What about Sept. 13, the 2nd Saturday? I might be able to make that
one. And I definitely plan to be at KOP on the 4th to be one of the
300 ("tonight, we dine on LEGO!"). I don't think I can make
BrickShow, although I'd love to. :-(

Howdy all, KC the Snail Lady here. My teen son and I just got back from BrickFest where we had an awesome time. We live in middle Bucks County, above Phila, between Doylestown and Lansdale. Would love to meet any other AFOLs in this area.  KC

Hello,

Do you mean BrickFair? There hasn't been a Brickfest in 2 years but I
know that the names tend to get confusing.

We welcome all AFOLs over 18 to our meetings. In fact our next meeting
will probably Sept 13 or the 20th. (if meetings continue to grow we'll
need to find a bigger place)

PennLUG is a general Lego® club. We welcome all adult builders that
can "play well" with others, regardless of what themes they prefer. It
looks like a few things are coming up soon. Two of us just got back
from BrickShow at the Bellaire Brick Museum in Ohio so we're busy
getting that all digested

how was BrickShow? Sorry I couldn't make it. :-(

Brickshow went great, attendance was down, but Dan was contending

Does it matter for you what date the meeting is?

Now that I've had a decent nights sleep...........

Mike Tighe and I left on Thursday night and arrived at the museum
about 11:30/12 am We got to bed about 4 am after checking out the
new improved museum.

FRIDAY we got up at the crack of noon (yeah we kinda overslept) and
got over to the museum. Mike Tighe went to wrk filling out a
database for the world records winners/ and contests while you're
truly got out the mower and weedwhacker. Larry the guy who does
maintenance was swamped with other things so I took care of that for
him. The rest of the day was spent running in cirlces, getting
stuff ready, figuring out what's going on, cleaning out the castle
room. I found a paintbrush that was used for dusting and worked on
cleaning off some of the main models in the halls cause they were
getting pretty dusty from all the moving. Mike Tighe continued more
database stuff! Dan ordered a bunch of pizza and drinks. We dug in
and then got back to wrok. Mike Tighe was stillllllll doing
database stuff. I gave a hand where I could. Sleep came at around
1 am I think.

SATURDAY- The last minute flail to get stuff done and then the
grand opening. They had a room full of brick for kids to build
castles to go in the world record room. The build room was
deffinately the most poplular. After the end of the show we headed
out for supper and discussed lego politics. Dan had some
fascinating stories about how he got some of the models.

Afterwards in the wee hours of the morning a bunch of uss trapsed
over to the other school where Dan has the Bricklink store. We
oohed and ahhhed, made some deals, rooted, ahhed some more,,and got
our AFOL treat. The mismaked/filled bionicle sets. Somehow a bunch
of bionicle were filled with a shooter with no ammo and a bunch of
dark blue bricks and then mis packaged, and made it out of the
factory.

SUNDAY The show saw more people (i think) I sepnt some time with
Larry discussing improvements to the museum. Mike worked on
datebase stuff again. We took lots of pictures and chatted with
Breanna Sledge the famed bionicle builder and Errickson bricks as
well. COLTC was there Sat/Sun. I'm sure there was more to
everyting, but I'm still processing it myself.

I took 258 pictures. Some I posted in the group. The rest I'll
show at next meeting along with other goodies.

well, it seems there is a lego club in Great Falls MT.  It's open to all ages and builders of all levels.  They meet twice a month and have been around 7 years.

http://www.kfbb.com/news/local/27937629.html

I got the number to the place they meet at.  Gonna contact them.  Why not?

greetings to all pennluggers old and new (and the new ones who may be
old as well:))

life as a mostly stay at home dad is going wonderfully. sam is
officially four months old as of sunday and is already weighing in at
18 pounds. we found him an awesome lego racers jogging suit at a
consighnment sale last week. also rearranged my collection to make more
room for him in 'his room' . i hope he likes lego or he'll be sleeping
in the hallway.

how about holding our september meeting at the kop foodcourt and trek
over to the store after our usual brickpolitics or during?

i plan on schlepping up on the 18th with my son to get a sense of the
store and do a little shopping. i am way overdue for new brick! plus
the hike is much shorter than lancaster and this location could provide
more brick to for the gas buck:) i also have reserves the weekend of
the grand opening so i won't be able to do that. country before hobby i
guess, ah the sacrifices of our men and women in uniform. military or
college discounts available at the new store? when i was shopping in
downtown disney, they placed little .50 off coupons for reusing pab
cups. are these good for the new store also?

i've actually started building again, trying to stay away from another
dark age. with that, does anyone have one of these metal technic hooks?

http://guide.lugnet.com/partsref/search.cgi?q=hook

i just need one. they go for $2 bucks on bricklink but i'm trying to
save my expenses for the new store and would rather buy gas to get
there than pay shipping on one piece.

also, pampers has a program where you enter codes on their products in
exhange for gift cards, of which, a $10 lego gift card is an option:)

take care and hope to see you all soon!

put him in the hallway regardless, those cribs take up too much valuable lego storage space ;)

As much as I would say the 13th so David could make it, the 20th sounds like a good idea.  Introduce ourselves to the manager, get a feel of what's going on, the work on our regular meeting and plans for world brick domination.  Speaking of which have I told you that in the late sixties I developed a sophisticated heat beam which I called a "laaazzzer"..

the coupon thing is a good question to ask.  With the budget the military has you'd think they could spot you  a $20 for brick:D

You know, meeting at KoP on the 20th sounds like a lot more fun for
the rest of you. I don't think I'll be able to make it, but PLEASE
keep me posted on plans for the grand opening in October. I'm hoping
to make at least one day (the exclusive Liberty Bell set day);
looking at my calendar now it looks like the Grand Opening is a
weekend, so I might be able to make two days and help build some
stuff. Anyway, count me in for that, even if I never come to any
meetings. ;-)

Well nothing is stopping you guys from getting together on the 13th. Who says we need only one monthly meeting. We're PennLUG dang it! We don't follow the rules! I wouldn't be able to make it but I why not go for it?

As for the 20th, I'm there. Good opportunity to scope out the store, hopefully talk with Tracie about the grand opening, and meet up with Chris.

By the way Chris. I have that hook you're looking for. You make it to the store and I'll get it to you.

Do we have a time?

I'll pass along the info to the DelVaLUG guys. They may want to join in the fun.

Well, don't feel too bad. It looks like the 20th might be clearing
up a bit for me, so there is a possibility that I could make a
meeting on that date. I need a flux capacitor....

The E-town Community center has classes of all different kinds.
Some for continued education, some for crafts/ hobby stuff. I've
thought of doing a Lego class to share the history of the company,
share different building tecniques, the AFOL community, events,
etc.

would anyone be interested in something like this to participate
in? Any suggestions or avalability of different items to show
wether pictures or physical brick/MOCs would be great.

Most of thier classes run 3 nights, 1 a week. That affords us a lot
of time if we chose to use it. It could be done in one night but
that might be a lot to stuff in the time allowed. I was thinking of
a history lesson theme one night, building techniques another, AFOL
and events stuff another.

The classes usually have a charge to them, although I dunno how they
work that yet. I was more interested in just having the class.
They require a sort of class outline which I have been working on.
They also require an outline of why you (the presenter) would be
qualified to give the class. I doubt they'd have any arguments with
our experience in the hobby.

I thought it might be a fun way to make people aware of us and the
hobby at large.

anyone up for this?

I may be interested. :-?

I'll differ the LEGO history to you and your superior knowledge. However I may have some stuff that could help out. Like this (MIB) and this (though I need to rebuild it). I have a ton of 9v stuff, some Technic sets as well as a few nifty books.

Now for the building techniques, I've done a little bit of that . I've even had some experience putting together a Power Point  presentation.

'Ello all,
Sorry I haven't been too active on the boards these days. I'm still
around though, which is why I've decided I'd better be productive and
contribute something soon. lol

Around July or so, I mentioned about possibly looking into seeing if
the Hershey Museum might be interested in some sort of permanent Lego
display related to the history of the town. Well, I finally did send
Joe Meno a message telling him what we were thinking about doing and
asking him for various information related to the Millyard project and
who I might be able to ask about what all was involved with it. My
problem in seeking information in the beginning was that I wanted to
be able to gather as much info. together as quickly as possible, but
I'm going to have to hunker down and just take it little by little.
And since we're a LUG, if anybody wants me to forward to them any
responses I get regarding such information just let me know and shoot
me your e-mail address. If anybody else wants to dig up what they can
to help out, go for it. The more, the merrier.

I also have some more information regarding the Hershey Museum that
might possibly be of interest. The first of which is that the museum
will have an area for rotating exhibits. Perhaps that would be
something worth looking into in the future? Maybe proposing a winter
time train layout display?

Also, check this out
(http://www.hersheystory.org/exhibits/special-exhibit.aspx):
"The inaugural display in our new Special Exhibit Gallery will be a
juried art show featuring works by local artists. The theme of the
show is "Art + Inspiration." Artists are asked to tell a story that
has inspired them through their art work. Works in painting,
photography, sculpture and craft will be accepted for both junior and
adult categories. The exhibit, free to the public, is open May 23 -
November 8, 2009.

The Hershey Story invites artists to share their personal stories of
inspiration by submitting their work. Entry forms will be available on
our website, so please check back soon."

Now, I'm not sure where they'd draw the line as far as "local" is
concerned, but I'm thinking about entering my trolley, as I was
inspired to make it. I figured I'd throw that out there if anyone
else might be interested, even though some of our members would be
considered more "local" than others. Who knows...I might not even
count because I live in Palmyra. lol

Also, I read that a Lego store is opening in King of Prussia, which
I'm excited about!!! I know that you guys are planning on meeting up
there, but I don't think I'd be able to make it. I would, however, be
very interested in tagging along with somebody on Saturday Oct. 4th
for the official grand opening weekend.

And a message for Cale...I know that you're still interested in doing
Model Railroading Days at the PRR museum. While I wouldn't be able to
physically participate, I'd be happy to loan some of my models to you.
I could give you some of my less fragile stuff like my split level
homes, my city antique shop, maybe my church, and some of my vehicles.
I don't think you want to deal with the battlefield. lol I figured
if I get to go to the grand opening of the new Lego store I might be
able to drop them off, either with you or Mike Gibney or Mike Tighe.
If you're interested, let me know.

And I finally got around to posting pictures of my battlefield:

Well, that's all for now I guess.

In all seriousness I would think your Hershey Transit Trolley should be exhibited.  It's very well done, fits thier criteria of "local inspired" blah blah blah.  If all else fails just use my standard response for anything that remotely resembles nothing and want to call it "art"  I just tell them "   I'm trying to convey mans struggle in society to remain an individual in a sea of conformity"

HI
My son and I should be able to make this. We are about 45 minutes or so from K of P Mall, in middle Bucks County, near Doylestown, Lansdale, etc. Where exactly are you planning on meeting? I have a large car, and can seat 2 or 3 people in the back seat.

Hello again

KC the Snail again. Since my son is only 14, and I have been told that because of this he will not be welcome at your meeting, I don't know whether we will come to the store or not next weekend. Maybe I will come alone, but I hate to do that. If we do come, I hope to meet some of you there in the store, and I guess he just won't come to the foodcourt for your actual meeting. If anyone would like to get together with us either before or after the meeting, please let me know. Also, if anyone else has a Lego loving teen boy, please contact me personally. He enjoys castle and Star Wars Legos, as well as most video games. We WILL be at the Grand Opening of the store in October. KC

I assume that means all those west of Elizabethtown, right? Seems
kind of silly for those east-enders to meet at your place instead of
at the mall.... ;-) I may drive separately, as I have a couple
college friends in the Philly area that I'd like to see while I'm
there. I'll try to have a couple little things (aka "whatever I'm
working on that's not the UCS Falcon") to show off at the meeting.
