, and it sends it to everyone in your address book. Or well, that's the best theory I have anyway.

Opps, Sorry. You also should delete the emails from inbox, and then go to the trash and delete them from there too. I forgot to say that last time. I notice when I sent an email earlier, that yahoo, had you do the whole type what you see in the box thing, however I haven't seen it since. Well as for me I am doomed really.  I opened this really stupid
thing yesterday as I had no idea what it was.

Yes, it is moving around like crazy.  But how are we to know
really?  I am not a computer expert.  When I see a notice with the
logo of the Yahoo Group in my mail I expected to open and see and
announcement from the group not a freaking thing.

The guy who did this really needs a life.

It's been joked that a lot of stories in the Severitus genre are never
completed. XD There are so many good stories out there with great
beginings but seem to be put on hold indefinitely. So what happened?
lack of time, lack of interest? Surely there must have been some
burning idea and motivation to start the story in the first place. So
how does one get that motivation back?

How do you end a story that has dried out without ruining the story
itself? Are there any hints or helpful suggestions of how to take an
open story and wrap it up? Do any lit/writing savvy people have an
instruction manual they'd like to share? :)

Please share! Maybe we'll be able to get some stories back up.

four chapters left to be concluded.  Next chapter is the most

overtook by horror over the last few weeks.  Even though all my
chapters are carefully planned, I could not bare to look at my
writings.  I just took a look at them and this was enough to make me
feel nauseous.

What I was feeling was fear of what was going to happen.  What if
the readers read the final chapter and said to themselves 'Gosh this
didn't deserved the two years of reading."  No I am serious, I was
overtaken by pure fear.

And then one night, while lying in bed I discovered that my hands
were so itching to write and continue that, being blunt, I didn't
care what others think.  It is my mental offspring anyway. ^_^

So I do believe writers are overtaken by fear in some way or the
other.  Lucky for me, I had also planned it on paper, some let their
spirit overtake them at first and at the end, during their panick,
they think they have screwed everything and just give up.  It is
sad, I know.

I don't think that that is sad at all. :) It makes a lot of sense though. I think that at some point writers just have to go "I don't care what others think" and just write the story. Caring too much and letting readers decide what happens next can just kill a story sometimes because you loose that cohesiveness of plot and intention.

Please don't be afraid to post the rest of your story!! I've followed this one closely ever since I found it and it's really good!! I've been dieing to see what happens next in Severus's and Harry's relationship!!! I think you've written a beautiful story and if you've gotten anything else to the contrary, just delete it!!!! Or...just ignore them!!!! You've got lots of fans here on this site and on other sites too! I've seen your story get rec'd on lot's of rec lists, and it's on a rec list I created for Shadowarwen's site too!!!! Don't ever give up!!!! That's a motto I send to all writers!!! Don't give up!!! Write your story for you, and if others love it, that's great, and if someone has nothing better to do than hurt you with a nasty review, just remember that they are probably jealous that they didn't do it themselves!!! I know that's not always the case...some people live to hurt someone else....but I hope you understand what I mean!!!! I can only imagine what makes some people abandon their fics after writing several chapters...my guess is that after they started it, it got be a hassle with having to update every 2 or 3 weeks, possibly not getting the reviews they thought they would get...not enough time to actually sit down and write, (although, why anyone would post a story, then suddenly realize they don't have the time to spend on it.....that's a bit irritating!!)...or they got one of those nasty reviews and got their feelings hurt. I got one of those myself on the first chapter of the fic I'm writing with a friend. And it wasn't even the story they didn't like, it was something I had said a long time ago about a subject that wasn't even going to be included in the fic...go figure!!!!

I'll give the links in a moment.  First my own review.  This
Severitus story doesn't really go by the original Severitus rules.
It was published after HBP and takes some new info from HBP into
account, but really the story starts after OOTP.  It is in three
parts, the last of which is a WIP.  There is some exceedingly
excellent writing in these stories, BUT the first one "Part the
First" gets confusing in some of the biggest action chapters.
Changing pov's during those chapters make it a bit hard going. If
you stick with it and make it through, this is a very, very good
story -- especially after "Part the First."

E.M.Pink writes a strong Harry, even though he eventually goes
through some very, very rough times when he gets captured by
Voldemort.  Snape is very IC.  Snape and Harry take a long while to
adjust to each other, but it is definitely worth it.

The references to "Tobias Snape" in the summaries below are not
Snape's father, but the name they have Harry use when he has to stop
being "Harry Potter" and becomes Snape's "nephew" in order to hide
and not let anyone know he's Snape's son.

I wish I had this secret formula to pass out to people and that
would make them continue all the way really but the thing is I
haven't.

In my case I do this basic stuff.

I let the story rest for awhile.  During my first big break in
chapter 16 'Mischief and Punishment' I used to write a chapter every
10 days.  And then between chapter 15 and 16 there was a 6 weeks
hiatus.  Now I must be honest here, and this may shock many, I had
writters block at that time.  And being my first writer's block, I
did what you will expect me to do.  I took a piece of paper and
waited for it to happen.  You know what happened?  Nothing, nadda,
tipote as we say in greek.  The paper remained blank and I got a
headache from watching the paper's lines.

A secret, ladies and gentlemen.  Your ideas are not pizzas.  You
cannot order them at any given moment and expect them to come.  If
you force yourself in such a way then 'zap' you are doomed.

What I did was to take a deep breadth and relax.  I read fanfics
apart from Harry Potter ones and this gave birth to another idea for
another fanfic.  Now writers have this weird manetality of 'What-the-
readers-will-say-if-i-write-something-else-instead-of-the-
continuation'  I, decided I did not care of that and I did write
what I felt I had to.  And presto I was writing the other fic, boom,
I had ideas of chapter 16.  So what I say is to take a break and
write something else.  It surely helps.

Also read random excerpts from the canon when you feel so.  It is
amazing how many times I was reading an excerpts and two lines gave
me an idea on how to proceed.  It is like new batteries.

Finally. the most difficult part, humour with your writing.  It is
weird but I have discussions with myself and I usualy comic on my
lousy attitude during this days.  Insted of sitting down and
brooding and self-pitying yourself, comment on it so much that you
will laugh at the end and feel ao much better.
