The Higher Education Peer Assistance Group will discuss peer assistance programs, important peer issues, and program development specifically at higher educational institutions. We know peer educators will find this listserv useful and beneficial. Peer assistants in higher education can be found in a myriad of student-to-student helping positions: first year experience classes, academic tutorial support, mentoring, academic advisement, health and wellness support, and much more.
Peer assistance is based on the fact that individuals seek out their peers when they are experiencing some issue or concern. Peers are trained and provide important support to the many services offered students in higher education. Peer leaders come by many names: peer assistants, peer associates, peer counselors, peer helpers, peer mentors, peer tutors, peer advisor, etc. Listserv members are encouraged to share information on their peer programs, tips for success, problem areas, training ideas, funding support for peer programs, gaining support for your peer programs, etc.
