Andrew Boyd, the son of William Boyd and Dorothea Smith was born in
Peterhead on 4 March 1805.
On 15 June 1830 He married Isabella Robertson in Lonmay.
Their son William was baptized on 23 June 1831 at Peterhead.
Does anyone have a connection with this family?
Would anyone know if there are any other children to Andrew and
Isabella?
Cheers
Margaret

Dear Roy,
Please would it be possible for you to see if there is any mention
of Jane Lawrence who married William Boyd, shipmaster, on 2 July
1839.
If there is, then perhaps there may be some information too???!!!!
Hoping,
Margaret

I too am looking for farquhars, i have 2 lines going, william an archetect
(apparently) married ann bunett 1832

the other line I have going is Elizabeth Cowie married a robert Farquhar 1837
and one of their daughters (Elizabeth)married John Wilson 1858 who just to
complicate matters married the daughter (in new Zealand) of william Farquhar, b
C1836 2nd son of william Farquhar and Anne Burnett. It would appear that most
of william and anns children found their way to new zealand, and from what i can
gather one, thomas, appears to have gone to the states after the death of his
wife.

do you have any connection to this tangled web

There was something called the scotish historical society or
Something like that years ago and you could join for about 30
Canadian and they would look up registry entrys for your family name
for free as part of your registration fee . Youwere able to join as
an individual or a family and as a family cost more. Anyway my
question is does anyone know what I'm talking about and if so does it
still exist and what is it called ? Also if it does not still exist
is there anything else similar ? Basically what im looking for is a

In further research, I think the Alexander Davidson I am looking for may be
the one born 1790.He had a son William and I think another son Alexander and
I think that Alexander may be the one who came to Canada, and was the father
of George born 1870 in Woodstock,Ont.Does any of this tie in with your
findings?

I am also researching Davidsons from Peterhead. Do you have the death
details for your Alexander which maybe state his parent's names?
There were quite a few Alexanders and Georges around in the early 1800's.
The family I am researching is George Davidson b.1825 in Peterhead. His
father was William and his father was Alexander as far I am aware.

G'day all,
For the past few years I have been researching Peter McKenzie (born about 1826
in Peterhead) who married Ann Campbell (born 1833 Banffshire) in 1852 in
Peterhead. I have stopped and started this line many times because it was too
difficult. Although Peter McKenzie is not such a common name, I cannot find his
birth or parentage to date but I do know he emigrated to Australia about 1859
(his wife Ann arrived in Sept. 1861 with their 3 children and her papers said
her husband had been here 2 years). I have traces of him in Australia and then
he disappeared from the face of the earth. His eldest daughter married in 1875
and as she was only 20 years old, her mother had to sign for permission to marry
due to her father being out of the Colony at the time. I was able to find the
"right" Ann Campbell's birth when I got her emigration papers (plus lots of her
siblings). I have an Australian death certificate (1888) for the wrong Peter
McKenzie whose parents were Alexander McKenzie and
Christian Grant and I would be happy to pass it on to his family connections.
Regards
Gweneth

Hello Everyone,
I have been researching SKELTONs in Scotland for some
years now.

It took me a long time to find my long 'lost'
grandfather Christopher SKELTON born in Edinburgh and
I have followed his line back via Kinross to
Peterhead.

I have the monopoly on Christopher SKELTONs in
Scotland.

I am currently researching SKELTONs in Peterhead. My
6th great grandfather James SKELTON was born in Cruden
in 1718 to a George SKELTON. James lived in Peterhead
before going to Edinburgh with 2/6 in his pocket to
seek his fortune. He ended up owning the Green Inn in
Kinross.

Two of his nephews George (1753) and James (c.1750)
had families in Peterhead. They and their children
were merchants, landowners, ship builders and owners.

SKELTON names in Peterhead were George, James, John
Jane, Margaret and Mary.

Other names I am interested in as a result of
marriages
are NICOL, FORD ANDERSON, MUDIE, SMITH, SHIVES and
MINTO.

Coincidentally (maybe) a cousin James SKELTON born in
Kinross in 1799, son of JOHN SKELTON Sheriff Subst. of
Kinross-shire, was Sheriff Subst. of Aberdeenshire
between 1829 and 1870 and lived in Sandford Lodge
Peterhead.

I have found a SKELTON St in Peterhead and I am
currently trying to find out more about the SKELTONs
in Peterhead and if anyone knows of any books that may
assist me I would be happy to hear from you.

I would be happy to hear from you anyway.

Best regards,
Martin SKELTON, Stubbington,Hampshire

When a person's occupation is recorded as "scholar" it usually
indicates that he or she is a pupil at a school. I have not come
across any census listings of "scholars" aged more than about 16.

Don

Hello George,
Scholar on a census simply means that a child was attending school.

Hello Martin,
I am interested in Nicol/Nicoll from Caithnessshire - no connections to
Aberdeenshire that I know of yet; well, not in Scotland anyway. My Nicoll
married a Christian MILNE, when they both emigrated to Queensland,
Australia.
Regards, Barbara

relatives who may have emigrated to the US. Once registered with
this site, ( for free ) , you can search under your relatives names, and
if successful in finding them you can view the ship manifests which
go into great detail including in some instances the persons
parentage, complexion, height, eye colour, amount of money in their
pocket , where have they come from, their destination etc. etc.
It covers the period of c 1892 to 1924, and even if this is a little too
late you may find your relative made visits back to Scotland and
returned to via Ellis Island in this period. The site also has
illustrations of most of the ships for added historical flavour.

Using it I rediscovered the movements, and marriage of a great uncle
who emigrated to the US in 1906.

Good luck with this if it is of help.

Hello Barbara,
My research in Peterhead is at an early stage.

The only references to Nicol/Nicoll is via a death
entry for 1858 for a Mary Marshall daughter of James
Skelton, mother's maiden name Nicol.

In the will of James Skelton 1831 he mentions a Rev
Frances Nicoll of United colleges of St Salvador & St
Leonards in the city of St Andrews.
Regards...Martin.

For Martin Skelton :

Hi Martin,
I was interested in your message to the Group.

There are a couple of books by Alex.R.Buchan "Port of Peterhead" and "The
Peterhead Whaling Trade" which gives some information about the Skeltons
business interests in Peterhead. They had considerable interests as ship owners
and associated businesses. But these books will tell you very little about their
family history. I don't know of any books specifically about the Skelton family.

I have a couple of M.Is from Peterhead Old Cemetery :

"George Skelton, shipowner, died May 25th.1848 aged 59 years"

"George Skelton of Invernettie Lodge died on May 16th.1815 aged 62 years. Also
his relict, Jean Smith died on March 17th.1846 aged 89 years"

There was an Ann Skelton married to James Minto, shipmaster who died on the
whaler "Joseph Green" in the Davis Straits June 1844 aged 48 years and was
interred there. Their M.I. gives James Minto's mother as Jane Minto who died
Sept.16th.1841 aged 80 years & Ann Skelton's mother as Elisabeth Thom who died
on July 12th.1842 aged 86 years. It also states that Ann Skelton herself died on
May 22nd.1872 aged 76 years.
I don't know right now how Ann Skelton fits in with George Skelton (above)...you
might already know that yourself.

Hope this is of some interest to you.

                 Regards..............Alex Ritchie
