In a 1571 Queen Elizabeth passed a law prohibiting paternosters and Agnus dei's. I don't know which act or law it was but we could search for it! Cyndi ...

... I'd agree with that, but the wax thing is so common -- and has been regarded as having such extraordinary value -- that that's simply what I thought of
