I am just starting to try to collect information about our Peterhead family.

My grandfather was Alexander Shivas Warrender (b. 1888 in Peterhead). He had a
younger brother James and an older sister Bessie (Elizabeth?). They all came to
British Columbia once they were grown.

The g grandparents were James Warrender and Katherine Shivas. I have sent for
my grandparents' marriage certificate and hope that it has more info. on James
and Katherine.

James, Katherine, Alex, and Bessie (Elizabeth?) and possibly James should be on
the 1891 census.

Is the Scotsorigins site a good place to look up the census?

Thank you for your help.

This is the information for Alexander Warrender from Scots Origins:

Living at 69 St. Peter St. in 1891

Alexander Warrender age 4 born in 1898, Peterhead
sister Lizzie Warrender age 10 mos.born in 1890 (abt), Peterhead

father James Warrender born in Peterhead (about 1863 or 1864)
mother Catherine S. born in Ellon (about 1862)

I cannot find a marriage record for James Warrender and Catherine
S. ? (I thought her maiden name was Shivas, but Shivas may have been
her second name.) Can anyone help?

grandfather
James Warrender (b. Fraserburgh, 1824 or 1825)
   died in Peterhead 1898
married in Peterhead 21 August 1845 to
Jane (b. Fraserburgh, 1826 or 1827).

I think Jane's last name was Dugal because the marriage info from
Peterhead shows a marriage of James and Jane Dugal, but I cannot find
anything about Jane Dugal)

The 1881 census shows the family living at 16 North St:
James Warrender Head age 56
Jane Warrender Wife 54
James Warrender son 18 (the James Warrender who is father of
Alexander and Lizzie I think)
Catherine Warrender dau 20
Mary Warrender dau 16
Peter Warrender son 11
John Warrender son 13 (the 1901 census shows a John Warrender family
living at 57 St. Peter St.in Peterhead with wife Jane and children:
Jeannie, James, Georgina, Alice, Catherine and Jane Walker, the
mother in law.)

I cannot find James age 38 and Catherine age 39(with Alexander 14,
Lizzie 10 and James, a younger brother) in the 1901 census for
Peterhead.
They should have still been there in 1901. Could I be overlooking
something?

Thank you for the help.

Do you have anything about Elizabeth Williamson and her husband James
Reid ? they are my 3xgt grandparents, James was a farmer according to
their sons death certificate in 1881(both parents deceased at the
time)(James-the son-in 1861 cencus 'Place where born' said Peterhead
and in the 1871 cencus it said Ellon, but they and all of their
children lived and died in Peterhead- except the two children
mentioned below)
Their son James married Elizabeth Cooper in 1841 and had children as
follows:-

Hello,
Since my last posting I have found a relative in Aberdeen and one in
the U.S. I am now trying to find information about:

Robert Warrender (born in the late 1700's? perhaps b.1797 d. 1868)
and his wife, Eliza(beth) Walls or Wells (perhaps b.1794 d.1857).
They were both, I think, born in Peterhead. Somehow I would like to
see if they are the parents of James Warrender (b.1825? d.1898).

If anyone out there has the 1851 or an earlier census, and time to
look over it, will you please tell me if they are there. They did
live in Peterhead.

Thank you.

The IGI does not have deaths recorded. You will also not find a death

Hi Del,

I'm here! I am sorry that I have not emailed you yet. Mike Ritchie
gave me your email address a while ago. He is doing so well with the
family history - I don't think there is anything I would know that he
hasn't already told you.

My great grandmother was Mary Morrice (born 5 March 1874). Mary's son
William Morrice emigrated to New Zealand with a large group of cousins
and aunts and uncles. My mother grew up in New Plymouth NZ never
knowing that she had so many relatives in NZ.

Are you descended from Elizabeth Morrice, Mary's sister?

Thank you, Wade, for your time.

Your research is very helpful. I think this is the Robert Warrender I am
looking for. Apparently the Warrenders had a farm at Longside as well as homes
in Peterhead so some members stayed at the farm and some in town working as
coopers and fishcurers.

I will keep searching for James (b.1825 d.1898) to be certain that he truly is
the son of the above Robert and Eliza.

Thanks again,

Cindy

Dear Lyn,

I have not found a Benzie yet, but I have just begun to try to find the
relatives. If I find a Benzie I'll let you know.

Dear Del,

I'm looking for information about Catherine Shivas, born in Ellon about 1864?.
She married James Warrender and they lived in Peterhead for the 1891 census and
moved to Canada in 1912.

I don't know if she is related to photographer, but they did leave some
interesting photographs.

Hi Kate

I have a James Shivas who was the Photographer and had a photographic studio
He married Mary Dallas and they did have a daughter Kate, but she was born
1871 in Peterhead. Don't know if it is the same one or not.

Kind Regards
Del
