This breaks my heart. We have extra bags of dry dog food if you need it. Are
additional charges of cruelty to animals being filed to this scumbag?

I'm in need of a plumber.

In looking over past messages on the Pine Lake groups, I found a post
about an in-town plumber named Al Johnson. I just called his number,
but it's not connected.

Does anyone have any suggestions for getting some light plumbing work done?

Also, am looking for an inexpensive vehicle, as my little truck just
died in Florida.

My little pickup decided to pull a die-in in Sarasota Florida. The
camshaft snapped and trashed the head.

It really wasn't worth fixing, so I left it and came back home in a
rental car with all the stuff I had lost under the seats over the years.

I just bought a little Miata, but I'm in the market for an
inexpensive second vehicle. A pickup would be great, but a sedan
would work, too.

Anyone have any ideas?

Is there still a supply of that chemical for drying things out? I was
gone for the fall and my autos grew a health crop of mold. Would like
to be able to leave a tub on the floorboard next time I'm away.

I guess I need a couple of quarts.

Unfortunately there was another break in on Wednesday night that wasn't
confirmed until Saturday morning, and I only learned of it yesterday. I had to
wait until I heard from the homeowners before I could post it on the list serve.

This was on Park Dr. near Grove. There was apparently 1 window left unlocked and
the person came in through there. The husband discovered one item and the money
missing on Thursday, from his wallet.( which was left on a table..) The Wife
discovered her purse had been ransacked on Saturday morning before coming to the
pancake breakfast. All the money was missing  and it was thought that no credit
cards were taken but,the homeowner discovered some charges on his mastercard and
debit card last night, so even though no credit cards were taken, apparently the
person wrote down the info. They wanted me to tell people who have been
burglarized to check accounts daily.

PLEASE JOIN US FOR AN EMERGENCY NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH MEETING ON WEDNESDAY
NIGHT(TOMORROW)    And remember to lock all doors and windows and PLEASE leave
your outside lights on at night and especially when you are away.

Does anyone have a summary of the break ins already prepared? Just a list of
dates of events would be great, or if you have already compiled a list with a
few more details such as time of day, whether anything was taken, etc., would be
very helpful. If not, I can try plowing through the postings here....

Apologies. I hit the wrong button (twice!) on this tiny keyboard....
I was trying to email Annette directly to say that sometimes Yahoo

We will be having a Neighborhood Watch meeting next week. The day is to be
determined after we ask the Mayor, Council and the Chief what day they can
attend. I will let you know as soon as I get a day and time.

HERE ARE SOME THINGS WE CAN DO TO HELP KEEP OURSELVES,OUR HOMES AND PROPERTY
SAFE:

PLEASE be vigilant with locking your doors and windows. Close your curtains and
or blinds after dark, so people can not see what is in your home. Also turn on
outside lights or add motion sensors and watch when ever you are outside not
just your property but your neighbors. Also cut back shrubery so they don't have
a place to hide.
Also when you are going out of town for the Holidays.... fill out a house watch
form and take it to City Hall so the Police will watch your home.

Thank you,

a window on the darker side of our house.

We called 911, and a Pine Lake officer responded quickly and took a look around
and agreed things did not look like natural causes.  It's good to have 24-hour
police service here within Pine Lake, and that they are so responsive.

We are in the Spruce/Dahlia area, the back side of the lake where it appears
that much of the burglaries are taking place.

We would like to request another neighborhood watch meeting as soon as possible
since these home invasions now seem to be occurring when people are home
sleeping, not just when they have gone out for a while.

We thank you for your service and dedication to the safety of our community..

Annette -
Having lived in a neighborhood in Charlotte, NC where they people made their
own path thru the woods to our neighborhood, I have wondered the same thing.
If nothing else it gives people who are up to no good a quick path out of
the neighborhood that they didn't have in the past.

Over the weekend we found a family of dogs living under our neighbor's deck at
the Hambrick end of Ridge Drive. There are two reddish "Setter" type adult dogs,
one who is obviously the mother of three ADORABLE puppies who look to be 8 to 10
weeks old. They appear very healthy and active. Both adult dogs have collars.
There are
also two pit bull mixes, one is a male calico stripe with a collar and one is
white female without a collar. Both look very young and are very playful.

We did call Dekalb Animal Control before we checked out the situation. They
arrived very quickly but told us they would not take the puppies without the
mother. They said they would be back today to set some kind of trap, which
doesn't sound very humane to us.

We have taken in one of the pit bull mixers because he is very friendly and
obviously someone's pet. But the other dogs are skiddish and we can't take them
all in anyway. We are giving them food and water for now.

Our main concern right now are the puppies. Does anyone know of a pet rescue? Is
anyone interested in adopting one of the puppies? Our neighbor says he doesn't
care if they stay under his deck but it's
going to get colder soon.

Thanks for any help!

Jeff

Laura,

Hi, you are dealing with 3 government entities and that
automatically triggers what is known as 'red tape'. There is a
Council meeting tonight; go, and plead your case. Re-writing the
Flood Plain Ordinance could take a while. Maybe the Council could
pass a resolution of intent to update the Ordinance and that might
satisfy the SBA? Keep us informed.

The argument of "may" versus "is" reminds me of Bill Clinton's what "is" means.
I have alread been told that since the requirement is not in the language of the
flood ordinance, the mayor cannot say that it is "required". There is a language
in the flood ordinance that says it doesn't have to be elevated for repair. That
is why I am asking that it be updated to be a requirement in these severe
circumstances. It would only affect those in the flood plain. It would only
affect houses that were severely damaged.

Hey, Tommy. Well, maybe someone can clear up your "may" and see if it is a
definite "is"...It seems like everytime those expensive houses on the california
coast crumble into the ocean the taxpayers get to build the "stars" houses back
on the same sinking sand. Don't seem right, somehow. Anyway, good to hear from
you. Whenever I post hoping someone in our goverment is listening, the silence
is deafening... so much for communication. Sometimes Dennis responds, however.

This seems so sensible I cannot imagine the Council refusing this request. As a
citizen. I support you 100%. I'm not sure how I can help you except to say, step
up, Pine Lake government and get this done....or offer some really really good
reasons why not.--Annette Cotter

I live at 4649 Willow Road just off Lakeshore at Spruce Drive. I have been
unable to move back into my home since the September flooding because of the
damages incurred during the storm and the heavy rains 3 days prior to the 100
year flood.

I have worked with City of Pine Lake officals, FEMA and SBA for the past two
months trying to get started with repairs to the house. I received enough grant
money through FEMA to cover remediation of mold and mildew. After that I was
directed to apply for a low interest SBA disaster loan, did that, and have been
awarded what they estimated I will need to be able to make repairs and replace
contents of the home.

However, before I can in good conscience use the government supported loan and
my own money, elevation of the house needs to be a consideration. It would be a
waste of funds appropriated to spend without consideration to the fact that the
house after a survey was found to be 3 feet below the flood certification level.

SBA is asking that Pine Lake "require" that the house be elevated in order for
them to consider that the elevation should be included in damages or at least
partially in their estimate.

Please help me to present to the council a request that it be written into our
flood ordinance or as a variance for my property that homes that sustain over
50% of the assessed value in damages that are in the flood plain should be
"required" to be elevated for the safety of the property in future floods and
for the health of the community.
