Last i checked, there is a local Chabad, and a kosher restaurant that has a
shul. There was also a hotel that had some sort of kosher and shul facilities,
but I'm not sure it is still around (might have been attached to another
Chabad).

Many people wonder what is the difference between an 11-line, 21-line or a
28-line Megillas Esther. Megillas Esther is unique among the megillos in
that it has many of the same laws as a Sefer Torah. With regard to the
number of lines, then, Megillas Esther should really have 42 lines like a
Sefer Torah.

While halachically preferable, some people find holding a 20" tall megillah
to be a little unwieldy and prefer the shorter 28- or 21-line version. The
explanation for these sizes appears to be a practical/economic issue
regarding the number of sheets of klaf that can be cut out of the standard
skins. They are tall enough to allow the megillah to be "HaMelech" without
wrecking havoc on the layout (more next month) although adding proper
borders (see last month) to a 28-line megillah generally makes the klaf too
tall to cut two pieces from one skin, doubling the material cost of the
megillah.

The 11-line Megillas Esther is the size preferred by Maran HaRav Elyashiv,
shlita, above all other considerations. It is commonly referred to as a
GR"A megillah, having been created to avoid the GR"A's objection to writing
the 11 lines of Aseres Bnei Haman in large letters so as to fill the whole
column, as is the minhag. The GR"A himself appears to have used a 42-liner
with Aseres Bnei Haman occupying the last 11 lines at the bottom. This size
has the disadvantage that proper borders force a larger size font and more
klaf, driving just the material cost of such a "perfect" megillah to around
$1000, although 11-line megillos with "normal" borders can be purchased at a
more reasonable cost.

HaRav Dovid Morgenstern, shlita, declined to offer any explanation for HaRav
Elyashiv's insistence on 11 lines even with b'dieved borders rather than 42
lines with mehudar borders. HaRav Shamai Gross, shlita, admitted that he
does not understand the ruling of HaRav Elyashiv. My rav, HaRav Avraham
Baruch Zachariash, told me that if a Megillas Esther is not going to have 42
lines, 11 lines is the next preference before 21 or 28.

Gershom Tave

*PRESS RELEASE*

Over 110 people joined Yeshiva Passaic Torah Institute (PTI) under the
leadership of Rabbi Shlomo Singer Shlita and Rabbi Baruch Bodenheim Shlita
this past Motzei Shabbos, in our continuation of the Shalom Bayis Shiurim
for Men. Part three of the three part series will be IY"H this coming
Motzei Shabbos November 21 at Yeshiva M'Kor Baruch (The Yeshiva K'Tana Boys

Shlita. Harav Jung is the Dean of Bais Rochel High School in Monsey and one
of the most popular lecturers in our own NEVE-PTI for women. At this Shiur
Harav Jung stressed that minimizing anger in the home, builds harmony in the

and calm in his/her home, you can overcome almost all obstacles. These
Shiurim have been given with the Haskama of Hagaon HaRav Shmuel Kamenetzky
