Welcome to PlaneTalk, the e-mail list for the Aircraft Noise Action Committee (ANAC). We are a group of neighbors from the Woodbourne neighborhood of Jamaica Plain, and surrounding areas, who are concerned about the impact of airplane noise on the quality of life in our neighborhood.
We live under the flight path of Runway 27, in use whenever the winds blow from the north, northwest, or west. The planes that fly over our neighborhood regularly exceed 75 decibels, and have reached as high as 95 decibels--an unhealthy and damaging volume. Currently 22,600 flights per year pass over our neighborhood when Runway 27 is in use, a number that Massport projects to increase to 71,200 (a 315% increase!) if proposed Runway 14/32 is built. This could result in jet traffic all day, seven days per week, year round.
You may use this site to post questions, discuss, or provide information about the noise problem; propose solutions, post meeting announcements; provide government contact information; share resources or results of research, etc. If you know of any friends and neighbors who share our concerns, please feel free to invite them to join our group.
ONE THING YOU CAN DO: Whenever the airplane noise disturbs you, call The Massport Noise Abatement Complaint Line at 617-561-3333 and file a noise complaint. It only takes 30-60 seconds to do this! The number is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Do not hesitate to file repeated complaints. The FAA tracks the total number of noise complaints from each neighborhood. Be sure to REQUEST A COPY of each complaint and keep them on file. The FAA is required by federal law to send you a copy of your complaint upon your request.
