Oh my gosh. I just read the latest chapter of Apen in the
Sunlight's "A Year Like None Other".
Wow.
What an amazing fic! At first the story was a little average but the
last two chapters just blew me away. I love hurt/comfort and Mooly
says I like "emotional intense" stories so I think it's safe to
assume that the last few chapters had plenty of that! :) If you
haven't read this story yet I recommend that you do! It's not in my
archive yet but if the author keeps writing a similar quality for the
rest of the chapters I'll be putting five chocolate frogs on it when
I update my archive! It's a Mentor Snape fic if you're wondering.
A Year Like None Other by Aspen in the Sunlight

Rated R, WIP 29 chapters
Author's Summary: A letter from home sends Harry down a path he'd
never have walked on his own. Follows Order of the Phoenix. Rated R
for violence and disturbing imagery.
Warnings: Torture is in the story (around the middle I suppose since
it's a WIP)

Hiyas! :)
I just finished the I J K L M page! :) That's 84 fics! I checked out
every single story link so they should all work right. The fics that
I added to this page were deleted from the Broom closet.
I had 1500 hits on the home page sometime last night and 700 visitors
on the entrance page sometime yesterday! Yay me! :) *claps hands
happily*
Go read some fics!

If you have the problem of just the 'Horoscope ad' loading and not the story or any other part of the page then you just need to refresh. The dumb ad code seems to be messed up and sucked the real story page into it's code. I was able to tell because if you roll over the ad the dropdown opens with the page you are expecting to see.
You just need to refresh until you get a different ad.
Hope this helped,

Hey everyone. :)
I just checked every story on the active fic page. It's all up to
date now. http://www.geocities.com/jan_aq3//HP_FicUpdates.html
Imagine my happy surprise that Hand Me Down Clothes by Quillitch was
updated. Yay! Everyone must know of this fic already. ;) It's more of
a little Harry gets adopted by Dumbledore fic with bits of Snape in
it. Full of little boy angst, cuteness and fluff so if you like that
you must go read it. :)
Quillitch said that the final chapter will be posted soon and that
there may be a possibility of a sequel. Let's all review and try to
encourage it. :)

Hi. I didn't know if you had in your archive of stories, "Mine" and
"Snape's Vocation". They are Harry raised by Snape stories. Harry is five
and Snape takes him in. They are really good and non slash. They're on FFN
under Gillian M. Not sure of the last name, but I think these stories
should be added, cause they are wonderfully written and have great
Snape/Harry interaction. She just updated a couple of days ago. "Snapes
Vocation" is the most recent.
Thanks. And if you already have these, then sorry, but I didn't see them.
Carrie
Alright! Thank Carrie! That is exactly what I'm looking for. Mores fics I don't know about. :) I'll be sure to add them to the end of the list but I may sneak over and read them soon.
Thank you thank you!

Hey everyone. :)
I just uploaded chapter 5 of Muggleville to Fanfiction.net. I think
that this chapter is my favourite one. My two favourite characters
are introduced to each other. ;)

If you read it please review and let me know. :)
Jan
Hey everyone! :) This is a story finding notice. I stumbled upon this
story yesterday but the chapter today was really intense and I really
liked it.
To Be A Werewolf by Tia Evans
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1941294/1/
R - WIP 10 chapters
Author Summary: Answer to the Werewolf Challenge (see bio for
details). After finding out who his real father is Harry is bitten by
Moony and becomes a werewolf. "And here I thought we were going to
have a normal year...." Rating has gone up just to be on the safe
side!
Jan's notes: This is a Sevitus story :) and has some abuse by the
Dursley's. Tia Evans made up a challenge called "The Werewolf
Challenge". Sadly, I don't think that anyone else has answered it
besides her. The rules of the Werewolf challenge are that the story
has to center on Harry, Snape and Lupin, be after the 5th year,
Sirius has to come back somehow, Harry has to get bitten by Remus
after he finds out that either Snape or Remus is his real father and
is now a were. (It also can't be humor.)
Seems like an angst story. Harry is pretty much broken and Snape
doesn't seem to want to have anything to do with the boy... or does
he? I give extra points for showing the side of Snape not many are
able to capture, the wanna-smash-his-greasy-face-in-his-cauldron git
because he's Such a GIT!Snape.
But maybe is it really like that...
Only the author knows for sure, so go read it and review! Maybe
she'll update soon. :)
Jan
Hey everyone :) I decided to write down what the subjects of all my
messages mean. I've decided to stick to a format to make it easier
for everyone. :)
Subject Meaning
Fic: Title This is a message about a story
I found and liked very much.
**A five frog fic Similar to the 'Fic:Title' I haven't
decided if I am going to use this but
if I do, it means that I either just
found a five frog fic or upped the frog
rating on a fic I mentioned before.
Yay Update!! :) This is about an update on my site.
Title: Chapter # A chapter was just uploaded to a story *I* wrote
Who's got the stories? (Or some other cute thing like 'Ficcies
Ficcies Ficcies' or 'Has Anyone Noticed These?')
A large list of stories I just noticed, but
haven't really read yet. A chance to take a
risk, there might be some awesome fics in there,
or maybe some that are not so awesome.
That's it! I think that it would be best and less confusing if
everyone at least used the 'Fic:Title' if they wish to point out a
story they really liked. :) (That is, unless you are posting a reply
or have a large list of fics to share.)
Hope this cleared some things up,
Jan
I now have 63 members, woohooo! A chocolate frog for each of you.
Please take a short minute to introduce yourselves to the group! I'm
very curious as to who is here. :)
Please tell us your nickname, your favourite Snape and Harry mentor
relationship(s), favourite genres, hmm what else? What you have
contributed to the fan community (if you have) ;) and anything
else... favourite fics, favourite sites, your fanfiction.net profile,
whatever! :)
I'll go first.
Nickname: Jan
Fav relationship: (What a toughie!) I love all of them but I suppose
that I like Guardian fics best, ones where Snape has to look after
Harry (even if he does or doesn't want to!).
Fav Genres: Hurt/Comfort, angst, adventure. I think that humor is
great if it is actually done WELL and CLEVERLY.
Contributions: Webmistress of Potions and Snitches! Need I say
more? ;) I've also given almost 1500 signed reviews on Fanfiction.net
and I just started my first fanfiction, Muggleville. It's a little
bit cute and... different. I also have tons of ideas for other fics
that are much more usual, and I actually have some bits written out
already. i'm going to practice writing on Muggleville first before I
start those ones though.
Hm, what else? I'm a Ravenclaw and I LOVE music. Right now I am
listening to Rufus Wainwright. Here's my fanfiction.net profile
http://www.fanfiction.net/profile.php?userid=81393 if anyone wants to
check it out.
Now it's your turn. :)
Jan

relationship(s), favourite genres, hmm what else? What you have
contributed to the fan community (if you have) ;) and anything
else... favourite fics, favourite sites, your fanfiction.net profile,
whatever! :)
My nickname is Carrie.
My favorite Snape and Harry relationship? That's a tough one.
I guess I would say father/son, and guardian, especially, if it's
antagonist at first.
Favorite genres? Well, I guess I like angst, fluff, and humor if
it's done well. Drama is good too.
I haven't contributed much yet to this community, but I do review on a
regular basis at FFN, and I have written other story categories on
FFN. I am contemplating writing a Harry fic, but I'm American, so I
don't know if I could get the culture thing right. Seems like most
writers are British, and I don't want to get them mad at me. Hee
hee.
Gosh, favorite fics? I like DBZ and Star Wars and Harry
Potter. I really like Corban Slate's "Issue of Trust" and
Gillian M's story, "Snape's Vocation". Those are most
fav's right now. I do really like Jan's "Muggleville"
too. I'm really getting into now. I have bookmarked all kinds
of sites for DBZ and Star Wars and Harry Potter. I visit Jan's the
most.
My FFN profile is Carrie2sky. Like I said, check it out only if you
like DBZ or Star Wars. It's a small list, but it's
growing.
Fav Relationship: uh well...um I don't know baby fic (of course Snape takes care of Harry!)
Fav Genres: (grr) hum angst, I'll go with Jan on hurt/comfort
Contributed: sign a lot of reviews? (1,815) write...
I highly recommand Jan's story 'Muggleville'. (It is really good!)
Um well I'm a Gryffindor...music and reading on mainly my life so I'm usually at the computer (well unless its the school year than who knows this year...
Nickname: chips
Fav Relationship: Snape mentoring Harry fics and parental fics (used
to Sirius/Harry bonding)
Genre: angst
Contributions: writing fanfiction. I read it too, but not nearly
as much as other people that I've talked so I'm not sure if
that counts.
Whatever: I'm a Ravenclaw. I spend most of my time in the lab
doing science - like right now even. When I have free time, I
usually go outside. I enjoy nature photography. I'm on level 76
of Chip's Challenge. Sometimes I play (or write) while I'm waiting
for something serendipitous to happen... still waiting.
Profile: http://www.fanfiction.net/~chipschallenge for Harry/Snape
mentoring
http://www.fanfiction.net/~audiaa2 for Harry/Sirius bonding
Sirius was my favorite character from the time between the third
book and the fifth book. I'm sad about Sirius, and his death (and
really everything about Sirius in the 5th book) sort of turned me
off about writing Sirius fics, but now I think I'm far enough
removed to write about him again. I've got an idea for my next
fic, which is going to be a tumbleweed challenge response about
Sirius. I'm not sure who my favorite character is now. It's not
Snape, and I don't think it's Harry. It could be Harry and Snape
though.
Nickname: Tammy [--Mara]
Fav Relationship: ? I do read a lot of Harry &Severus
Genre: comfort/mentoring, {{shhh...slash}}
Contributions: I tend to read more than writing, however I have
started writing a little ficlet.
Whatever: I suppose I'd be Gryffindor, which would fit since I am a
a true Leo ;). Some of the fun sorting hats have placed me in
Ravenclaw --I do have a bit of a Hermione complex and my nose is
usually in some sort of book. One hat had the audacity to place me
in Hufflepuff...although, some of those characteristics are found in
Leos. During the day my eyes are glued to spreadsheets and tax forms
& other finance activities. Fun is movies, books, and occassional tv.

I generally favor Mentor!Snape fics over Severitus and Snarry
fics, but I admit I have read and liked examples of all three.
> Favourite genres,
Fanfics are about as varied as the people who write them aren't
they? Generally, I stay with Harry fics--there's just too many
to read them all.
I have always had a soft spot for fics that remove Harry from the
Dursleys and allow him to have a "normal" home life. Wounded!Harry,
Abused!Harry, and Sick!Harry can be touching as long as things
don't get out of hand. (Yes, I'm a romatic at heart, and generally
favor stories where everything is okay in the end.)
A subgenre that has to be handled carefully, but can be great fun
when done well is SuddenlyPowerful!Harry as evidenced in The
Awakening of a Magus by the dreamer, and "Harry Potter and the
Order of the Phoenix" by Ruskbyte. Humor is great as well.
Adult!Harry such as the one portrayed in Lori Summers' "Paradigm
of Uncetainty" series, and Caitlyn's "Lessons For Life" can be a
good read, as can LetsPsychoanalyzeTheHarryPotterCharacters fics
that authors like Dzeytoun write.
I don't usually like Tortured!Harry, Betrayed!Harry or
FalselyImprisoned!Harry fics, although there are some decent ones
out there. Dark!Harry, which includes (evil, addicted, depressed,
suicidal, self-mutilating, sadistically abused/raped, etc.) is
not generally my cup of tea, either. (I've run across those when
authors have neglected to put up their warnings, or when someone
recommends one to me.)
I don't claim to sail on any particular "ship" per se. Personally,
I've tended to favor Harry/Hermione since reading "The Paradigm of
Uncertainty" series. On the other hand, I have read several fics
that have Harry paired with other people, and have liked them just
fine.
The plot is the thing. If a writer can convince me what they're
doing is plausible and logical (for reasons a, b, and c) then I'm
content to follow their lead and let them tell their story.
> What you have contributed to the fan community (if you have) ;)
I have written a fic called "Realizations." It is an AU summer
before fifth year fic that was started before OOTP was released.

Nickname: Cali
Fav relationship: Severitus. Period. lol.
Fav Genres: Angst, Hurt/Comfort, and romance, preferably if it's
tragic.
Contributions: For Harry Potter? I read incessantly. I haven't
written anything for the fandom yet. I have written a one-shot for
the Abhorsen Trilogy by Garth Nix though, and I'm currently in the
planning stages of writing a lengthy prequel to it. I also wrote Star
Wars in the past, but those fics have been removed from the Net due
to their... umm... scarily underdevelopedness. I was too young to
write then, I believe.
Miscellaneous: I'm a Slytherin by nature, with a habit of adding an
unusual amount of prefixes and suffixes to everything I say. I'm also
a perpetual lurker, preferring to hide in the shadows of such Yahoo!
Groups. And I'm a huge fan of all music rock and classical, my
favorites in the areas being Linkin Park/Incubus/Three Day's Grace
and Rachmaninoff/Debussy/Scriabin, respectively. My FF.N profile is:
http://www.fanfiction.net/~calivianya
Nickname: Stephalopolis
Fav relationship: Hmm... gotta say Mentor!Snape and Harry. Although
romantically, it'd have to be Harry and Luna ;)
Fav Genres: Angst... Love the angst. Although, I'll read just about
anything (although I'm not a huge fan of romance fics). I like
novel type of stuff, where it's a mixture of a lot of genres.
Contributions: Nothing worthwile. I wrote this one drabble piece
which is so bad I've considered removing it from ff.net. I'm not
gonna mention the name of it here cause I don't want to put ya'll
through the pain of finding and reading it.... Mainly, I'm just an
avid reader of Fanfiction.
Miscellaneous: Ravenclaw here!! Although, if not a Ravenclaw, I
would definatly be a Slytherin. Hmm.. although the hat may put me
in Slytherin before Rav. Oh well. All I know is that it'd be one of
the two :D My FF.Net name is Stephalopolis, although there is
nothing in my written stories area, you can check out my
favorites... although my list is in a serious need of an update... I
mainly just bookmark my current favorites on my comp.
Fav Genres: Angst, Hurt/Comfort, I'll read just about anything, expect slash, which I find to be just wrong!
Contributions: For Harry Potter? I read just about anything about Harry Potter. I am just starting a short one-shot fic for harry potter. It's gonna be a Snape/Lily Angst. I also write poetry, though most is too personal to post on ff.net! lolMostly I read more than I write as poems are the only good thing I can write!
Miscellaneous: I'm a Ravenclaw, my nose being in a book and grades being the most important thing, beside family. If not ravencalw I'd be a slytherin. I love music! Love playing too, on my piano! I dunno what else to say. My FF.N profile is: http://www.fanfiction.net/profile.php?userid=403273

Hey Everyone. This is a fic post. :)
Learning As We Go
by Mystic DragonsFire
PG13 - WIP 22 chapters
Author Summary: Dumbeldor finds reason to believe that there is
something wrong with Harry, the summer after his fifth year.
Jan's notes: This is the type of fic that you can actually SEE the
writer progess and improve. The first few chapters are really rough,
but worth it to plow through and stick with the story. I love chapter
22! The writer seemed to flounder for awhile trying to decide exactly
what type of relationship Snape and Harry would have. As of now, I'd
have to say that it is a Guardian/Mentor like relationship and
despite uncertainty in some of the earlier chapters it feels quite
clearly slash free now. It could change though, I don't know but I
don't think it will. We'd have to ask the author.
There is some Dursley Abuse in the first chapters, but nothing over
the top. There are also a lot of other characters who pop up in the
fic, Draco, Hermione, Ron and some others actually stay with Harry
and Snape around the middle of the story. I'd love Mystic to rewrite
the first few chapters sometime, they definitely hurt the fic overall.
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/1522421/1/
Mystic, if you are in this group let us know so we can talk to you
about your fic! :)
Jan
Welcome and thank you for introducing yourselves! :) This is a post
just responding in chronological order. Scroll down to your name if
you have already introduced yourself; if not then what are you
waiting for? Say hello! :)
Carrie, thanks for being the first to respond. :) It looks like we
have a lot in common too. As for culture, I think that a lot of
writers are actually American. I am! I actually used to read a lot of
British literature as a kid and studied a lot of American/British
translation before starting my fic. I wanted my story to feel more
serious and realistic since the plot is sort of ridiculous and very
American. It also helped that I finally found someone British to look
it over and tell me when I was being silly, or sounded like I was
trying too hard. >.< To me, there don't seem to be many British
writers on Fanfiction.net. The best way to be able to tell is it they
ever mention "bangs", you know the fringe of hair over the forehead
usually covering Harry's scar? British writers will use the
word "fringe" while Americans use "bangs". Now how many fics can you
recall someone brushing Harry's *fringe* away from his forehead? Not
many. :) I do believe that there are some British canon fanfiction
archives around though, but I can't recall where exactly. In such
places, you will find fics by British writers and other clever people
who have managed to sound British. :)
starangel, I think reviews are a great way to contribute, and I think
that you actually have signed more reviews than me! I'm going to have
to go review every chapter of a couple more epics... Thanks for
mentioning my story. :} Widdle Harry fics rock! (Angie is like my
prompter. She listens to every little detail about my fic no matter
how many times I tell her! Which is much appreciated because I always
get inspired after chatting about every little thing. >.< Thanks!)
Welcome to the group Corby! I love 'An Issue Over Trust', which I
know you know but I just can't NOT take the oppurtunity and remind
you again. :P Everyone go read Corbin's fic! (Unless you don't like
control fics or forced feeding.)
Chippy! Yay a fellow Ravenclaw. I think she was being modest when she
introduced herself. Chips challenge is the writer of the AWESOME
Tailsman series! *sighs in blissful contentment* I love that
series. :) There are 5 installments and a sixth WIP. I'd be surprised
if anyone here hasn't at least heard about the series. 'Sides, I
think that Chips Challenge is a stupendus penname.
Hey Mara! Welcome to the group. :) You sound like someone who knows a
little about Divination or Astrology. I'll have to ask you if I ever
have a question about those subjects. ;) I liked your little story
about the 'audacity' of house sorting hats.
Wish! Yay! :) Thanks so much for the long comments about diferent
Harry fics. I feel the same about a lot of those things especially
that if a writer can convince me of a plot then I can believe in
their story. :) It's one of the more important things, I think, which
makes Snape and Harry comforting fics so difficult to always set up.
Catti, welcome to the group! Yeah, for some reason I always look out
for "Snape rescuing Harry from Dursley's" too.
Cali, I think it's funny that you call yourself a 'perpetual lurker'
yet you emerged from the murky depths and responded to my message. ;)
I laughed at your comment about scary underdevelopness and being too
young to write. Sadly, that is all too often true >.< although some
very talented people are great writers when they are young anyway.
(Yay!) Welcome to the group, and I hope that you won't lurk too
much. ;)
Stephalopolis, lol. Now a novel mixture of genres, that seems like a
really good anser. I hadn't even thought of it. Welcome to the group!
And go fix your favourites list so I can go dig in it and look for
new ones. hehe. :)
Ann, yay another Ravenclaw! Hello and welcome! Looks like we have
another reading addict, welcome to the club. ;) You said that you
liked Severitus best, do you mean the challenge fics? Or just "Snape
as Harry's father" fics? I think that Severitus fics have an appeal
all on their own, it's so fun to see how the characters would react
with such a startling change in their 'hate' relationship.
Sheya, now Crosovers is something that I don't usually dabble in.
It's so interesting to see someone who likes them best. I've always
had a hard time thinking about the rifts in the space time continuum
and all the inconsistencies two different fantasy/Scifi worlds would
create. I suppose that I jutst haven't read enough of them to really
judge. I'm curious as to what you like best about them and if you had
any good ones to rec. Welcome to the group! Nice quotes in your siggy
BTW. ^_^
Welcome welcome welcome!
I hope that I didn't miss anyone.
Now who else do we have in this group? >:)
