"During the battle to retake the areas east of the Curzon line, the Soviet Union captured some 10,000 Polish officers, who became prisoners of war. These prisoners were then held in camps in the disputed area and put to work road building, etc.
Two years later, on 22 June 1941, Nazi Germany attacked the Soviet Union by surprise. The Red Army was forced hurriedly to retreat and the Ukraine was taken over by the Germans. During this hurried retreat it was not possible to evacuate to the Soviet interior the Polish prisoners of war. The chief of camp no. 1, Major Vetoshnikov gave evidence that he had applied to the chief of traffic of the Smolensk section of the Western Railway to be provided with railway cars for the evacuation of the Polish prisoners but was told it was unlikely to be possible. Engineer Ivanov, who had been the Chief of Traffic in the region at the time, confirmed there had been no railway cars to spare. "Besides, " he said, "we could not send cars to the Gussino line, where the majority of the Polish prisoners were, since that line was already under fire". The result was that, following the Soviet retreat from the area, the Polish prisoners became prisoners of the Germans."

The Katyn Massacre:
the German Nazis did it

Presented by Ella Rule

The recent release of the film Katyn yet again perpetuated the lie that thousands of murders had been committed by the Red Army in the Katyn forest in the 1940s. The truth about the circumstances in Poland during this time is the exact opposite - the massacre was committed by the German Nazis and then, two years later, Goebbels sought to blame the Soviet Union. Goebbels’ lies are being peddled as the truth by all the anti-communists in the working-class movement - this meeting will help us counter their treacherous slanders.

British Journalist Johann Hari wrote an editorial for the New Statesman in October 2002, which describes a meeting of the society in a highly critical fashion. Hari wrote that a meeting of the society at which he attended consisted only "of around 30 people is primarily - as you might expect - elderly to the point of decrepitude" and that "for these people, Stalinism has become a habit they can't shake off" (although he noted there were a few young people). Hari compared the Stalin Society was comparable to the "Flat Earth Society, or Elvis fans who insist that the King is still alive." Finally, Hari critcizied what he views as the society's complete dismissal of any criticism of Stalin.[7]

Fury as Russia presents 'evidence' Poland sided with Nazis before war

Luke Harding in Moscow guardian.co.uk, Tuesday 1 September 2009 20.12 BST Article historyRussia today released secret documents from the archives of its foreign intelligence service that it said showed how Poland sided with the Nazis before the second world war and tried to destroy the Soviet Union.
Russia published 400 pages of documents gathered by undercover Soviet agents between 1935 and 1945, including telegrams, letters and reports intercepted from Polish missions abroad. Their release coincided with the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of war.
The declassified files from Russia's SVR foreign intelligence service allegedly show that Poland was plotting against the Soviet Union in the years preceding the war, which began when Hitler invaded western Poland on 1 September 1939.
Seventeen days later, the Soviet Union invaded eastern Poland. But according to the SVR, Poland was not simply a victim of Soviet aggression, but had been actively pursuing an anti-Soviet foreign policy from the mid-1930s. This included supporting anti-Soviet national groups in Ukraine, the Caucasus and central Asia.
Lev Sotskov, a retired KGB major general who compiled the documents, said there was evidence Poland signed a secret protocol with Germany in 1934. Citing a report written by an unidentified Soviet agent, he said Poland had agreed to remain neutral if Germany attacked the Soviet Union.
His claims provoked uproar at a press conference in Moscow, with Polish journalists jumping to their feet and denouncing the document as a fake. There were also heated exchanges over the role played by Jozef Beck, Poland's foreign minister in 1939, amid unsubstantiated claims he was a German agent.
The "protocol" goes much further than the 1934 non-aggression pact between Poland and Nazi Germany, under which both sides agreed not to attack each other. Sotskov denied that the release of the protocol was a provocative gesture. "We should be glad these things are coming into the open," he said.
Tonight, Polish historians said there was no evidence to suggest such a protocol ever existed. "This is absolute rubbish," said Mariusz Wolos, of Poland's Academy of Sciences. "Nothing similar has ever turned up in archives in Germany. Just because some agent wrote it doesn't mean it's true. There isn't much new here. The documents [released by the SVR] simply confirm what British, German and Russian historians already know." What would be interesting would be to find out the identities of the Soviet Union's agents in Poland. But they aren't telling us."

Asked why Russia had decided to release such contentious material now, he said: "It's part of the struggle for historical memory. Russia is keen to show that it isn't just Hitler and the Soviet Union who were responsible for the war."
The documents show that a group of Polish spies based in Paris took part in a secret operation called Prometheism to incite an uprising in Ukraine, Georgia and other Soviet territories. "We know all about that. It's already written about," Wolos said.
Other documents declassified include a letter from Hermann Göring following a visit to Warsaw in 1937. Göring passed on an assurance from Hitler that Germany wouldn't attack Poland, warning that the real danger to Poland came from Moscow – "not just from Bolshevism but from Russia".
The publication follows the release two weeks ago of documents on the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, signed by the Soviet Union and Germany on the eve of war. Sotskov today repeated his claim that the deal, under which Hitler and Stalin agreed to carve up eastern Europe, "gave the Red Army two years to prepare for the war".

If you caught a report on CTV News or Newsworld yesterday or today (Sept. 24, 25) about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's address to the United Nations, could you please tell me whether or not you heard CTV refer to Auschwitz as "the Polish camp"? It would be good to know the broadcast or time of day, with or without the "Polish camp" reference.

Thanks to a media forum, I was notified early this morning that at least two CTV websites carried a story saying "The blueprints to Auschwitz included details for gas chambers and other facilities at the Polish camp where three million Jews died during the Second World War."

I and at least one American member of the forum emailed CTV and in less than three hours it was amended to, "The blueprints to Auschwitz included details for gas chambers and other facilities at a Nazi-run camp in occupied Poland, where three million Jews died during the Second World War."

Since I personally did not see any television reports on the speech, I asked CTV whether the distortion had been broadcast but have not had a response from them.

If CTV did broadcast this abomination, it will require an on-air correction or I will consider pursuing this with the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council. You may be aware that the CBSC censured CTV recently for similar revisionism, which CTV management had vigorously defended. See

Please feel free to share this with anyone in Canada who listens to CTV news reports on air and is in a position to help.

Thanks.

Dear Danusiu, Krystyna and Group,

The Polish Media Issues (PMI) group played our part in getting both versions of
the article changed. It now reads a very acceptable "Nazi-run camp in occupied
Poland". They have not, last time I checked, put any of our complaints in the
comment section and no-one received a reply/apology. Still the article is
corrected which is the main thing.

Please feel free to contact me or post to this group any issues in the media
related to Poland/Poles. Anyone interested in joining the PMI see the link
http://www.supportpoland.org/ap/pmi.html for details. Due to personal
commitments the websites has not been updated for a month but I hope to work on
it over the weekend.

Lucyna,

Yes, there is a Frank Rynkiewicz in my friends lineage and they were from
krasnopol, Poland. Frank emigrated in the later 1800's I believe around 1876
or so and came with his father Felix and another brother named Walter William
Rynkiewicz. they settled in the Shenadoah, PA area and became rather prominent
business men in that area with some of their of spring becoming Lawyers,
Physicians, Bankers, etc.....

My firneds name is John Latzo and his mother was Agnes Mary Rynkiewicz who is a
direct descendant of these Rynkiewicz's from krasnopol. The other brother to
Felix Rynkiewicz was Jozef Rynkiewicz and John Latzo has hired the same private
researcher as I did whose name is Michal Marcinaik of PolGen in Warsaw who has
been doing extensive research for me with my Renkiewicz's from Mscichy, Wasosz,
Zebry and Radzilow, Poland. I do have both of our descendancy lists up on a web
site called www.geni.com

I also have another family web page where I have posted some pictures and
memorials from my Renkiewicz's in the NE part of Poland, like Mscichy, Wasosz,
Zebry and Radzilow. This is that lonk:

family please feel free to contact me at my private email above.

I got the following from a friend in Chicago.

John Guzlowski

Has anyone heard of the controversy over the naming of the new school?

In a largley polish neighborhood the parents of children were given a chance to
vote on the name of the new school with these choices:

Carlos "Caribe" Ruiz
Federico Garcia Lorca
Alejandro Tapia Y Rivera

The notifications were dated March 15th and the votes required to be turned in
by March 16th. None of these people have even a remote connection to this
community and it seams were selected solely because they are in some way
spanish. It is hard to believe that not one polish name could be found to put
on this list. Who selected these three? Is this a deliberate attempt to insult
the community? Anyone who remembers the old polish neighborhood in Wicker Park /
Bucktown remembers how thouroughly traces of polish history have been wiped out.
If you are interested in voicing your opinion please call the school
773-534-5250 or Alderman Reboyras 773-794-3095

Dear Members,

The lecture I was going to do but cancel due the sad events of 10th April, has a
new date. It will take place here in the UK at Sala Brydzowa,POSK, the Polish
community centre in Hammersmith, London. It will be at 5pm on Saturday 12th
June 2010 lasting about an hour. I hope to meet people after the event and
possible go for a drink and/or meal. If UK members could make it then that
would be great.

Contact me for further details.

Regards

Many thanks for your e-mail, Jan,

I'd have gladly come to your lecture at Sala Brydzowa, POSK, but we have
booked a break in Sopot at that time.

Please, therefore, kindly e-mail the content of your lecture.

Kind regards,
Witold "Wolyniak", north Wales.

Dear Witold,

The lecture is with friends to be proof read at present.  It will either be put on my website or hopefully maybe a Polish media organisation website here in the UK.  I will inform the group when it is available.

Enjoy your time in Sopot.  Never been but giving some thought to a trip to that area in the summer.

Regards

Post to Poland Speak Out Yahoo group

Dear Group,

Please note that a copy of my lecture on bias against Poles in the UK is available at http://supportpoland.org/.  In addition you can find other articles, book reviews and details of media issues.  Further there is contact details for the Polish media issues group which has just started our fifth year.  During this time we have helped alongside the Polish government, Polish organisation and individual members of the Polonia to deal with several hundred issues.  Typical this is incorrect references to the German extermination programme in occupied Poland during WWII such as "Polish concentration camps".

Dear Jan,

After reading your attachment, I remembered the conditions printed in my ID book, when I passed the age of sixteen.
Please read page two of my ID. It confirms that we, the alias children, have been treated as second class citizens, when it came to work.

On a personal note, when We moved to Bradford in 1955, I enquired about work as a draughtsman at ENGLISH Electric. there were vacancies, but I DID NOT GET the job because I did not have British Citizenship.

When I moved to Merseyside and started my own engineering business in 1966, I applied for the citizenship, for the convenience of travelling abroad.
When an officer-rep from the Home Office came to my works, she asked if I employed Englishmen?
My answer to her was that unfortunately there were no Polish men to employ, so I did have to employ Englishmen and Irishmen, the later of whom were the better workers.

From my information about the present Poles working in U.K., is that they are all highly valued
employees, whatever industry they work in.
In fact, when, we had a removal work done, I was asked if I knew of any Poles, who were looking for work.
This brings me to my conclusion that in the bad, bygone days, the conquered people used to be made to slave away for just keeps, very rarely anything more than the survival gruel. Nowadays, they have to get educated, preferably with degrees, so they can apply in writing with their CV (poor students) to get jobs.
We have to wait for the attitudes to change, for a better world, before things get closer to normal, live and let live, or love thy neighbors.
We live in hope.

Take care,
Witek.

Dear Witek and group,

Thank you for posting.  I wonder if it worth trying to collect together Polish experiences between 1939 and today here in the UK.  Is anyone aware of such a project?  If not, then would any of you support such a project if I started one?

Dear Group,

I have been asked to post this to see if anyone can help. Jim has finished a
65 page document in Polish and a 50 page document in English about his cousin
time in Stutthoff. This includes a cover page, short intro, NO index, a few
pictures of Stutthoff and the medal his cousin received. The medal has been
donated to a church.

The document has been sent to the Auschwitz museum and the Holocaust museum in
DC. Jim would like to spread it far and wide. If some money could be generated
that would be given to his cousin's widow but spreading it is more important.

How should Jim do this? Please feel free to post your thoughts here and I will
forward to Jim. Alternatively, Jim is available via jimpres1 at mac.com

Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions
