Alex and Fiona,

I was ecstatic when I read your e-mails this morning. This information has
been a long time in coming and I can't tell you how much I appreciate your
help as I had pretty much exhausted all avenues of research available on the
Internet. My Birnie Tree can now move forward in a positive direction.

Thanks also to Betty for putting me straight as who Alexander's parents were
not ! There certainly is a group of helpful and very knowledgeable people on
this list.

With appreciation,

Linda Adam

Alex

I was at GRO yesterday, and had so little success with my family that I
turned to your Alexander Birnie, whom I'd noted down - and struck gold as
the
1855 death records have lots of extras!

Alexander Birnie, joiner;age 77; born Peterhead lived 77 years in district;
parents Alexander Birnie joiner (d), Margaret Findlater (d) ; married to
Fanny Henry; Children Catherine aet. 12 1823 (I assume this means she died
age 12 in 1823), Margaret aet. 41 1858, Alexander 39, Fanny 36, Jean 34, May

33; Died January 15th 1855, Longate; Bronchitis 8 days; Buried Churchyard
of
Peterhead; Informant Alexander Birnie, son.

Hope this helps.

Fiona

I am wondering if anyone can tell me more about Catherine MCKAY. Her marriage
to Stephen BEVERIDGE was on Oct 26, 1881 in Peterhead . Stephen BEVERIDGE born
about 1851 in Newhills. Catherine MCKAY born 1860 . Would anyone be able to tell
me if Catherine MCKAY was born in Peterhead? Her parents are Donald MCKAY and
mother's name is Betsy ? I don't know her maiden name. Any help would be
appreciated.

Are you aware of Scots Origins (the Scottish family history) site at
http://beta2.scotsorigins.com/ which include details of the 1881, 1891 and
1901 census details, as well as the index to births and marriages up to 1901
and deaths up to 1925. Although the site costs £6 per 24 hours (or 30
credits) but is extremely useful. The 1881 census details were produced by
the Church of Latter Day Saints (The Mormons) and should be available in
major libraries and record offices.

Hope this helps.

Hi Maureen
I can answer this for you. It is a street named Love Lane. It consists of
a few blocks of flats and a couple of small cottages. Do you know which
number house in Love Lane the marriage took place.
I live in Peterhead and may be able to take a photo of the place for you if
interested.

I do not have any other information on him. My grandmother was a

For Donna;

I checked the 1881 Census for Cruden and located James Birnie, scholar, age
11, born Strichen. Parents; William Birnie and Eleanore. If your grandfather
was born in 1900 this may be his father. You didn't mention your grandfather
s given name. That may help to pinpoint the father.

The Elspet Dinnes on my list was born in Old Deer, June
24,1781.Her father was John Dinnes born Crimmond, Jan. 27,1762,
married to Ann Buchan. John's father was Charles Dinnes. I have no
further information on any other Dinnes family members.

David
In the 1841 Peterhead Census the David Wallace on my list, aged
60, is shown as not born in Aberdeenshire. I am checking for his
birth at present. Another Wallace in my records, another branch, is
my GGGGgrandmother Christian born 1777c in Peterhead. The Janet
Cardno that I have was born Dec.3,1805 in St.Fergus. Her father John
Cardno was married to the above Christian.

Elizabeth:

I do not see any connection however I do not have any info on the siblings
(if any) of George Booth Sutherland. I have corresponded with Wade Buchan
previously and supplied him with a picture of school children which he has
posted to his site.

Hi everyone,

Does anyone have any information on the parents of Mary Massie CARDNO, born
c 1829 Crimond, died 1919; they are shown to be John CARDNO, a farm
labourer and Mary WATSON on their daughter Mary's death certificate. Were
there any other children?

John

Hello Jim,

Jane Ritchie is my g.g. grandmother who had a daughter, Jane Peter, before
she married James Brechin.

Hello Marjorie,
It would appear that we have the same GGgrandmother. I have a
copy of her birth, Nov.3,1824 in Rathen and family information from
the 1841,51,71,81 and 91 censuses. Indeed Jean Peter appears in the
1851 census with Jean Ritchie. Is this information of any use to you.

Great to hear from you,
                        Jim Adams.
